He's a savings to cut. Say goodbye now, or sign him to an extension with a significant pay cut.

Let me ask you this......a number of your post seem to highlight saving $$$$$. What are your plans with the money you're saving? (LOL)

You figure out who's costing $9 million and then get back to me.

No, he still wasted far too many snaps uselessly lining up at right defensive end. Wasting both time and money in a vain effort to get him on the field "somewhere" to try to justify that bloated contract. Nice try though.

Hell, a guy on the streets can be had for league minimum, and we are certainly paying Woods, Collins, LVE and Jaylon Smith more than that. If the guy on the street is better and cheaper, why not go with him?

He was the back up to the back up at RDE - both Gregory and Taco got more snaps there than Crawford did. I'm not denying that he is getting paid too much, but I think you are vastly exaggerating his weaknesses. He is what he is - a solid backup/rotational guy at both DE and DT, but not starter material at either. But he is not the bottom of the barrel, zero talent guy you make him out to be.

Which of them makes $9 million? Get back to me when you find one, and then they'll be on equal footing. Until then? No, apples to oranges waste of time.

Who started there? Go look that up if you need to.

He's not worth what he's being paid, and his contract needs to finally be corrected. If he's willing to come down to being paid for who he is, just as you've said "a solid backup/rotational guy at both DE and DT", that's fine, keep him. But if he isn't? Time to cut the cord, and long overdue.

Here's his comp, also named Crawford:

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/jack-crawford-9979/

Jack Crawford signed a 3 year, $8,800,000 contract with the Atlanta Falcons, including a $2,500,000 signing bonus, $3,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,933,333. In 2019, Crawford will earn a base salary of $2,250,000 and a roster bonus of $275,000, while carrying a cap hit of $3,358,334 and a dead cap value of $833,334.

And this guy outperformed him in 2018.

That's return on investment, not wasting money.

We have no leverage now. He has no incentive to take anything less than the best offer he’ll get in the market. If you haven’t noticed - the market isn’t pretty crazy.

I've noticed the market for safeties dropping.

Moving his family to Austin has fueled rumors? How so? Austin isn't a hop and a skip away from the DFW area, its over 3 hours drive time just to get there from Fort Worth. Its not like he would be making a commute like that on a daily basis.
Closer than Seattle. :muttley:

He'd better give us a hometown discount, or he'll be coaching in Austin or playing for the Texans.

Now if he'd just give us a discount....

A guy can dream, right? :)

Or playing for some other team. Having a home in Austin doesn’t mean he can only play for a Texas based team.

He better give a hometown discount. He is 30 and coming off an injury.

We cannot pay Dak, DLaw, ET, Cooper, Zeke, Byron, and Jaylon all like they are the top of their positions.

I would not give him 10-12 million a year with him being injury prone the last couple seasons

he's done almost everything possible lobbying the cowboys to sign him. everything but lower his asking price. that would be a good place to start.

I hope you’re right. I’ll grab the thatcher honey badger was signed for much less than I expected. We’ll see.

Oh they were all way down. Remember how long it took Tre Boston, Kenny Vaccaro, and Eric Reid to even get signed? And even when they did, it was far, far less than what anyone expected.

The drop in the market for safeties was one of the big shockers of 2018 free agency.

If Thomas is out for all that he can get, he can go join Richard Sherman in San Francisco.

But a lot closer than Seattle, playing there and going "home" to Austin is a lot harder than playing in Dallas and going "home" to Austin...

The cost to keep Crawford is 2018 was 6M.

The cost to keep Crawford in 2019 is 7M.

The cap hit is more because they deferred money in his contract previously and used it to pay other players.
