There are plenty of quotes by this front office saying they went all in on Sammy Watkins. We don't have any on Earl YET...but just give them time. They will roll in on how they made them a honest offer.

Watkins is old news I was referring to Thomas. There are none! That prize free agent thing is strictly fan generated.

Seriously, unless we're able to get our hands on some talented vets from training camp cuts, what do we really have to be optimistic about for 2019?

Having one quasi-quality draft pick isn't going to do squat.

Keeping the SAME TEAM we had from last year is so idiotic.

Oh, I fully expect the Dak contract to be coming.

Far too soon, and for far too much.

But the Joneses will crow about it like they think they've accomplished something.

Other than looking stupid.

The way this organization is headed, they aren’t paying Dak that much. They will let him play out his deal and franchise him, if he plays adequately. Stephen Jones is cheap..

The main problem is they have no pass rush right now, with Gregory and Irving gone and Zeke wants an extension too. Bell just got 33 million up-front, so Zeke is looking at him and Gurley as reference points.

This season is looking to be a disaster, because there looks to be no defense that is bailing this offense out.

Why this team is resting on their laurels after GETTING PICKED APART BY THE RAMS is beyond me.

No offense but I don’t even think you know for sure. As recently as Jaylon and Jerry’s other pet projects, he (Jerry) was still making some picks.
I am basically saying the same thing as you. McClay finds the players, the Joneses may not always follow his advice. Sort of like what Mayock is doing for the Raiders

It’s not even the same team. Where is the pass rush? DLaw is franchised, but Gregory and Irving aren’t playing..

I'm very much anticipating high end.

Again, while the rest of the league is learning that huge money contracts to quarterbacks is a mistake - see Cousins, Carr, Stafford, and the other top 6 paid quarterbacks that watched the playoffs from home, the Cowboys are rushing to be the very next team to, in fact, make that mistake.

And some fans are already rubber-stamping it as a good thing. It's insane.

Well my stance on Dak is I feel they lucked into him. Which we essentially know they did. They wanted Connor Cook and Paxton Lynch over him.

I have ZERO faith in this organization finding a quarterback. I have none. And being they are so adamant on getting his deal done...they don't have much faith either it seems.

I really think in about 2 or 3 years Dak is probably going to be a top 15 paid qb in this league. I even think Cousins contract won't look as bad in a few years.

But at the end of the day they aren't doing anything with the money anyway. At least sign your own guys.

Irving played only two games last season.

Replacing Gregory will be the only huge void there, assuming we draft a DT.

I hope they do that. Either you get a discount or you let it play out. There's nothing gained rushing into a big contract before you have to.

The defense looks to be getting significantly worse right now, not better. Irving gone, Gregory gone, Lawrence, injured, disgruntled, and holding out. Oh, and their last time out, they all got demolished because your fossil of a defensive line coach let the other team know what the dance card said, and every step involved.

Good point. Even less reason for optimism.

Oh yeah, that's right... If you believe our coaches and FO, Taco is bound to "break out"... Cant wait.

The Cousins contract has proven to be a mistake - after year one. Anyone signing on for that pain deserves what they get.

When all 6 of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league are watching the playoffs? That's not a coincidence, it's a warning.

And it says 'Buyer Beware!'

But you don't have a 1st round pick so how on earth does Stephen play on building through the draft? IT wouldn't shock me if they pull a 2009 and just trade down. This draft can potentially be a disaster.......and they are putting all their eggs into this basket.

Because your assessment is right. Their priority is being cheap. Even if they don’t have a top draft pick, they’ll still say we got value and reference how close we were last year and in 2016.

That’s just over-paying for decent QBs. Dak is average in reality. On the other hand, great QB play at least fields you play-off teams generally even with average rosters and OK defense.

I do agree it’s a mistake and if there was any time to go with a legit QB, it was a couple years back in the SB window we had. Now you simply don’t pay that much, unless you get a sure fire talent.

Mahomes sells seats though and you open up the wallet for him. But Mahomes seems to be a generational talent.

That’s because, like you said, we had Gregory and we had the expectation Irving would be back. Those guys are beasts and our draft targeted Taco...

Now we’ve got to play Taco significant minutes and with DLaw, who knows, and also look for another DE...

That's grossly overpaying for average quarterbacks, and then paying the price for it.

Again, its not a coincidence that the top 6 paid guys watched from home.

Learn from that and don't make the same mistake.

Yet we've had one of the best rosters in the league over that span. Remember when everyone was patting the Giants on the back for all the money they paid Veron and Snacks and Jenkins? How did that work out for them?
And a ton of Superbowls to show for it!!! Errr... wait I meant Playoff success!!! No...? Uhhh... What do they play for?

Yeah I honestly think its more coincidence than fact. The teams that draft well are the ones who are contending. I'm not sure what was expected of Cousins in year one going from a completely different offense in Washington to the Vikings.
