Jason Garrett Contract Extention

There is no question this team plays very hard for Jason Garrett. His regular season records so far
8-8, 8-8, 8-8, 12-4, 4-12, 13-3, 9,7,
10-6. Now add 2 playoff wins. Not bad compared to the constant coaching changes around the league. As it stands now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jerry extend him for something like 3yrs 7m per year (through 2022). I still want another coach, but it’s hard to justify a change now. Like it or not, Garrett’s here for the long haul folks.

Im not doing the Garrett bashing thing today. I actually think this has been a great 2nd half of the season coaching wise. That being said if we stick with Garrett then there HAS to be some new, great offensive mind in here to handle the offense. Let Garrett do his team unity, rah rah thing and let someone new completely handle the gameplanning and offense.

I think the problem is that you accept regular season success as the end all be all and I accept it as step one in a multistep process. He failed step 2. We're not going to agree. I'm not saying he wasn't done dirty, and I certainly think he should have been able to pick his OC. But the fact of the matter is that when push came to shove, his defenses failed just as hard in the playoffs as the offense did in his years here. And he was in charge of that. So no, he wasn't a good HC here.

Nice conversation, but I'm convinced that you are wrong and that he was a failure as he failed in the post-season. Sorry.

I don’t have to convince you. It’s clear you tried to attribute Wade’s success to Parcells, but that didn’t work, so you made up some other excuses that were unrelated to his stint here. By your same logic, Shanahan won with Wade’s team. Further, players here loved Wade and to this day, blame Garrett and his offense. Guys like Crayton and Holley for example. The issues were around TO and the offense, which is why Jerry leverage a draft for Roy Williams. And the offense committed 19 TOs in 7 games before Wade was fired. That’s not giving up on Wade, that’s giving up because your offense keeps putting the defense back on the field.

Wade was telling Jerry, but he didn’t listen. Garrett had no clue how to run the ball.

Why extend anybody when you still got next year with Dak and I think Garrett..

This is the most complete team, top to bottom that we've had since the end of the glory years in the 90s. It's better than the 2016 team in that our defense is capable of shutting down any offense. Our O line isn't what it was that year but you saw yesterday that they are still more than capable.

So, with all that, I would think the expectation should be for Garrett to advance this team beyond where he's been able to get with it. I said back when we were 3-5 that the only way I wanted to see him stay was if he made the NFCCG. What I want may be irrelevant but that's still where I've set the bar for keeping him.

Garrett is a losing coach. Held together by good QB play his whole career. Without Romo this guy would have been 4-12 every season. Now Dak is saving him. Terrible coach. 3 playoff games in 9 years. Brownesque.

Guy need to go.

Nice 2 point WC game win at home. I wouldn't break out the anointing oil for the coaching staff just yet....

All NFL players play hard for their HC , they are professionals .

3 playoff berths in 9 years is atrocious .
You don't remember when they laid down on Wave Phillips?

I've seen plenty of teams quit on their coach.

I can live with Garrett being the HC, but we must replace Linehan

Keeping him without an extension would be a good compromise between firing him and the extension.

If you do this, you're pretty much boxing yourself into keeping Linehan. Pretty hard to attract a quality OC for a lame-duck head coach. I would extend him 1 year. That should be enough to hire an OC and give him a contract that expires same year as Garrett extension 2021.

I hate this line of thinking. He also coached them to 3-5. Making the playoffs in general is great, adding any extra emphasis to it because of the start he was a part of is silly. Jerry grabbing Amari had a lot to do with it.

Nah, the Cowboys were 3-5 because they’d lacked a #1 receiver, not because of bad coaching. Once they got Cooper everything changed.

He still had the best running back in the league and an incredible defense. But that furthers my point, Amari was the difference maker. garret is who he is

Well, forget any talk about an extension. I propose to strike when the iron is hot. Regardless of how far the Cowboys advance in the playoffs, if any team wants to trade for Garrett, I am all ears. Make me an offer. A late 1st round pick for him? He's all yours. An early 2nd round pick for him? OK, sure, get me Mike Munchak on the phone to schedule an interview.

I am not big "Garrett guy", but if you trash a guy for 3-5, then you MUST thank him for 8-1 (including playoff win); I have said several times, I would be ok with garrett staying AS LONG AS they hire an OC like Riley and a DC like Richard....let the rest sort itself out - I would LOVE to see Dak with a true OC that is not mired in 1995 and QB coach that knows how to be an NFL QB from experience

Here's to 11-1!

So you are saying we have attitude problems on this roster but that they decide to go the straight and narrow because of Garrett's leadership?

Give me a break.

I'm saying those players don't play for their coach, who's quitting on this Team? You're the only fool who can't see. You please give all of us a break and ****

Amazing how low the bar is. He is the longest tenure coach in the league without a superbowl win..or appearance. Lets at least get there before we back up the brinks truck.

So, there's 8 coaching vacancies and some had tenures of 1 year, how's that working out....lol

Garrett choked away three playoff qualifying games to three teams in the same division each year when he was in control of the offense.

Garrett is no longer a coach of the offense and simply a figure head coach. Do you ever see him even talking in his headset? Richards is yelling at players on defense and telling them what to do.

Garrett has no real coaxing influence. When Garrett was banished from the offense, team moved forward. The more responsibility Garrett had taken away, the better the team has gotten,

And this team is still full of his idiotic decision making. Beasley had ankle injuries for weeks and ended up playing him a full game last week which was meaningles and now he basically turned his ankle again on the PI play and hobbled off the field with the same issues. Thus guy was running Zeke in the fourth when being shut out by 20 against the Colts.

You’re saying some crazy stuff dude...smh
