Mahomes you pay top top $. Dak you do the following: 1)Pay Dak after his 4th year 2)Franchise Dak after his 4th year 3)Pay Dak this offseason with a big discount attached as he is getting paid 1-2yrs early. Those are your 3 legitimate options, Jerry may pull out the checkbook this offseason and give Dak $30m per year.

Watch the video. Accept it, don't accept it, it doesn't matter. It won't change the fact that what they are saying here is the truth and is the future for this team.

There is no chance this front office does the right thing. You are about to be saddled with the most over paid player in the league. Eating up chunks of cap space while you desperately try to put an all pro core around him to overcome all the things he can't do. Namely, play the position of QB.

Mark it down. Jerry is about to make another ginormous mistake. He is the gift that keeps on giving. For fans of the Eagles, Giants and Commanders.

Go Cowboys, bros.

I've been saying what they said for a minute now...unfortunately, Jerry Jones is not going to do what he should (not extend Prescott).

Just remember the words of Bill Parcells. “You can’t just pick up the phone and dial 1-800-QUARTERBACK”.

Dak isn’t perfect but he’s good enough. There are no free agent quarterbacks better this off season. The franchise has no number 1 pick.

So @Risen Star if your plan is to wait until the 2020 draft to pick one and start him in 2021, then start over with the offensive line, running back, and defense, count me out.

What is your plan exactly?

This is a team sport and Dak does enough to win (as witness by his 29-15 record).
The plan is to not extend Dak early.

Also Dak does not have a winning record. The Cowboys do. Please stop giving a team stat to an individual player.

I didn't hear you Romoholics complain during the 10 years of Romo!!! Nothing but chokeness!!! Y'all truly love chokers, eh?

The Dak Tebow haters are hilarious.

All the guy does is win, and yet here you are.. kind of pathetic, really.

The guy has all the intangibles, and he adds another element to the game that is hard to stop with his rushing ability.

First things first. We need to worry about this season first. If you have a chance to make the playoffs, you make the playoffs and you try to go as deep in the playoffs as you possibly can.

Second. I hope Dak is smart enough to realize his serious money is on the endorsement side of things and as the QB of the Cowboys he will get a ton of endorsements if he is a winner. Hopefullly he sees that and doesn't cut off his nose to spite his face.

Third. Let's be fair in evaluating Dak. His rookie year was fun but he got lucky on the lack of INTs. A lot of things broke right for Dak. Dak has struggled the past two years significantly. That can't be overlooked. He hasn't carried the team on his back. He has played just well enough to let the talent around him win games.

He's also not a bottom 15 QB. Most of those guys can't win games or even manage a game unless it's against a team with another really bad QB.

You treat Dak just like every other position. You offer Dak a reasonable deal. (That's not 27 million per year). That's probably $15 to $20 million average per year if you extend him while he is on his rookie deal and factor in his $800k salary he is due next year. You say what you are willing to pay and if he won't take it you make him play out his rookie contract and then decide if you want to franchise him or not.

What is probably fairest to the team and Dak would be to give Dak $17 million per year over the next three years with no signing bonus with all three of the years guaranteed. That would enable Dak to hit the market again and get a huge payday. It would also enable him to protect himself from catastrophic injury next year before he gets paid.

It also helps keep our cap healthy with no SB because it keeps his future cap hit low.

As a side note, when team eventually "get smart" they will get away from this idea that competition at the QB spot is a bad thing and start drafting QBs that they think have a chance to beat out the starter and give them competitive reps. This will make both QBs improve and give them leverage at the negotiating table.

If Dak won't play ball for a reasonable deal, I would make it a priority to draft a mid round QB 2-4 to develop. I don't think White is that guy but at least the Cowboys took a chance.

Also, really good QB coaches are worth their weight in gold.

Even if you like Dak you should have the awareness to see he isn’t the reason we win and having him on a giant contract crushes the overall team.

You can make a strong case that he was the reason why we won the first Philly game..and he was a big part of why we won the Atlanta game..

I don't think he's worth elite qb money by any means..and the team is in a bad position..but I think people just assume dak does nothing to help the team..which isn't true at all

We can’t pay Dak for 2016.

We pay him for what he isn’t going forward and he’s a guy with great intangibles but not that great of a QB.

We win because of everyone around. Pay the guys around him.
your speaking rationally not realistically

One good thing about Stephen is that he's a money cruncher.

They will come into the negotiations with a realistic mindset. If Dak wants 27 million then he's gonna have to produce with Cooper, Tank Smith, etc.

But if he wants a 100 million guaranteed at 18 million then we can build a team around Dak.

I like Dak. I want him signed to a very reasonable, cap friendly deal. Less than 20 million is what I'm looking at. If he wants more then he can go elsewhere.

Anyone insistent on paying Prescott now, let's pay him according to his productivity. That's fair, right?

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...ory=PASSING&d-447263-s=PASSING_YARDS_GAME_AVG

What's the appropriate contract for a guy passing for the 31st most yards per game in the league?

I'm good with paying him according to production. Nothing fairer than that.

What would the numbers be for the 31st best quarterback contract in the league?

+12 expected points added over the last five games. When the OL issues are fixed, does that number stay the same, or does it look more like 2016's number (53.1 over 16 games)? Time should tell.

To the thread starter, it’s a losing battle to have a rational conversation with people that use his win loss record to justify how great he is.

There’s nothing more that irks me about sports, whether it’s football, baseball, or basketball: people that think Eli > Romo/Rivers, Jeter > Arod, etc. I can’t even...

That’s an opinion, not necessarily the truth. Could be right or wrong. We simply do not know yet.

Couldn't disagree more with Nick and his ridiculous scenario. Do you seriously think we would be better off losing a football game? Even if we lose Sunday we have a very, very good chance at winning the division. Also, who is to say Dak isn't going to improve over the next 3 games after Philly? I'm not making a case for the next contract just making a case that the media makes a living on speculation.

Long term? Absolutely, you can be better off losing a game if that loss keeps you from dumb decisions.

And anyone who understands Dak's limitations is to say he won't improve (this is about long term, not 2018).

Cooper gives you that one
We need a TE too I think
We aren’t the 85 bears but we are a top tier defense
To me it’s not so much the amount with Dak but an out in 3 years
I’d rather pay a bit more to have an out
I’m not sure that you can sign Dak for 20 mil
He hired the same agent that got QB’s comparable to Dak huge contracts
Will Dak go for all he can get or take less?
You are right 20 million is low. I started looking at what Bradford and Bortles got. Geez. Maybe give Dak 60 million in guarantees for 3 years and make it 80 with incentives. The more I think about it. He is getting 100 million and he deserves it. He has the team by the balls. Good for him. I just have an issue with Foxsports openly questioning Dak's money. Something smells with that.

One of the reason why Brady has so much success besides the obvious reasons, is he took less pay to build a team around. Brady’s contracts have been cheap compare to other qbs who have not won a SB or has been in as many as he has.
How much did Brady take? It helps to marry a billionaire model. Maybe if Dak got with one of the Kardashians/Jenner girls.
