I used to be plagued by nighttime calf cramps and occasionally the whole leg from calf to buttock and that is a pain difficult to describe and all one can do is gut it out because the leg would tighten up against my hamstring. My Dad had leg cramps a lot.

So, Leon, here is CC's Home Remedy and it works for me and has for several friends, if these become recurring and mine were coming every night up until about 4 years ago. Since part of that is a dehydration issue, I drink a half a large bottle of Smart Water every day and since it is also a deficiency problem, take a magnesium with breakfast with the rest of my vits with 8oz of Smart Water and a potassium with dinner with 8oz of Smart Water. I do take quite a few supplements and no one can convince me that they do not work. The other thing I was doing, until Hector joined me and I haven't been able to cross my legs high enough yet, is a 30 second calf massage right before going to bed and I get pretty vigorous with that. This has really worked well for me.

When I had them, like you and my Dad, I hit the floor and walked it off and a physical therapist told me there is a higher risk of rupturing the Achilles and told me that the minute it hit, start slowly pulling your foot back at the ankle until you feel it beginning to release and go back to normal and continue doing this for 30 seconds really stretching the calf out. Then you can get up and walk so you don't have a sore calf the next morning.

Because I've had back issues for 15 years, I splurged on what has been the best investment in the quality of life I've ever experienced. I bought an Osaki massage chair and hit the back and calves at the same time and when I go Zero G, I go somewhere else for 20-30 minutes. I go into such a deep sleep, I am a little groggy, more than usual, upon awakening. I would sacrifice other things to have one of these massage units. Not my necessities of cigars and whiskey, mind you, but clothing and food are overrated.

And speaking of food, and I was, kinda, what brand of pizza dough did she bring home?
The brand was Molinaro's. The crust was okay. I know a lot of people say the crust "makes" the pizza, but I'm not a connoisseur so what do I care. I go for the taste of the other ingredients. I've had gourmet pizzas in restaurants and I like this one better that those.

Good morning Pops and friends. I need that remedy also CC. The leg cramps hit me mostly during the summer months on days I’ve done lots of sweating. Seems like you can’t drink enough water. It’s much worse when both legs cramp at the same time. Makes ya want to holler
My doc told me water really isn't that great of a hydrator and when we get thirsty, our bodies are already in a state of dehydration. That's why Gatorade and Powerade are recommended when people have the flu and dehydration is a possibility. But since I don't need the calories, I choose Smart Water but I gotta have it cold because I don't like the taste at room temp. I also make my cold brew coffee and tea with Smart Water.

I am not sure what has worked so well because I started the Smart Water, magnesium and potassium all at the same time and the calf massages. But I used to not be albe to point my toes or reach up and be on the balls of my feet without it hitting in the daytime. I also drink extra Smart Water whenever I am drinking red wine because I discovered that brought them on more than anything else I might be drinking.

I've had that double leg cramp and I hollered my adult vocabulary really loud. But I only had that total leg cramp 3 times but that was enough to make me confess to things I hadn't done...…….. but had considered. I had that Jimmy Carter "lusting in my heart" moment.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. We are finally going to get a nice sunny day with a high of 58. It's been overcast all day long for a while now and the last two days have been drizzly and rainy. I have to admit, though, that I do love to sit and watch the rain. I hope all of you have a great day.

Edit: Does anybody know why DBRP quit posting in this thread? I loved her posts.

Morning Pops and posters. Tuesday's are better because they're not Monday's but come up short compared to Wednesday's.

When you are retired, one day is pretty much like another except on Saturday's when I head to the city to see the grandkids. My Mom kept track of the days with her doc appointments and there for a couple of months, I was doing the same.

I miss having a favorite day of the week. Mine was always Friday. When I travelled or commuted, I was headed home and since I am more of an anticipatory person than in the moment, looking forward to the weekend was better than being in it because the countdown to Monday had already begun.

Morning Pops. Morning Fellas and good morning to any and all who decide to stop in and check stuff out.

Today I got the Little Guy so we are just sitting here, watching Sing. He loves this show. Anyhow, hope everybody is doing well.

Leon, I have no idea why DBRP is not posting. To be honest, I miss a lot of the posters who have come and gone from this thread but, you gotta just hope everybody is doing well and push ahead, so to speak.

Coach, any day I can see the Kids or the Grandbaby or just have a good day with the Wife, I count as a good day!

Jobs, Leon, dbrp, Xelda, zrin, Trouty, ksk, RGV, Coach, RWB, Ranching, SW, John and Gramma, I hope everybody is doing well this Tuesday.

Everybody, have a great day, find something that makes you smile if you can.

Evening Pops and all who checked in today.

Rough day... been in a bit of a funk reminiscing about my guy who passed away almost 3 years ago now...about a month shy. Amazing how a heart can ache so long for a love you can no longer touch, but can still feel. All holidays are tough and he always had a way of making each one special, like it was just for me. God, I miss him. This is probably the perfect time to be going to visit the grands out in Virginia. One week to go. I think I need the distraction...

