It's got everything to do with it.

You struggle with context. As noted by others, the game was different. The reason why percentages were lower across the board then than compared to now is largely due to rules. DBs had way more leeway to rough up WRs in that day.

The fact you can't grasp what are fairly basic concepts and understandings of how the league has evolved is funny at this point.
Penalties were still called back then. Don't act like it wasn't. How did Troy look his last 4 years? Doesn't sound like you remember?

How old are you? Did you even see that Great Wall of Dallas perform during the early-to-mid 90s?

I’m asking you a simple question. You are the one attributing Aikman’s play to that stud O line.. so what did they do without Aikman?

Troy was good. Romo was good.

Troy won 3 SBs because the defense and ST were good and offense was balanced with Emmitt and Irvin. Troy did not win those SBs by carrying the Cowboys. He had a lot of help.

A lot of fans on this board keep whining about an elite QB.

I believe if we completely follow the 90s model by upgrading D and receiving, the Cowboys can compete for SB with Dak in today’s watered down NFL... since there are no teams dominant like the 90s Cowboys and 80s 49ers.
We're never going to have a team like those 90's teams. We had backups who could have started on most teams.

Can you imagine Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin being allowed to roam free without worrying about getting their heads taken off with Montana/Young and Aikman being damn near untouchable in the pocket?

I forgot to mention the much lighter and fitted equipment as well... look at the shoulder pads now versus then...

Hard to be accurate when you are in constant duress. I would agree more with the Dak haters if I felt the guy was being given the opportunity to succeed. The reality is that this organization has failed him.

Come on, a QB has to play under duress.

Go look at tape of Watson in that Houston game. Our defense gave him a beating to the point the doctors were checking his heartbeat and respiration on the sideline. He was holding his rib cage walking on and off the field and could barely even stand up right.

But guess what...….the dude in OT was hitting WRs in stride 20 yards away with perfect ball placement directly in their hands. No way in hell Dak could have made those passes. Not hating, just stating reality.

Your ignorance is astounding.

Are you actually arguing that the passing rules are basically the same today and the game is called the same as it was in the 90s?

I actually addressed your last four years comment. Aikman, in 1999, finished as one of the Top 10 highest completion percentages that year. In 1998, he was the 8th highest rated QB that year.

So in reality, Aikman's last few years weren't nearly as dreadful as you are trying to make them out to be.

I'm ready to move on. Dak has been given ample opportunity. He's not our franchise QB. I'd rather see if Rush has anything in him ...

Well depth was actually in the equation then as well... not so much here in Dallas now.
We have awful backups. We lose a star player and the team falls apart. Actually a little surprised this year that the defense has stayed good after Lee went out. I guess that's progress. lol

Aikman, Smith, and Irvin won over 70% of the games they played together.

They won around 50% or less of games when 1 of them did not play.

I thinked they suffered more when Emmitt did not play.

The Triplets collectively made the OL better.

The only HOF player from that OL is LA but he was not around for the first 2 SBs with Jimmy.

Do not need players that good. That is why I believe Dak is sufficient if other areas are addressed.

Just better players where the Cowboys D, offense, and ST can be among the best collectively and simultaneously in this era.

Last year, Dak completed 63% of his passes... it was pretty much right at the league average.

In 1996, Troy completed 63% of his passes. That was #2 in the NFL behind Steve Young.
