I highly doubt Aikman would quit in his 7th year because of an ankle sprain. And I am sure he wouldnt do it two weeks before the season began.

Aikman is better than Luck.
probably not, but its not just the ankle sprain, its the concussions (yes, Aikman had a few too), the lacerated Kidney, the riped Labrum in the shoulder and now, the high ankle sprain.

this is the Colts GM who drafted him and only drafted 3 OL in 3 years not in the 7th round. He got beat up pretty bad for three years.

Don’t really see why Troy is so triggered. Gottlieb isn’t saying Luck doesn’t have the right to retire. He’s just saying that this is a very 2019 thing that we’re witnessing.

He’s attacking a generation and calling them soft

Luck has his flaws, it’s not soft

I actually think Doug has a point too tho. Didn't Luck owe it to his employer to at least give them an idea in advance that he was thinking about retirement before 2 weeks til kick off? Aikman is right too.

.....he let them know over 2 weeks ago. This is confirmed. He told the front office and coaching staff.

And he didn’t have the ankle/calf issue months ago. And that wasn’t the point the guy was making anyways, he was calling him soft.

Which even that is totally false. Superstars have been retiring early for decades - Sanders, Johnson. It didn't just start. Either way you go his hot take is hot garbage. Dude missed being a millennial by like 4 years, guess that qualifies him to trash superstar athletes.

I’m all for ripping millennials most of the time (let’s face it, as a generation they’ve earned it) but I back Aikman on this one.

My only concern is the timing of Luck’s decision and how it could’ve been handled differently.

Opposed to all the crap boomers did to the west and the debt they caused, or the nihilism of Gen X.

Let’s rip the smartest generation because they came of age during a recession and BS war...

People that say **** like 'millennial have earned it' don't even deserve to be dignified with a response. What a moron.
Yep..I usually respond with that when someone makes a huge stereotype like that. As a Gen Xer, our parents gave us a hard time for playing Nintendo all day, 'in my day we used to play outside' lol

To me the timing is the only thing to question Luck on. It leaves the Colts in a lurch for the season without any opportunity to find a replacement.

No that's not dramatic. When a guy says he's retiring and he's followed by BOOS? You do that to scum. Luck has been nothing but a professional there.

I'm not even a Luck fan. I usually wouldn't even comment on these affairs of another team but it really disturbs me the way fans have treated him in the past 24 hours. Football already walks a thin line when it comes to common decency. I thought there was a certain unwritten code though. A code among fans and players that you will not be booed if you are walking from the game. To me that's like celebrating a injury which does happen and its disgusting. Its sick. And this Luck situation is a quick reminder how sick people are when it comes to their football being disrupted.

And if that's how the Colts chose to remember him? Shame on them because they have NO IDEA what he had to go through to even be able to suit up last year.

He got booed because he quit out of the blue. IF your going to retire, do it in the offseason. Not 2 weeks before the season starts.

Has nothing to do with last year. Its all about how he did it................right now.

I love it. The irony is that Gottlieb's behavior suggests he is desperate to win over millennial fans. Guy is 43 and he acts and writes like he is 23. It must be exhausting for media types to try to stay fresh and hip 24/7 these days. I also never understand how these guys even have jobs. I was at a fairly large party last night and we were all talking about Gottleib. Had to be 15 of us. Everyone hated the guy. Maybe this finally sinks him.

You just explained why people like this have the jobs they do. It’s the same reason Skip Bayless has a job. They are opinionated and like to stir the pot. If they didn’t rub people the wrong way at times, they wouldn’t have much of a radio show

You are missing the point - I don't watch DG. Don't listen to DG. Now I will actively choose to never watch or listen to him. Despite the brief uptick in his twitter account activity this comment is going to see him lose many regular listeners. He has been exposed as a 100% azzhat.

I certainly do not believe that I am missing the point. You may never listen to him, but one individual never speaks for everyone. I highly doubt FS1 was, in any way, upset with him for his comment. Some people are drawn to controversy… And controversial people. Some people like to listen Just because they can’t believe someone would say something so stupid.

You are working off the assumption that everyone will view it as you do.

That is the issue. The timing and how he handled it.

Shouldn’t matter how he did it. You can’t tel someone when they should or shouldn’t feel like retiring. And it also seems it wasn’t out of the blue. Someone leaked it to Schefter and he had to jump in front of it.

While I’m 100% on Luck’s side on this, that’s not an apt comparison. Players get cut for the benefit of the team. The GM’s, owners, and GM-owners (;)) aren’t doing it out of spite or personal satisfaction.

Andrew is not retiring for benefit of the team, he’s doing it strictly for personal reasons. This is why fans are okay with owners doing it, but upset with Andrew... however misguided that disappointment is.

Owners aren't going to look out for a players long term health interests. Players have to do it for themselves. And owners legit cut guys in the middle of the season. It doesn't matter why. Anyone can come up with justification, the fact is they do it.

More players should be stepping away before they're long term health is tremendously impacted. I have no issues at all with why, how or when Luck made his decision.
