Good morning Pops and friends of all breeds, sizes and types. I am venturing forth again upon the mighty waters of Lake LBJ in hopes that it's calmer today. I am not a lake terrain expert but last week when I went out, it was much rougher and my boat is 23', not a small craft. I came back in early and didn't reach my destination, two new bars in the Kingsland area and a newly formed sand bar. I am assuming the sand bar does not have libations but since I didn't reach it, no reason to be negative.

I am at the crossroads with boat ownership as it has become more of a "I am paying the storage fee, I really should go out more" instead of having fun. I find myself looking at the empty first mate's chair and thinking how much fun it could be and I find it makes me sadder than giving me the pleasure it should be, after all, it is a pleasure craft.

The reason I got one was to give myself an excuse of being in the golf paradise of Texas. I really don't know why I decided to live here, I do not remotely fit in with the very people I have avoided all of my life, the rich and entitled that have their Range Rovers down here and the good vehicles at home. On Memorial day, I saw 3 Bentley's and 2 Roller's go down the boulevard within two hours and that's not a usual Texas sight.

I spent a great deal of my childhood between the country club people of West Little Rock with their elitism, ignorance and prejudice and the down to earth real people in my grandparents' little grocery store neighborhood in East Little Rock (Little Rock was polarized geographically just like Memphis), a real melting pot of people that didn't know they were supposed to treat others as servants and underlings. Where I live now so reminds me of those country club people only their ignorance and prejudices have grown and they are more entitled and want "their America".

Sorry for going off like this and that's not my usual but I overheard a conversation yesterday that set me on edge and I felt like packing up and getting the hell out. I still haven't decided about the boat or even living here. I've been here 3 years and still have the majority of things to hang on the wall in boxes. I don't put those up and this isn't home. It's a very odd feeling not fitting in and not wanting to and it makes me feel more like a recluse.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. Make someone happy today.
That should be a song. "Make someone happy, just make one someone happy" should be the way to start and maybe have someone sing it without a singing voice, like, say, Jimmy Durante? I never got him when I was a kid but later found out he was beloved in the entertainment biz for being such a great person and a great vaudevillian. Talk about a great life. Ever hear the great ones talk about those days and just being backstage with each other? I could soak some of that up.

Morning Pops and Pals!

It's about 55° and rainy today. I'm thinking about putting a jacket on, but it's mid June, and I'm trying hard to shed the restrictive layers. It's my favorite time of year, and I hate wearing more clothes than are necessary to avoid a fine and laughter.

Good afternoon Pops. You must have been quite a guy. I tip my cap to you.

Good afternoon friends. Today is Cosco day. I doubt we will escape with less than $10. My mom and I are waiting in the parking lot while the Mrs is inside shopping. Oh Lawdy! If I see her coming out with the items using a forklift, I’ll know it didn’t go well..

My mom and I are jamming to mariachi music, her favorite..

Have a great day everyone. Enjoy the little stuff..

Afternoon Pops and friends. I tried my sense of humor at the new doctor's office and scared a nurse. Live and learn. The doctor allowed me to escape the building with a promise to get blood work done.... later. HA HA HA!!!

To Coach: A bad day on the lake is a thousand times better than a good day working in the yard. Xelda 2019

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning Pops and everyone.

Friday. Finally. This was a really strange week on many levels and I'm so glad it's over! More on that another time.

Runny... never had a desire to visit New York or the boroughs. You're just confirming that thought. I don't like that many people being around and on tv it looks just too crowded for my taste. No thank you. I think I'm glad I don't have a smellavision.

Xel, believe me I totally get the whole "new doc" thing. Time for me to start psyching myself up for my next follow up visit to Iowa City. Some day I may just decide I'm done going. Doing this for the rest of my life doesn't sound reasonable to me anymore. It's a teaching hospital too and I never know when I go out of I'll have a new doc or staff. Makes it really tough to get comfortable with the providers.

RGV, we just got a Costco here earlier this year. I don't see me ever going. We have a Sam's Club also but I'm just one person so it doesn't seem like buying in bulk is wise. I don't eat enough anymore to keep up with the expiration dates, although I do have my boss pick me up the gigantor package of toilet paper once a year. With my visits to Virginia and me spending all day at the office I can usually make it last for a good long time:D, and for $20, it's budget friendly too:rolleyes:.

