Wheres video of his blocking like a water buffalo on roller skates? I never saw him in a preseason game miss a block that caused a negative play, or got a QB killed. This is all we keep hearing with no video evidence. All I see the guy do is make plays. Can someone find me these videos? Btw I don't care how garrett thinks a guy looks in practice. So don't bring any of his quotes to this response.
He's 4th on the depth chart on a team lacking in tight ends. If he was any good, they'd trade him for something.

When this basketball player is ready to play against real players that are actually going to make their teams, I'll take notice. In the meantime, I'm going to focus on the guys that actually play football.

Lol exactly you have no proof. Just what these bum *** coaches feed you. They have never developed a tight end. Even when they have the talent. So I will still use my eyes and I could care less what the coaches say.

poor route tree.... blah blah blah. Seriously, Rico showed last pre season before the concussion what he could do. Bottom line is Rico could give us a serious downfield threat from the TE position, something we have =nt had in a very long time. He would be a red zone mismatch all day as well.
odd people said this abut Dez as well as the reason to get rid of him..i said Flippin keep the guy stop with the BS comebacks..he will get his shot but if he a one trick pony the NFL will know everytime hes in whats about to come, they will stop it..fine for a little bit but if he cant block some and run more routes he wont be in the NOT FOR LONG NFL..My post supports the guy and you come back ripping me for telling the truth..now lets move on this guy hasn't played because he started raw than injured twice, not because of a dang conspiracy..

I have to find it, but rico caught a pass and got somersaulted and still kept his balance. Think he had another nice catch as well across the middle. That was it. Then the 2nd preseason he balled. Then they stashed him on IR with the bogus concussion, because they knew he wouldn't last on the practice squad or go thru waivers. Now we are at these crossroads, which is hilarious, because he has shown more catching ability than all the other TE's combined, but because he raps people don't want to give him a chance.

Edit:

I think that was his only catch in his first preseason. A nice play, but it was one play. And nobody has denied that he had a nice preseason last year. The point is, Jarwin and Schultz haven't yet had a 2nd preseason. Schultz is just starting his first. They deserve the same chance before being judged. But you apparently are unwilling to let others show their worth as well.

I'm not saying those guys aren't good or will not be good. I am saying Rico has shown more playmaking ability at the te position than we ever had. Yeh Witten was good but he wasn't a playmaker

Isn’t keeping a guy three years giving him a chance? As bad as this team NEEDS a TE, if he was really that good, he would already be seeing more action. Hint- he ain’t that good.

One other note: Rico’s highlights from last year need some context. As is the case in the one you showed earlier, it takes place in the 4th qtr against other 4th stringers who won’t make an NFL roster. Rico is undoubtedly a very good athlete and that shows in his preseason highlights against NFL scrubs.

Man I don’t dislike Rico. He’s been an interesting project. But in my 50 plus years watching cowboys football I’ve never seen a more over-hyped guy. It’s crazy.

As a rookie, we knew there was zero chance he was making the 53, coming to football for first time in years. We all understood that. Last year he was having a great pre season and then got the concussion that lasted the entire season????? This year is time. He either is on the team or you let him go. Projects at some point are no longer projects but just not good. The route tree is just garbage. What, the guy can only remember 3 routes and then he forgets? certain routes are just to difficult for him to run? Oh his blocking sucks.... how good was Ben Coates at blocking? what about Graham? What about Tony Gonzalez? We have no TE right now, and Rico is the only one who looks like he can come in and make serious plays that can impact a game. I personally cant wait to see him on the field again.

The fascination with this chump is unbelievable. He had one decent pre season a year ago, a one handed catch, a lame rap career and some size so people can’t shut up about him. Why do some of you love him so much? What am I missing?
He's almost the size of an OT and is athletic enough to run routes and go up and get the ball...and once he gets the ball in his hands in the secondary and is 60+ lbs heavier than everyone around him trying to tackle him...phew gonna look like a bunch of lions climbing on the back of a rhino #hypemachine

Witten not a playmaker? Surely you're thinking of his playing days post 30 years old?
He was never on the Gates level of explosiveness but he wasn't slow or an one trick pony his first 5-7 years in the league.

well the NFL route tree isn't just called in the huddles its dictated by defensive formations and where you are lined up etc knowing when to shift, go in motion , or hear and see the audbile just by reading the defense the QB sees it but you dont it causes issues..maybe thats what they mean his grasp of the offensive scheme when it comes to what hes supposed to run might be the conflict.. nobody really knows we arent there but also how aroute is run just because you know its a5 yard jitch or curl its how and where you put your dfender in that route or adjust if the defender takes this away.. Witten was master at this which hip to put the defender on, how to block them out or to adjust depth of route to compensate.. yes thes eare all part of the play call, not just run 5 yards and turn around or run a seam route its how you use the sideline etc its Dez grasp of this that was an issue not that he couldn't know the play call and what route to run but how to run it..

Dude's not wrong... they've spent a lot of valuable resources on TE's and still never had any success with anyone other than a Hall of Famer that was here before any of them.

That’s what everyone wants to believe and would be cool if that happened but I don’t see it. I’d love to be wrong but we’ll see.

And I didn't say Rico didn't have talent or the potential to be a good player either. All I was responding to was the idea that the other TEs don't have any ability to catch passes, and that there are more facets to the position than an occasional highlight catch. I'm intrigued by what Rico might be able to do too, I just think people often post based on emotion rather than logic. As far as I'm concerned none of our TE's are either condemned or absolute certainties yet

What else do you want the guy to do. Be a Garrett guy aka a snitch aka under Garrett's desk. Regardless if it was against 4th stringers hes balled with the opportunities the staff has given him. That's all u can ask a guy to do.

What are the facets of the position where Rico has looked awful in a game on tape. Can we all see?

But I never said he NEVER did anything positive for the Cowboys. He has.

However, he could do much, much more. With great power comes great responsibility.

You get a like for the spider-man reference...lol
