Why even bother following the Cowboys in the off season.

Stephen Jones is cheap and has no idea what hes doing in free agency beyond basically doing nothing

We signed a tight end everyone had to Google and a FB that no one else wants.

We have no 1st round and yet we sign no one of value, nor do we even sign our best defensive player

/fail....again

Isn't it great that we traded our 1st away this year? yay!
Amari Cooper will be better in 2019 than any drafted WR.

The fail rate on 1st round WRs is very high.

Also Cooper is the ideal type of WR with Dak as the QB. Much like Mike Irvin was the ideal WR for Aikman.

The opposite of a good QB/WR fit would have been if Dez and Aikman had played in the same time frame during the Jimmy era, Aikman would have demanded that Jimmy ship Dez out after about 2 practices.

These guys once again sit back and let their "prized free agent" get signed by another team. Does this not look awfully similar to the Sammy Watkins deal last year? They got "outbidded" by the Chiefs.....even though years past no one outbids Jerry. He gets who he wants. So before they even release a statement on Earl signing with someone else........I'm calling crap on it because I already know what they will say.

"We were all in on Earl...but the Ravens outbidded us". Its crap. You don't enter free agency with the approach of going all in on one guy or not signing anyone at all. This organization believes in building through the draft not because its smart but because its cheap. Being cheap for what though? You won't even re-sign your premiere players.

The biggest issue last year was 1T, which they actually filled well for a stick of gum.

If they actually just went out and got a safety instead of fixating on ET, good safeties were to be had for a couple of sticks of gum

Playing for value, we would have had another safety cheap. We would have been better.

But woohoo, we went wild and got Cooper! Yay?

I don't think it will be yay when Cooper takes us for a huge contract and we have no pick in the 1st.

You should be happy. They're thinking more like you than me. And it's been screwing us.

If the option is middle of the road free agents that are not mega-expensive but also not cheap, I generally prefer to avoid them and use that money to pay elite players like Amari Cooper.

Many people here keep wanting Safety Tre Boston. The problem is that in a baseball type analogy of Wins Above Replacement, Boston would not show a significant improvement over the current Safeties.

On the other hand Cooper over Hurns as the #1 WR would show an infinite improvement in a WAR type analysis.

My preference is an occasional elite free agent (or trade) and multiple very low cost free agents like DT Woods, OG Sua-Filo, or in 2017 they got very good production from mid season low cost free agent Datone Jones.

Otherwise they end up paying 6M per for a player like WR Hurns vs less then 1M for a guy like DT Woods.

Obviously all fans would like to see an occasional elite free agent added but the Cowboys have their own free agents that require mega-contracts and they should be the priority.

It’s been this way for awhile now. I’m not sure why anyone expected things to change this year.

They’re out here lowballing their own players. People use to complain when JJ was a gambler and blowing his wad, now they’re complaining because he isn’t.

I have no problem with what they’ve done in terms of other teams FA, I have a problem with how we’ve treated our own.

No knock on Dak, Zeke, Coop, but they will surely get their money without issue while Tank who bet on himself and earned his still can’t get a deal done. I think they need to fix their approach with our own guys first.

Seems like a good time to start 2019’s first “The Sky Is Falling” thread.

I seriously thought we'd grab ET. Thing is, though, what he got from the Ravens was way too high. Prefer being us than them, even
though a great safety would really have helped.

I thought Will McClay was the genius behind this roster and Jerrah stays out of it now? Or does McClay only control the draft and Jerrah/Stephen take care of the contracts and FA?

I’ll go with option C. No one knows what the hell is going on or who should get credit for what.

McClay only finds the players. The Joneses handle the money part.

The team with no first round pick believes in building through the draft.

You irrational haters. Gosh.
They are going to find premiere talent in the later rounds. They like their chances at it. They like it so much they are going to rely on scouts and Will McClay but don't like it enough to make McClay GM.....smh.

Well, how does getting outbid for Sammy Watkins look right now, even in hindsight?

Hint: It was the right thing to do to let the Chiefs have him. The chiefs will cut him after this year, as soon as they can cap-wise.

I wish the Cowboys would have signed ET, but wait and see how it plays out.

Yeah they are disrespecting Tank and that's what bothers me more than them not overpaying for Earl.

Just where are the direct quotes of Jerry and/or Stephen claiming Thomas was their "prized free agent"? I've read an awful lot of fans here claim it, but where are the direct quotes from either Jones? I have read direct quotes from both that say their priority is to resign Lawrence, Elliott, Prescott, Cooper and Jones. Haven't read any that said Thomas is their prize free agent signing.

There are plenty of quotes by this front office saying they went all in on Sammy Watkins. We don't have any on Earl YET...but just give them time. They will roll in on how they made them a honest offer.