CC, this comment "It's a very odd feeling not fitting in and not wanting to and it makes me feel more like a recluse." is me. Work, home (and I live alone), and even in the family. I feel most times people keep me around because they need me to do something for their benefit. That's kind of a crappy feeling, you know? Lucky for me I have this site and you and the others to make me laugh and keep me going.

Not forgetting the rest of you, but I just realized I blew my grand plan to be up early and ready to go ahead of schedule this morning by jumping on here... but that's okay. Good company:).

Plans to go visit my dad at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery this weekend for Papa's Day... sure do miss being able to just go chill with him.

Happy Fathers Day weekend to all you proud papas out there too. Enjoy!

Have a great Friday everyone.

Morning Pops and Happy Father's Day weekend to all the Pops. 10 years since mine's gone and I still don't think I told him how much I loved him enough or that he was right so many times and I couldn't see past my stubbornness. You never really understand how much you want to prevent your kids from making mistakes until you have one and are responsible for them. And that "I'll never be like him" thing, wrong about that too.

They're delivering my new grill today as my present to myself. Assembly and delivery was part of the deal and in my case not an option. I think the Baton Rouge FD keeps tabs on my whereabouts and notifies the ones where I am that under no circumstances should this person assemble and ignite a gas grill. Probably shouldn't operate one without supervision. Sheeesh, blow one grill up and endanger a subdivision and you're labelled a pyro for life.

Jan, you are far too good a person to look at yourself through others' eyes. Doing something for someone else's benefit sounds just like you and you should feel great about yourself. More of us should live our lives like that.

I have felt the opposite of that and have felt useless, adrift with no purpose and realized where I was, on the edge of the Pity Pit. And even being on the edge is a precarious place to be because the sides are slippery and it's so much harder to climb out once one walks in and that's what I've done, just walked right on in, didn't even fall in.

CC's Word of the Day for himself and his friends is AWARE. Be aware of your feelings at all times and from whence they come and also be aware that others are not aware of how they are making you feel. They don't do that on purpose, they value you, they're just not as aware of that all the time as they should be. And, unfortunately, it takes the absence of someone to remind us of what they did for us....just by being there sometimes. Jan, they don't just keep you around to do something for their benefit, the benefit is having you around. They're just not aware of that all the time to remind themselves.

CC, mine's been gone 11 years now and not a day goes by that I don't miss him terribly.
Yes, these day's celebrating Mothers and Fathers when you have neither can be tough, just like Birthdays and Anniversaries of our significant others, that you and I share. We do have the memories but that's little comfort so I just try and divert my thinking. It helps when one is as scatterbrained with a stream of consciousness like mine. Doesn't take me long to forget what I didn't want to remember.

Good Pops and Zoner Friends.

I didn't fully appreciate my dad until several years after he passed away. Growing up, I always viewed him as a "hard" man, never mean, but certainly set in his ways and often, difficult to communicate with. The most important life lessons I learned from him was the value of a strong work ethic, that a promise made was a promise kept and the importance of family... Pretty valuable lessons in the scheme of things.

Love nothing better than to spend a few hours fishing or grilling with him.

Oh, and CC, I got my new grill yesterday as well - a Weber Genesis. Needless to say, I took it for an extended test drive last night... A lot of left-overs in the fridge

:)
Congrats, got one coming today, the E-335 model. I saw this cool test for hot spots to get to know your grill. Get a cheap loaf of white bread and lay them like a blanket on the cooking grates, after preheating, and then turn them over after they get toasty on the bottom and look for the darker spots, those are your hot spots.

So jealous of you guys and gals with your grills... Fire code in my building won't permit us to have a grill on the deck.:(
If they knew my history, they would have a CC fire code here.

I saw an apartment complex in Dallas burned to the ground because of a gas grill left unattended. So, I get their concerns. Some have restrictions against people even smoking on the decks and patios.

They've got this indoor grill now that is just as good as a gas grill because the gas doesn't really impart any flavor. I forget what it's called but the reviews I saw were very good and that was from people that couldn't have grills at their residences. Unless one uses smoke on a gas grill, it's nothing more than an outdoor oven but when it's 100+ here, no one wants to fire up the indoor oven.
