Hilarious that the Cowboys keep throwing money at the offense

I always laugh at posters who say they're going to "skip the season" or "I'm done with this team if "X" happens". Here's a few hints to those that feel the need to notify the board that they no longer have a use for the team:
1. It's football. It's really not that serious.
2. If you're going to leave, just leave. In all honesty there's not a single person on this board (or the rest of the universe, really) that gives two ****s.
3. No one is going to beg you to stay. So your pathetic public announcement and cry for attention is a waste of your (and everyone else') time.
4. If you want a eulogy of your fan hood. Sit down, grab a pen, write it out, and promptly flush it down the toilet. It's useless anywhere else on the planet.

This was so good... I think you caused it to move.

It was the O that inevitably sunk the Cowboys in 2017. The term "(insert name) friendly" scares the hell out of me for the prospects of winning anything.

Agreed. The only "friendly" any aspect of the team needs to be is "win friendly". When you tailor any aspect of a team around one player, you're ****ed when that player either goes down, retires, or....ahem........ gets pushed out the door.

More like sad.

It's because this franchise is run as a fan would run it. Most fans think passing and O and CB's win super bowls. And that's how this franchise is run.

this franchise top to bottom does not take defense seriously. even the fanbase is addicted to offense. it's sickening man. but with Garrett at the helm and Linehan gaining more power and a franchise/fanbase fascinated by stars, it's not surprising. i just wish marinelli would speak up on his unit's behalf. he seems content coaching just to coach not coaching to win anymore. constantly taking scraps in free agency and the draft, geez man speak up and defend yourself. they are shifting all of these resources to make garrett look good. can't wait till his privileged *** is gone.
that so true...Really you know this , its ridiculous to think that, it ebb's and flows where the moneys spent to where the contracts come up at the time players start becoming stars..some franchises lean one way or another but overall the NFL and Fans are more attracted to high scoring games..

However they overhauled the entire DBs last year through the draft, they brought back Lawerence at a heavy price and made sue Irving stays or we get great compensation for him..paid bit much for Crawford and even though it was a fail the Fas last off-season were on the defense..

most of the offensive money now is on the line but thats where our new identity lies..

They won 13 in 2016 and would have won 14 if they played the starters for the final game.

The primary difference in 2016 and 2017 was the offense.

Notice how you didn't answer my question. 2016 is irrelevant. Who did they beat in 2017 that makes you think this team can compete with top tier teams with the few moves they've made in free agency on top of the players they have lost?

I'll answer it for you.

The best team they beat were the 10-7 Chiefs, who themselves barely made the playoffs and are in an extremely weak division.

In reality it was the only team above .500 that we defeated (I'm not going to count the Eagles).

This team is far from good, let alone great.

Not spending wisely? Because they're not committing money where you want them to? DB's have dominated recent drafts and our defensive line is the second highest paid position group. They're probably about to add 2-3 more (at least) defenders in the draft. Come on, man.

Again, as you repeat the same fallacy.

Most position groups don't have 4 starters.

Not spending wisely because they're not committing money where I want? Or because they don't have any success to point to?

And all that could have been said after 2015 and going into 2016. The league is so year to year, there's no reason that we should be considered far off if we are able to address the weak spots from last year.

The offense was fine...we missed Zeke...if not for that farce,we win 2 more games and go 11-5. You would think we went 4-12.

Even if this team makes the playoffs, they aren't beating playoff caliber teams, not consistently.

They aren't addressing the weak spots from the previous year. While the Eagles see their window and are maximizing their opportunities, we're largely standing pat with the status quo.

So what your also saying is we won 9 in 2017 but would have won 8 had the Eagles played their starters for the final game? But i do agree our offence went backwards in 2017

Expensive doesn't equal good.......how many quarters did we go at one point without a TD?......even with Super Dez?

That's my point...

Not shifting around the costs on offense, getting rid of Bryant and Witten's terrible contracts and putting Dak behind the wheel has all handicapped this offense.

JMO, but we upgraded the o-line with the signing of Fleming and we added some speed to the WR core. LB is a huge need and hasn't been addressed yet, but there are literally 4 LBs (Edmunds, Smith, Evans and Vander Esch) that could come in and be an upgrade on day 1. Several DTs that can make an impact as well. Not sure if we get an upgrade at safety or not, but it's very possible we could get a starting LB and S in rounds 1 and 2, and a rotational 1 Tech in round 3.

Offseason just isn't done yet

Do you think the circumstances of 2015 dictate what 2016 would look like?

We didn't even have a starting QB for most of the year.

But the first big mistake this team made was switching from Romo to Prescott so early. Romo is still on the books, but we're not getting the caliber of QB play we need for the amount we're paying for QBs. Not getting anything out of Romo was also a mistake.

We now have an overpriced offense that is not high powered... think about that...

Is Fleming a significant upgrade? Or is he maintaining the status quo? He was only a part time starter with the Patriots. I don't know much about him to be honest, but I doubt he is a huge improvement over Jonathan Cooper. The question now is whether or not he is a starter or if he is a replacement for Chaz Green's intended position.

What is your WR depth chart?

This team still needs more edge rushers. We shouldn't have gone into the draft needed a linebacker or safety.

Which points out another problem: Keeping players until they're completely used up so we get nothing out of them. By the time we released Romo, his value was next to nothing.

I seriously doubt his value was next to nothing. Look around the league and how mediocre QBs are getting pay days, but I do agree with your premise.

Should be an upgrade at backup at the very least, so yes, a Green replacement. Not sure anyone knows exactly what we're getting there, aside from the fact that he's smart. Got some high falutin' degrees. Aeronautics and astronautics. Strictly a RT/G. Very powerful, should be able to play OT or OG at a starter quality level.
