And I haven't read a single criticism of Marc Colombo yet.

Nope. He seems to skate by.

One thing I do have to give him credit for however is La'el Collins performance. Paul Alexander's goofy teachings had that kid all screwed up, and many (self included) thinking a move to guard was necessary. Under Colombo, he's having arguably a Pro Bowl caliber year (though RT's seldom get in anyway).

But there's little physicality and drive off the ball from the unit as a whole. They're nowhere close to the bullies they once were.

Correct. However, when you're supposed to have the best OL in the league you should dictate to the defense not the other way around.

That group is very overrated.
Yep

And apparently beat up with lingering injuries.

Last week Ezekiel Elliott ran for 47 yards. Against Detroit, he had 45 yards. “At the end of the day, we’ve got the highest paid runner and a really, really good offensive line, that draws attention,” coordinator Kellen Moore said. “Whether it eventually flips or impacts in other ways as we continue to throw it, we’ll keep doing what we do. I think for myself, hey, I’ve got to find different ways. Maybe we need to approach it a little bit differently from a run game perspective.”

Dancing his way around the question, eh? Just like his owner and HC. At least he’s sighting willing to change at the end there...
He simply stated the facts. Next week will be a good test of how well he changes things to help the running game.

There’s only one coach who receives criticism. The rest basically skate free. I’m sure there will be some scapegoats at seasons end like Linehan last year.

It will be interesting to see how bad Collins was hurt. We could be down 2OL and Martin still nursing his ailments , Frederick not himself and who knows if Smith is 100%. Our OL is a shell of its dominating force a couple years ago.

I think our OL is a bigger story than most are making it. Schemes might be part of it. We need to get Elliott more in space instead of always up the middle.

They are still getting it done in pass protection but their run-blocking has been shoddy.

Zeke may not be getting big yardage but he is the reason Dak is.
Opposing teams are committed to stopping Zeke, leaving Dak more time and room to pass.
Anyone who thinks Dak is doing this on his own is kidding themselves.

Based on pass protection, there is nothing wrong with the line. However, the run blocking scheme is flawed. Imo, needs to be man on man, smash mouth football.

When you’re right, you’re right.

given the amount of high draft picks and massive cap space spent on the offensive line. Anything less then excellent play by them, is not good enough.

What would you say we are doing differently this year in running schemes to be so flawed?

You are absolutely correct! This offensive line is mediocre at best for run blocking and there is no amount of smoke and mirrors that can cover it up. There is simply little or no push by this group of linemen on running plays and it ends up with defensive linemen or linebackers meeting our running backs 1-2 yds in the backfield on a routine basis. Who's fault is it? Well, I think there are plenty of reasons, poor individual play, injuries that are diminishing play, poor coaching and technique, and lack of talent. This, along with the miserably awful defense are the two big stories that will shape the rest of this season. This is not a playoff team, but a middle-of-the-pack team that is overpaid and overhyped by PT. Barnum (Jones) and us fans have to suffer through another lost season.

Who FREEEEEAAAKING cares if we run the ball. We have a top 5 offense, not a problem , in fact we have 99 problems but the O ain’t one..

Too much zone blocking. Zimmer figured it out and gave them new defensive looks. Matt patricia must have studied the vikes game tapes. We just need to adjust or we're going to be seeing a lot of this in our future.

I like what he has done for the passing game, but I think we should bring someone in to help with the running game.
bring in the elder Shanahan as a running game consultant if we are to continue to zone block. Heck the coach of the skins had the o-line playing better.

We can pay whatever we want for coaches right? Bring in the best guy who isn't currently a head coach possible after this year.