Sorry to be a downer. Maybe this winter has just been too long and I need some fresh air and sunshine... and grandbabies.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Tuesday. Looking forward to getting this week over with for sure.

(ABQ, I find the grands always make me smile when nothing else can.)

Good evening Pops and friends. So sorry for your loss Gramma. Losing a loved is so difficult. They leave a vacancy that can’t be filled. Time, prayer and family support have helped me during those trying times.

Grandkids are so much fun and bring such a joy. My wife and I saw my oldest gson play a JV soccer game this evening. Our other gkids were running up and down the bleachers, just being kids. They bring energy that recharges your day.

You’re going to have a great vacation. It’s good therapy for the soul.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. Happy hump day. I'm playing golf this afternoon and it should be a nice day with a high of 63. I feel sorry for my cat. The old boy is nearly blind and he has diabetes so we have to limit the amount of food he gets. He thinks we're starving him. Gramma, true love never dies. I'm glad you're holding on to the good memories. ABQ, I'm so happy that you are still posting here. I wish we could meet and have a cup of coffee. I'm happy all you other posters are here too. Reading this thread is one of the highlights of my morning.

Have a happy day, everyone.

Much needed time off for sure. Been a long time since the last vacation so I'm definitely overdue.

Good morning Pops and everyone.

I couldn't help but smile at the comments regarding grandkids. Soon, we're headed to Orlando for our grand daughter's 3rd birthday. My daughter and her family live in Orlando and have season passes to WDW. I can't imagine growing up near the world's most popular theme park and being able to visit any time you desire.

Anyway, the party will be at one of the Disney water parks... I don't know who has more fun, me or the grandkids?

Not a downer at all, GJ... it is life and the fact that you miss him so probably means you have a wonderful collection of great memories.

Gramma, I can relate, was 8 years on Feb 1 since I lost my wife and if that's not bad enough, Valentine's Day rolls around in two weeks with all of the advertising that brings then I get her birthday on April 1 and our anniversary in May, not a springtime fellow am I. In 3 days, it will be 3 years that I lost my Mom so I have a real dislike of February. Glad it's short and it's a crappy month weather wise anyway.

However, it will get easier as time passes and like Colo said, the memories of them bring us more comfort than the pain of loss. I am glad to hear you are heading out for that surprise visit for your granddaughter, the best present she will receive, let your mind focus on that and your heart will follow.

Most definitely. They sneak up on you when you least expect it though... sometime's like a good smack in the head. I suppose I need one of those now and again anyway:rolleyes:
They sure do, like an aroma, a sound, a song, a sight can trigger thoughts that you thought you had under wraps. But with time comes the ability to shift that to a great memory of you with that person, imagining their smile or laugh and you feel more in control of how you feel.

Good morning Pops and friends. It’s 45 right now and warming up to 63 this afternoon, blue skies sunshine. Good day to mow. The grass is still somewhat dormant but a few weeds are spouting up here and there. The clover is in full bloom. My wife and I will go to the park later and log our 3 miles for the day. She wants me to build her a little table so I’ll see what I can put together. Have a great day friends.

Sounds like you are having a tough patch Jan. Can only say that it's good that you are here, among friends, and that you are not alone. Of course, you are correct, Grandbabies always help!

I hate this time of year for the NFL. Lots of squabbling over contracts etc. Gets old.

Jobs, Leon, dbrp, Xelda, zrin, Trouty, ksk, RGV, Coach, RWB, Ranching, SW, John and Gramma, all of you have a great day!

Everyone, lets get over the hump and start down the other side. Have a great day everybody!

Afternoon Popadoodles and friendsadoodles. I've been behaving myself somewhat. Almost. Something happened to my right eye last week and I've forced myself to back off and not strain it any more than necessary. Every time I start to get on line and hit Cowboys zone, I think of Leon getting a shot in his eye. That really put the brakes on, but I've got to check in and make sure certain rapscallions haven't blown anything up or gotten arrested.
My doc told me water really isn't that great of a hydrator and when we get thirsty, our bodies are already in a state of dehydration. Water can't be hydrating because when I drink it all I can possibly do is run pee. I've heard when you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. A fat lot of good it does since it can't wait to get back out into the wild. Ok Coach, where can I find this Extra Smart Water? I think I'm pretty smart, but I could really use the boost.

To all our Pops family that have lost a loved one, I wish I had the perfect words to lift you up but Coach hasn't told me where to find the ESW yet. We stand with you though as you go through weak moments of loss and longing. This is a safe place for all of us. Make it a good day because you matter.

It's not Extra Smart Water, lol, I drink more of the Smart Water.

You'd think I would be smarter as much of that as I've consumed but I continue to stupid up on whiskey and cancelling out the extra Smart Water.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. I'm off to the eye doc this morning for another injection. At least the retina seems to be doing well. We had a lot of fun playing golf yesterday even though the sunshine disappeared and it got cold. We're going to dinner tonight for Valentines day. I picked up the roses yesterday. My neighbor wasn't happy about that but the bush was so full I couldn't resist the temptation.

Just kidding. Have a great day, Y'all.
