“At least one Super Bowl.” Yeah. That’s exactly what the real issue is.
I don’t think Garrett is a great coach, as I’ve said many times. I think he’s a good coach who’s great at working with Jerry, and I think you can win a Super Bowl with that. You can’t, however, win a Super Bowl without a great team. Which is why we ought to be focusing on acquiring enough talent instead of blaming coaching. For teams that are close but fall short.
To answer your question though: I think there are great coaches who haven’t won Superbowls, yes. There are other significant factors beyond coaching that go into team success. Some of them are really important. And in the NFL, as we know, most teams have a really quick hook.
This is all stuff I’ve said before though.
It is precisely the issue.
We are continuing to employ a coach who has not shown once in 8 years, he can lead a team to something we haven't seen since the 90s. He's gone as far in the playoffs as Wade Phillips.
So yeah, the fact we keep hitting a ceiling that isn't even a conference title game appearance is precisely the issue.
The problem we have here is that in order for Jason to win a SB, he's going to need a loaded team. How likely is it that we can build a team that is loaded enough for him to win, to overcome whatever deficiencies he has when you factor in things like injuries often hit, teams are often limited by the cap, etc.
SB winning coaches often overcome odds or are able to mask flaws on teams. They win SBs based on their coaches being able to use their strengths to overcome their weaknesses.
But here you are arguing Garrett basically needs a ton of talent and if we give him that, then sure, he might win it. Basically, let's give Garrett an all-pro team and he can win. Of course ignoring the fact that it's unlikely in this day and age of the NFL that you can build a team as stacked as one needs to be for this staff to win.
