Why draft a back 4th overall if you’re not willing to pay him?

All this handwringing over paying a 24 year old running back is ludicrous considering they spent a top 5 pick on him just a few seasons ago. All he’s done in 3 seasons is justify his draft position, and now we’re not willing to pay a back because of our philosophy? How does that make any sense?

They look like morons for taking him 4th overall if they’re not willing to pay him.

We are, and have been. He's still under contract. 38 mil is what he'll be getting. And if we franchise him twice, he'll make over 70 mil. So, he is already getting paid quite handsomely.

As has been iterated on here many times over and over, the Zeke pick was a Romo-friendly pick. Trying to replicate/exceed on 2014 Murray and win with the core we had before Romo broke his back for good.
More like a "Oh crapp, maybe we do need a decent RB" pick.

they have him for 2 more years under contract. They dont need to pay him right now. Zeke has ZERO leverage IMO, regardless of all those saying Zeke has the leverage.

Now when his contract is coming up, and they dont sign him then.... then come back and talk to me about this topic. Until then, they are stupid if they do pay him.

Randle was a very talented RB (better and less injury prone than Murray) but his baggage got in the way... he was more Josh Brent/Greg Hardy than Irving or Gregory, sadly.

Simple: 5 years of control, his prime years on a rookie deal for an elite player. Belichik dream scenario.
Belichick dream scenario would be to draft a shutdown CB (his favorite position) with that pick... [hmm, Ramsey] and take a RB in the 3rd round, run him to death, possibly tag him once and let him walk the next year for a 3rd round comp pick.

They’re willing to pay him, just not two years early. Name ONE other first round pick holding out for a new contract from that class. I’ll await your answer.

Also I don't think this has been said or ever will be, but RBs need the preseason but not training camp. Especially an elite one like Zeke.

They have already said the team and the agent aren't that far apart, I think its pretty likely that Zeke would rather train on his own in Cabo than do training camp. And the team is probably fine knowing he has a much smaller risk of injury. I think this is much more likely an excuse to avoid camp than any real butthurtishness on the part of Zeke or his agent.

Why would they let him force their hand if he still has two years left? If he's hell bent on holding out; I say we start the season without him and see what we get.
*I'm liking the thought of "seeing what we get" in the extraction of cash from his not so fat wallet anymore, in the full imposition of fines he's incurred due to STUPIDITY:lmao2:

Don't buy it lol. He paid for gilmore because they dont automatically draft stud corners. They crapshoot just like everyone else, some workout some dont.

Belly just took Michel in the 1st.

Belly values the RB position higher than most. However, he knows what's important in a RB, and also understands that overpaying players leads to playoff losses.

Is it just me or didn’t they agree to pay him for five years when they drafted him number 4? Is it just me, or did he sign that agreement, take their money, break the agreement, agree to the new terms, take their money again, and now wants to break it again. Confusing right?

The bottom line is Zeke signed a contract. He’s the dummy who went and made himself an unmarketable product. He could be the face of the worlds most valuable sports franchise. How much would that be worth? He screwed that up. Not Jerry, not Dak, not the press, and not his agent. Ezekiel Elliot put himself in stupid positions, and showed the world his judgement is horrible and now he wants more money and can’t get it because he can’t be marketed such as guys like Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Marcus Allen, or Beast Mode. This would be a non issue if Zeke wasn’t a typical D1 meathead who has felt self entitled ever since grade school because of what he can do with a football in his hands. Now it’s a make or break moment in his life and he’s choosing a losing strategy. Even if he gets paid by JJ, he will lose fans. Another sign of poor judgment. #21 should be so stacked with endorsements that he doesn’t care about his contract. He needs to man up, and take a reasonable offer before he ends up setting out of football for the next 4 years...

All a draft pick buys you is the first rookie contract. Anything you sign after that is a separate and unrelated deal IMO.

Teams can let a guy walk after his first contract and still have it be considered a good draft pick. Look at Khalil Mack for example.

I'm still trying, but it's getting tougher to like EZ.
