It’s possible but it going to be hard trading a 33-year-old QB who everyone knows is going to be released. Trading for him guarantees acquiring him but with this supposedly being a strong QB draft I think most teams will wait for him to be released.

Have you seen what the QB market will be this year? A third of the league is looking at this position.

A team is going to overpay for Stafford. And he won't be the only QB that will be overpriced in terms of money and draft capital.

Someone may overpay for him in terms of money if he becomes a FA but what I’m saying is I don’t see anyone giving up a first round draft pick for him. From what I hear this is going to be a strong QB draft in April. Several QBs could go high in the draft. They’re sure to be some taken in the second and third round.

all valid points but this team is in trouble and some hard decisions have to be made. the roster and cap is depleted with overpaid players. Of course there are risks with lower rounds to find a QB , but there is an enormous risk in paying dak 40 mil for 5 years . He may tank as usual for players who get the big money , and there won't be enought cap to fix the D and OL.
Regarding stafford , his record under the lions explains why the lions are the worst team in the nfl all the time , so don't put all the blame on him. He is very accurate .
I also think gilbert or dalton could get better , so maybe we don't need stafford. Plus dak's record against winning teams is abysmal as well. probably 6-25 last few years or so.
Then you lighten the roster easily by getting rid of a few like Jaylon and Zeke, but not until next year given their contracts.....if by any chance one of the top 2 tackles falls to us, you make the call and pick them (only offensive players I want in this draft), and you say a big thank you to Tyron Smith who has been injured the past few years......you give Quinn a chance to install his defense as I think a lot of our problems this year on defense was not just due to lack of talent, but due to bad scheme and coaching. you draft defense, defense defense. lets see where we are at the end of 2021 and then you make a run in 2022. by 2021, we can say good bye to Jaylon and Zeke. have better idea of where the defense is and you sign a key FA. I don't want any FAs signed this off season.

plus, those numbers are just numbers. we can manage the cap hit. Mahomes got a 10 year 500M contract, is his cap hit 50m this year? that would be 25% of their cap and next year 33% of their cap and they are in the superbowl and probably favorites next year again.

Stafford is not accurate as he throws a lot of interceptions and his completion percentage is not that impressive. I think Dalton is done, finnito, caput, should not be on our roster next year as he sucked, sucked sucked.

and you just said, Dak's recor against winning teams is abysmal, yet Stafford has a 25M cap number and his record is 7-52 against teams with a winning record....that include the three years his team made the playoffs in 10 years...

and now, he is injury prone. two years in a row, with back problems...

if stafford is your idea of getting better, I rather just tank it, cut everyone and rebuild from scratch like Jax.

He’s 33 but still more talented than dak. He has a top 4 arm. He’s locked up for two years. He’d make less than dak will make in one year. He’d fully utilize cooper and lamb. I hope Jerry does it. He’d upgrade and save money.
Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell had top 2 arms … just saying. :)

You may be right and Stafford is no longer able . Am not sure he is the best QB option .
Building from scratch is a valid strategy but jerry cannot fathom it and wants to win now . This is why he did not have the team tank .

“more talented than Dak “
Except in stats or wins or anything else , Dak destroys him in QB rating at almost 10 points higher ( like way better at 97 to 87) and in win percentage of 59% to 44% . So if you are not using stats or wins , how is Stafford better than Dak? Because you say so?

I'm constantly amazed at the ability people have to convince themselves of things that are so plainly and obviously untrue.

Glad you don’t own the team! You would be trading for a QB who’s going to be released, has a 70-90-1 QB record and has only 3 playoff appearances in 12 seasons with an 0-3 playoff record. You sound like a casual, armchair, beer guzzling fan.
Don’t drink.

Its not they hate DAK...they hate what DAK wants to get paid......40Mil vs 20Mil is a big difference..... especially when you are trying to fix the defense and CAP is expected to go down not up.... I dont think Dallas is in Staffords cards right now, teams like Washington, Carolina, and NE are better positioned for QB.
We mixed the playoffs with dak a few times. We’ve proven that dak only wins when zekes leading the league. Imagine what this team becomes with dak getting 40 million. Stafford at least allows us to improve the defense.

Stafford couldn't even win a wild card game with the 2nd best defense in the league. He is a loser.

yeah, where else can we find a clubfoot guy. At least now when he panics he can run faster now backwards with the clubfoot.

Oh my god! We went 1-3!!!!! What a horrible player Dak was, you know, giving up all those yards and points on defense.
lol. It's amazing that people can't look deeper into the facts. Of course, some would ignore them anyway if they didn't fit the narrative they want to promote. And it's really a bit off base not to say the team was 2-3 with Dak at QB anyway because Dak led drives that resulted in 31 of the Cowboys 37 points in the Giants game.

The biggest question, one that everyone has missed so far, is once he gets here
does Jerry give him Romo's jersey number?... lol
