I doubt it happens, but I wouldn't hate it. He wasn't worth his contract, but if he's suddenly getting league minimum or close to it then that's a different story. The Cowboys have nobody like Dez on the roster. Just his jump ball ability in the end zone makes him worth league minimum. The question is, would he agree to such a reduced role? Not sure his ego has shrunk that much.

As opposed to all the electrons we waste on tight end that is lucky to be on a roster that he shouldn't be?

Same conversation in reverse really. They both should die.

800+ threads about a tight end with 0 receptions...
Rico is not being utilized correctly. Period. Play the guy and reap the rewards.... Clown coaches.

I think a 4-6 million a year deal for a couple of years is worth the talent that Dez brings. If he’s worked his *** off and can provide a solid WR for Dak I’m open to it.

The pass to Gathers is a 6 to Dez. That is his strength. The one on one jump ball.

I hate that play. It only makes sense when the efficiency is high. Romo and Dez at their best had that. Dez now with Dak won't. Stop calling that play and just run the ball.

On the other side of the coin:
Rico doesn't yet know how to take advantage of his situations.
Yet.

You cannot tell me he went all-out on that TD try against that smaller DB. He short-jumped and didn't fight for the ball.

He can be good, but he ain't there yet.

Dez would have caught that ball, or at least made it look like more of a fight.

Dez isn't the player he once was, but still has a skillset that could be valuable to a team if he was willing to accept a new roll. Unfortunately, I don't think that was the case before, maybe he's come to grips with that?

Yessir. No need for any riot act. Just provisions in a contract.
Money talks louder than mouths.

Yea, by riot act I mean letting him know no more showing up late to meetings, whining, excessive outbursts, etc. Basically, get a feel to where his mind is at, humbled, focused and ready to play.

They have to make sure that he won't rock the boat. Sounds like a job interview :muttley:

I can agree with just run the ball but dez would have got off the ground a lot higher then gathers...a lot even with a guy on him

I remember the start of last year, the offense was clicking and Dez was playing decent.

Once Zeke was suspended and Tyrone Smith was injured-everything came off the tracks.

I would be fine with him getting a new deal here, incentive based. Deonte Thomoson would become expendable and we would gain a 4th round comp pick in return.

That fourth round pick is going to spell the doom of Thompson. I thought he was playing well. One of our guys who could actually execute. But a fourth round pick is a real pick, and gets us a real player.

This is the kind of stuff that turns me off to Jerry's punk son.
He's an inflated ego with zero skins on the wall, but acts like he's Brainiac.
He burns bridges before the players do.

I want him gone before Jerry.

The Ravens are in a pretty good spot to make a run for the playoffs. I think if he would have signed he would have made them better and have given Flacco another threat at WR. Now he hasn't had much luck since he refused their deal.

Yes, our standards are pretty low.

I think the ship has sailed and there's no going back, but I can't exactly say we've been better off without him. I didn't really think we would be, though.

If he had been cut for salary vs. production alone, we might could work something out, but the route issues and the demanding personality issues outweigh any ability he has left.
Our new WR "guru" even thew shade on Dez during the off season. If we did re-sign him, it wouldn't reflect well on our FO, they might have to admit their WR philosophy and how they approached it didn't work.
