Martin contract getting closer but not official until contract details are released

The language where u don't pay OG's the top salary in the game, yet u pay the position OG's play directly against (DT's) nothing or minimal pay. Very simple to me but hey I can see why that maybe too complex for you

Ya cause all he wants is Talent for inept Dak to have around him paying no mind to the other 11 players on the defense which we haven't had a good to great one in 20 years....What they don't want to understand is that Cap management is pretty much 50% of any team winning the Superbowl.......Martin is a great player and should be paid but not by us we simply cannot afford the luxury!!!!

Of all the threads, I can't believe this one could turn ugly with bickering lol.

Im now positive if/when we win our next superbowl there will be a faction on this board crying about something.

Wow just wow.
Actually I would think this thread would set off fireworks. Some are celebrating making him the highest paid OG in NFL history as if the fo had really scored. There is not a team in the league that couldn't do what they did and if we see players walk because they can't work them into the cap, then we'll have even more bickering.

It doesn't take too many moves like this to really hamstring a team. And the more a team pays players, the more players want more. The bank is open.

Might as well spend it on mercenaries...

Where else should they spend it? They resign the all pro draft picks. I like it myself. Nevermind that Martin at OG is likely to play at a high level through all 6 of those years.
Everyone knows that the way to win a championship is to NOT resign your best players, of course.

Another Dak bash. LOL. You kil me. I already told you. We have completely revamped our defense. Give it 4 years and see how much money we are paying on defense to our draft picks. Cap management? Yeah, exactly. We have a young cheap and very talented defense right now. You sir literally have no clue what you are talking about.

Whatever. Great day. Don't spoil it with details.

Spot on, dear boy. Today, we should be celebrating. We just managed to complete our oline. Quite a job it was, too. Pity we let it get that bad to where it needed this much work. Good job that this should clear some cap space for future endeavors. As for those concerned about our defense, I'm not too worried. I think our LBers will be quite the team for our defense. I do think LVE will be just what the doctor ordered, and I think our corners should be brilliant this year. I think we'll do well in the more than capable hands of Awuzie and Lewis. Our safeties aren't to shabby either. That Heath chap is turning into quite the star.

The #Cowboys are giving star G Zack Martin a 6-year contract extension that makes him the highest-paid guard with the largest guarantee at his position in NFL history, source said. Richly deserved, as Dallas locks up another key building block on the O-line.

Well i am no fan of it. Not that i dont like Martin but the investment is not ok.

Still i am happy. One in the books. Lets see what the contract looks in detail before i go nuts ;-)

A signing bonus is a lump sum of money to be paid to a player when he signs a contract. This bonus is often a key aspect of contract negotiations, because it is the only truly guaranteed money in any contract. Signing bonuses are not, however, counted in their entirety the year a player signs the contract. Instead, the dollar value is prorated over the length of the contract, up to a maximum of five years. That is only for accounting, though; the bonus is paid, in its entirety, at signing. Let's go back to our example contract
I understand the signing bonus issue. it is the amount that is negotiable. kirk cousins demanded and finally got a 100% guarantee. we did a bit better with martin's deal. ergo, a good deal for both parties.

I am really curious about the contract numbers. I don't really know how I feel about this extension. The contract numbers will clear that up.

As a football move it was the right move. No one could reasonably argue against that.

Whether it is a good cap move is a totally different matter.

Right-O. You're supposed to just let them walk, and let the opposing defenses walk all over your QB. Oh, and no need to worry about Zeke finding holes either. I'm sure he'll do quite well without an offensive line.

It should lower it to around 5m-6m this year depending on the SB

You might be right, but that seems low to me.

Zeitner signed a 5/60m with 21m guaranteed (12 bonus & 9 salary) and it stands to reason ZMart's will be more than that, probably significantly more. If ZMart's is 6 year, it's probably this year layered on top of what would've been his FA contract next year. Say the FA contract would've been 5/75 with 26 guaranteed (16 bonus & 10 salary) and add this year's 9 salary to both the total and guaranteed, the contract would be something like 6/84 with 35 guaranteed. The cap hit will depend on how that 35 guaranteed is structured, but the following seems reasonable using Zeitner's as a guide:

Bonus: $18m
Year 1: $5m salary w/$3m guaranteed
Year 2: $8m salary w/$6m guaranteed
Year 3: $10m salary w/$8m guaranteed
Year 4: $12 salary w/$0 guaranteed
Year 5: $14m salary w/$0 guaranteed
Year 6: $17m salary w/$0 guaranteed

Under this scenario, this year's cap hit is $8m.

Of course, all of this is just conjecture until the specifics of the deal are made known.

Welcome to the ignore list. You are the only inept person here sir. Daks stats and career so far speak for itself. Your posting history speaks for itself. Goodbye

Being on your ignore list I consider the best compliment any intelligent Cowboys fan can achieve....!!!

I like the new online accent... Now I want you and @GimmeTheBall! to have a very existential and very public conversation.
Talley ho!!!

See, what's brilliant about this signing is that it gives us the ease of access that we'll need to build up our defense. Now that we have completed our offensive line, we can now turn our attention to our defense for the time being. While no one outside of the team knows the true potential of our receivers, I happen to think that they'll perform brilliantly. Not to mention that Dak won't have Dez nagging him for the ball anymore. This allows Dak to do what he does best, which is to spread the ball out. Hmm, sounds like someone I know, haha.

Oh, that we have, dear boy, but maybe not to this extent. I might make this a bit more permanent on here depending on how well this is received...and assuming I'm able to stay in character.
