A lot of that is pocket awareness. The guys at the bottom of that list know how & where to move in the pocket to avoid the pressure. If you watch Dak when he feels the pressure he does the exact same thing every time. He shuffles backwards and tries to spin away and often he turns right into where the pressure is. So in essence he’s not only causing sacks for himself, he’s also causing himself to get pressured faster. And I’m not saying it’s always his fault, sometimes there are breakdowns on the OL that are so bad it can’t be saved by Dak. But many times Tyron or Collins get beat on the edge, but they recover enough to shove the DE further into the backfield. However, Dak feels it, gives up ground, and spins right into where our Ts have pushed the DE.
With three starters now out the PP is probably going to be worse for him. But when Tyron is in there he’s getting top 5-ish protection as far as time. If he could do what say Brees does, the little subtle movements in the pocket to avoid the pressure, those numbers would improve. But the fact that he reacts the same way every time means he doesn’t know where it’s coming from and that’s a big issue for him right now.
