? Plenty of people in America don’t play in the NFL and live perfectly fine lives. Pretty sure he will find a way to survive, good start by avoiding depression and a stressor in his life.

He's got to adjust to living on less and he's got to not let drugs interfere with whatever work he does. He didn't show he could do either while in the league; he wasn't handling his money well from all indications and he chose to stay on drugs over doing his job. I understand that he's saying he didn't like his job, but how is he going to like his job when he's making minimum wage and can't afford the lifestyle he's used to living (since he really couldn't before)?

I give him 10-15 years and then he will be a story on 60 minutes if anyone still remembers his name.

Guys can play 15 years professionally and still end up messed up. There is a former NHL Player, Joe Murphy former 1st round pick who played 15 years and made millions and ended up homeless in Northern Ontario. He suffers from, depression...repeated blows to the head are not good for depression, sometimes that can worsen depression, the league is denying him the one substance he feels works best for him. And what does that useless player's union do to help people like him, nothing, they throw their arms up in the air? This policy needs to change. Research shows cannabis helps with depression and brain injuries...hey what do researchers know, they are not lawyers who are now the most overpaid man in sports.

I was going to like your post but ultimately decided it would be inappropriate to issue a "like" for such a sad thing. Irving, along with Randy Gregory, could very well have similar outcomes because it appears they're on the same path. Hope I'm wrong.
not a problem. thanks for the thought. i'm not much of an expert on drugs and their illicit usage, but one thing I know for sure is that drug users tend to lie a lot. I don't doubt what the op said, but I know drug users are, as a whole, a manipulative group.

dude sounds like a bum. Love him when he played but I hope he finds purpose in life and no partying and smoking all day isn't what I'm talking about. Seeing his tendencies and hearing about it from teenage years followed by saying he was depressed, yeah he seems to be the type that would be, his actions aren't helping. He might enjoy life if he spent his time helping others, but I'm not sure he would find out.

No. Not good for him. If he's already selling his cars, which means he's running out of money. He's unskilled and uneducated. If he's not going to work a job that he hates for $Millions, he's not going to work a job he hates that pays $Minimum Wage. Which means, he's going to eventually go back to selling drugs. And we all know where that leads... the prison or the morgue. So no, not good for him.
Well, its nice to make assumptions and all. I have a friend who sells "drugs" and he makes really good money. The only reason I say drugs is cause each state interprets marijuana laws different. Is it football player money good? No its not at all, but he says his soul os satisfied, he helps people with cancer amd other illnesses.

Cool story, if he goes back to his teen and college days he will end up with Sam Hurd

Hope the best for him but he isn’t anyone I will keep track of now that he isn’t a cowboy
I'm sure they knew, but did you see what he did on the field without even trying?

I apologize for not wanting to trade him last offseason. Too bad we lost such a talent without any form of compensation. At least hes being honest about his intentions now.

And some were afraid we would lose him because we put a second round tender on him. Like I said at the time, that tender was bait that the Cowboys were hoping someone would take. Too bad they didn't snag him, we could have sure used that 2nd round pick. The Cowboys FO KNEW what they were doing.

today from LAX to DFW. Flew out to watch the Spence vs Mikey fight. David is a social butterfly. Literally talked to him the entire flight. I wanted to pick his brain. Here are some of the things we discussed:

*David Irving says he sold drugs as a teen and it continued while in college and made a lot of money.

* he mentioned multiple times that he’s going to the “after parties” after the fight. but didn’t seem to care about the fight itself.

* he’d spend the offseasons in Mexico (Monterrey)because apparently the NFL cannot drug test you if you’re out of the country.

*He hates football and never liked playing it but his parents would make him because he was great at it. His dad was a marine and coached him hard. But David said multiple times he hated playing football.

* he’s been addicted to Xanax multiple times and weed helped him get off.

* he said he’s been depressed for 2 years and since quitting football he’s the happiest he’s ever been.

* he owns 5 cars but doesn’t own a house. He said he has to sell off some of his cars.

* He said Jerry Jones always showed him love and really tried to help him out. Didn’t like Garrett and said he’s like a Boy Scout leader.

* as soon as we landed he called his ride and asked him if he had “his blunts”. I am not joking.

In closing he’s such a bright guy. Very intellectual, intelligent. I told him the 2016 game@ GB was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen a DL play. He appreciated it reiterated that he didn’t really like playing it at all. I ended telling him that I do respect you for walking away from something if you don’t love it, do what makes you happy.

Just thought I’d share.

This is great. Thanks for sharing. My prediction stands- this guy earns a felony arrest in less than 18 months.

I was on a flight with Seth Rollins from DFW to Moline, IL last September. He was in 1st class and didn't say a word to me. It was still a better conversation than would have been listening to Irving talk about how he hated playing for my favorite team, and the game of football. See ya, loser!!

Yup, I argued we wouldn't replace his talent/production with a 2nd round pick. Turns out we could have lol. I remember some being attacked for calling him a knucklehead.

It's his life.
If he hates football, do something else.
The question is, will he find something he likes that will earn a living once he burns through his cash?
I wish the guy well

You know what? We all have to do things we don't like, and often it's our jobs. Man up for a couple years, make enough to retire on, and then go w/ your extreme pot addiction. His actions scream of being not all that bright. Quit making excuses for being worthless.

Live and let live. .....

What a great idea!

I just wish we could convince all the people stealing everything that's not nailed down because they're strung out on something and have run out of money to pay for it to do the same .... you know.... and the ones that have created the situation where I can't buy certain cough medicines over the counter because they have to be under lock and key...... oh... and the guys down in Mexico that are massacring a large section of the population to gain control over the means to produce and distribute drugs.... yeah, those guys to.
