Afternoon Pops and friends. Could we all have a moment of silence in remembrance of RGV's 25' Husky tape measure?...…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Thank you.
Morning, Pops, and all you nice people. I hauled and stacked almost 2 tons (one pallet) of limestone blocks yesterday for the water wall and pond I'm building. A few days ago I set a personal best and likely world record by getting in and out of Costco for less than $10. Y'all have a great day.
I would love to see the water wall and pond but I'm not willing to deal with all that limestone. WOAH! Costco sells stuff under $10? That's unbelievable!
Getting some rain last night and this morning, which is surprising, because I spread Grub-ex over my while yard in anticipation of the rain helping me out, so I wouldn't have to run my well dry, watering it. I was about 50% certain the rain would miss my house, just out of spite. I guess those flowers I gave Mother Nature won her over.
You have to dance around the yard nekkid to get it to rain when you want it to.

Gramma, Sir Paul came to see me for my birthday 3 years ago. It was so sweet of him to remember.

Poor ABQ, this is the third time in my count of you watching Moana. You need to get some more Disney or Pixar animation for your own sanity.

Good morning Pops and yardbirds. All of this talk about yard work, flowers and insects has made me feel guilty about being such a yard lout. So, I have decided to turn over a new leaf, a yardpun. I will no longer read posts about that.
So much for hydroponics inspiring you to branch out.

My yard is looking pretty good, RGV. Stay on top of that orange tree. It must be treasured. I'm still doing stuff in the freaking yard but the weather has taken a merciful turn this week. Once I get this finished, I hope to avoid it for years to come.

Have a great Tuesday everyone.

If I danced nekkid in my yard, that would definitely work. My neighbors would spray me with their garden hoses, trying to chase me back inside.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. Happy hump day! I plan to build a small retaining wall 14' long and 1' high and haul in a yard or two of top soil to fill in behind it today. I was going to play golf with my buddies today but our course is hosting a tournament so I might as well do something productive. I had a very touching moment yesterday. Two of my buddies reached out to me, concerned that something bad might have happened to me. Apparently they had both tried to reach me but my cell phone didn't notify me I had missed calls. Now, we had just played golf last Friday so it's not like I had been MIA for weeks. Anyway, it made me feel special. Enjoy your day, everyone.

Morning Pops and Humpers!

Just made the 9 a.m. ferry by 20 seconds, which is cutting it close, when you figure I left CT at 3, drove to Southampton, NY (which took more than four hours, rather than the typical 3 ,d to traffic), unloaded 2000 board feet of lumber, then drove to the ferry terminal, foolishly allowing the navigation on my phone to tell me the best route, which naturally dumped me in the construction zone.

It's pretty stressful to have a 9 a.m. reservation, and everything tries to prevent you from being on time.

Time for a nap.

Reminds me of the story about Harry.

George gets home two hours late form the golf course and is obviously upset as his wife asked him why he was late.
"We're on the 10th tee when Harry grabs his chest, lets out a moan and falls down dead from a heart attack. Took us 4 hours to play the backside, hit a shot and drag ole Harry, hit a shot and drag ole Harry".
His wife replied "oh my God, that is horrible".
"Yeah, but I shot my lowest back nIne ever, I'm thinking of taking him back tomorrow".

But that, my friend, surely beats reduced pay. You made me tired with that experience, think I'll need a nap before the cocktail hour. When is the cocktail hour?.....Runny queried. Why, anytime I get up from my nap...….CC responded.

Morning (yes, morning) Pops and friends. It's far too early for me to wrap my fuzzy brain around the comments so far. Glad you're ok, Leon. Glad you made the ferry, Runny. Good luck with George and Harry, Coach. I've got to meet a new doctor today. I really don't want an entourage of doctors but these critters all specialize and as one of their nurses said "He doesn't have a duck in that fight".

Have a good hump day everyone.

I am approaching a doc for everything territory. I may get a gynecologist just to fill that slot in. I wouldn't necessarily go to see her, oh yes, it would be a her, don't like a man looking at my private parts. And a female gynecologist probably gets bored looking at the same thing over and over and might appreciate the break.

The one blessing in this is that I stay within the group, Baylor Scott White, since I was Baylor in Dallas. I do not have to repeat or remember all of the meds and supplements because they're in the system along with my history.

The last doc I met, a Podiatrist, was looking over the cyberchart and asked me "are you still taking about 21 alcoholic drinks a week"? I replied "yes but I am working on getting that average up and see the word "about" in a very fluid sense". Then, he has to go into the alcohol is not good for you. I just said "doc, the longer I live, the less I like it and at least this gives me a break from the futility of it all". Well, I set off the "suicide watch alarm" and had to further explain. I said "look on my chart and count the new docs and meds just since I moved down here and tell me aging is fun. If I was going to off myself, I wouldn't have so many damned docs". All of this with a Podiatrist, I think he was bored with the bottom of the body.

But, I have met some pretty good docs down here and do not feel the need to go to the city for treatment. But I agree with you, my dear, it is a pain breaking in a new doc and getting them used to your habits. But with your sense of humor, I find that to be a nice icebreaker as they don't get that as much, the fear and serious factor comes into play too much. Need to loosen them up some and suicide comments to a Podiatrist is a good way to start.

Hope this isn't something serious and I've been goofing around but it is at those times I find my goofy button so large and easy to reach. Good thoughts for good news.

Thanks for the well wishes, it's just breaking in a new primary care doctor. The one doctor I was seeing had been on me for 9 years to find a primary care doctor. I was going to be so proud to tell him I'd gotten one, but he died before I could. My previous doctor was 45 minutes away, ready to pop me with as many shots as they could dole out in one day and only worked mornings. A wonderful doctor that's not a good time match for me. This way, I can stay in my zip code. I just hope she doesn't want to cure me of everything that ails me because ignorance really can be bliss.

If I ever dance nekkid to make it rain, I will have already lost my mind and forget you wanted to observe.

Good afternoon Pops and Zoner Friends,

We spent most of the day in the "yard" - more on that later - and didn't have time to catch my daily dose of "Morning Pops" until now.

For quite some time, this thread has started my day with a smile and, more often than not, thoughts about life. One thing I have concluded is that it would be a real pleasure, if not down right entertaining, to share a meal, a few good bottles of wine and swap lies.. er, stories with all if you - well, most of you.

I was definitely one of those folks that "lived to work". I enjoyed my profession (oil and gas) and found that I gravitated to the third world or developing countries - just seemed to add spice to life. When the time seemed ripe to retire, I naturally had concerns. Surprisingly, the only thing I really missed was the comraderie.

In that regard, this forum has filled the gap with virtual friends.

Now back to the yard. The property we built our dream retirement homes is about 10 acres and is covered in Ponderosa pines, blue spruce and fir trees. It also has an appreciable amount of scrub oak - the Colorado equivalent of Texas mesquite, non-indigenous, pervasive species of oak. We are systematically trying to remove dense areas of scrub oak to open up the forest and allow the fir and spruce space. Anyway, we broke out the chain saws and attacked the oak. About mid-way through the morning, I needed a break and, in an attempt to entertain myself, tried to recreate Duelling Banjos from Deliverance with my chain saw. My wife was not amused... I am now grounded.

:)
