McGovern or Williams aren't going to bring any value until they have proven they can play at this level. Sometimes it takes lineman a few years to develop especially when you draft ta 21 year old kid and throw him up against 300lb plus men.

I don't know what we have in Williams yet, but I don't see him as a starting left tackle in the NFL..

Lael Collins resigning (on a team friendly deal) really surprised me. So what happens with our OL next year? Has any team ever had six starting OL where the odd man out was a former 2nd round pick?

The plan was for McGovern to start at OG and Conner Williams to replace Collins at RT. So what do you do now?

Make Williams a super sub backing up multiple positions? Trade McGovern? Keep Williams on the bench and groom him to replace Tyron Smith down the line?

IMO the Super Sub plan is the way to go.

I think this says that your plan was not THE actual plan.

Nothing wrong with a 3rd rounder being your C-G backup. Important position and we won't be able to keep Looney.

I wonder what Zeke thinks about this Oline. Would Zeke prefer Connor to be a super sub?

That was the expectation. Every beat writer expected Collins to leave for a big FA deal and the team gave Williams reps at RT in training camp. There is a reason all the news articles describe the Collins extension as "surprising".

There was no reason to believe Williams was moving to RT. All speculation

can't say that I know the penultimate plan, but it's nice to know the front office is planning ahead for contingencies. chance favors the prepared mind.

I never saw it that way. I thought the cowboys would be foolish to just let a top rt walk. the bigger concern to me is that tyron smith has missed multiple games the past few seasons due to back injuries and I think that's the reason for Williams and McGovern being on the team. chaz green left a more indelible impression on the fo than many realize. you can't put all your eggs in one basket.

The problem is he's not super, and makes too much to be a reserve/backup.

I think we have to see what we've got in McGovern before we can begin to formulate any long term plans. His offseason has been a washout to this point.

Agree, but it all comes down to the contract. I wanted DeMarco Murray back right up until the Eagles offered him a crazy contract. I think the expectation was that Collins would get a huge contract in FA, he very likely left money on the table with the extension he signed today.

Williams said himself that the team has mentioned possibly moving to tackle eventually.

Well, sure. But that's only if you think Conner Williams knows what is going on with Conner Williams.

RING OF HONOR BABY!!!

Sure, but OL rarely do anything in their rookie years anyway. Dallas had a high 2nd round grade on McGovern (same as Frederick) and their draft evaluations have been excellent lately so I give them the benefit of the doubt.

Sure, that's the expectation. But it also wasn't expected that he would miss virtually everything during the offseason work. It's one thing to have a rookie sit back and learn. It's another for them to be unable to do anything. My point is that it's been a setback to what they had hoped for. Putting the kid on IR after he missed virtually the whole offseason was never the plan and delays any kind of evaluations there.

who's plan?

edit: nvm, i see you answered it. but we have no idea if that source is accurate or even if they meant RT. They maybe have him playing LG to move him to LT if Tyron's play drops. So I still say we don't know if that was ever the plan.

Its was only fans speculating that thought Conner was going to replace Collins.

What this tells me is they are preparing for the departure of Smith.
