this what i got

Micah Parsons projects as a dynamic impact player at the NFL level. Parsons, who elected to opt-out of the 2020 college football season, has two seasons of high-impact play on his film resume and his impact was only further affirmed as the Penn State defense fell apart without him on the field for the 2020 season. Parsons, who was a prized recruit as a pass rusher coming out of high school, is still ironing out some of finer points of play processing on the second level but his freakish combination of size and explosiveness allow him to explode and drive into gaps when he sees the play develop and as a result he's a persistent winner of beating ball carriers and blockers to the spot between the tackles. Parsons is an impact player on third downs, which significantly boosts his value to pro teams and masks some of the inexperiences of transitioning to stack linebacker. He's a dynamic blitzer and has the versatility to rush against offensive linemen and claim victories to get home to the quarterback. Parsons has illustrated an incredible level of pure instinct for the game thus far and his ability to navigate the line of scrimmage and rip at the football to create turnovers is best accentuated in an aggressive front defense that will task him with playing forward early in downs and not ask him to make flat footed reads before scraping and flowing to the ball.

Ideal Role: Long-term starting MIKE Linebacker (Could benefit from playing stacked OLB early in career)

Scheme Fit: Multiple Front, Blitz Heavy, Attack Defense

Parsons is Jaylon Smith #2.

Identical clone.

Great straight line speed. Suck at cutting and misdirection. Can get tricked with misdirection plays.

I'll support Parsons, but I hate this pick. Should have traded down a 2nd time and try to get a late 2nd round pick.
How did we not deal with the bears instead?

I like it with the two corners gone. It made sense...Slater @ G would've been meh but good for long term as well. JJ and co. did good considering everything dried up so fast tbh

Turned out to be pretty boring tbh (in a good way) in we got the best front 7 player we could at our pick; just not the cool rush end/3 tech you generally want to see. But I like his personality...him lighting sage was hilarious. You want defenders with a screw slightly loose ;)

You should study the proper film, not only the biased hype highlight ones...

Go to the 7:00 minute mark:

That right there folks is Jaylon #2.

Dude stop posting your one dumb film over and over again and treating it like gospel. I literally watched every single game Parsons played at Penn State.

They aren’t lazy at all.

They share the same strengths and that’s a fact.

Parsons has the upside because he has 2 functioning legs and he’s fast but on the football field they can both go sideways and downhill.

They are lazy because saying he is “just like Jaylon Smith” as just a negative is stupid.

Jaylon Smith was an elite prospect himself until he suffered a devastating knee injury that he has never fully recovered from.

none of us know how good Jaylon would be if he never ruins his knee.

that’s why it’s stupid to say “he is just like Jaylon” like it’s some bad thing.

it’s also stupid because Parsons has other abilities Jaylon doesn’t.

Everything I have read and seen suggests he is excellent in coverage for a LB.

  • Quick to the flat
  • Closing speed
  • Rangy
  • Advanced pass-coverage linebacker
  • Can help cover against tight ends and running backs
  • Can drop into zone coverage
  • Gains instant depth dropping into coverage.
  • Athletic talent to handle man coverage duties.
  • I wish there was more tape of him playing man coverage, but his athletic profile suggests he can execute man assignments well. He was solid in zone coverage - can tell he’s reading route combinations, and he clamps on underneath routes with authority. Parsons is a rare athlete who can affect the pass, the run, and the blitzing portion of playing NFL linebacker.

He moves easily in coverage, quickly getting depth in shallow to intermediate zone coverages. Likewise, he has great range at the second level, easily pacing running backs on swing passes or covering ground to defend screen plays

Parsons is going to be fine in coverage.

that is. When he isn’t rushing the passer.

I support the player even though I don't like the pick, especially at the #12 spot.

Whatever you say. I think you are going to warm up to him real quickly. He is a little raw, but Im not worried about it. The guy has it all. Cant be any worse than Jaylon or LVE.

You watched every single game, but you didn't learn his cons?

What a waste.

He has to prove he can cover or it’s a bust.

He runs a 4.39 40.. NFL linebackers in this era have to be able to cover.

He’s just a old school sideline to sideline and downhill guy.

That’s cool until Andy Reid decides to spread your team out and isolate you and get you cover TEs that run like wideouts and RBs who can play like wideouts.

Im not saying he can’t cover but it’s a projection.
Yup. If Jones and the Giants O line pan out, and that’s a big if, we’re going to have our hands full in coverage. Galloday, Barkley, Shepard, Engram is fast and Toney is faster than OBJ with a better vertical and more shifty. They also have Slayton to stretch the field and a poor mans Witten in Rudolph.

Good luck covering all that.

I just feel like he doesn't fill the hole and we already have that with Jaylon. He's a read and run LB same as Jaylon. I didn't want a corner and am glad we didn't take one but I would love to see us focus on the defensive line in round 2 and maybe a guy like Adebo in the 3rd or a trade up.

this won’t age well ‍♂️

So the truth lies somewhere in the middle, like most of us said months ago, huh? Not a Top Ten D, but also not near as bad as 2020.

Lol I said nothing wrong and it if Parsons doesn’t get good at covering then I’m 100% spot on and him being able to cover is still a projection.

The thing I maybe didn’t account for was our coaching staff willing to line him up on the edge and rush him like a 3-4 OLB. If he can rush the passer at a high level I’ll take that over coverage.

1 thing I didn’t factor in was the Cowboys lining him up on the edge and letting him rush the passer that way. If he’s good at that then his coverage isn’t even important. I’d rather have a pass rusher than a cover guy.

But if they just use him like a traditional backer and he can’t cover then the pick is a waste.
