God forbid, if we lose him we will have to find somebody to play all 3rd downs so we can keep our best player off the field in those situations.

Yeah, his initials are AP or AD or something like that....

Well crap.
There goes the University of North Texas representation on the Dallas Cowboys.

Could this be the door opening for "you know who?"

$3 million? Thank god he is gone. Way too much for a limited role RB. He now cancels out the Paea signing and opens up another 5th round comp pick for McClain. Easily replaced for less money or with a mid to late round draft pick.

Of course they do. It will at least count in the formula and cancel out a signing. Then can now sign a FA for $3 million a year and not lose a comp pick they already earned.
Not every contract earns a comp pick. Yes, it can count for the cancellation/offset.

But stand alone, I don't think that kind of contract would justify getting a 7th.

Really wish we had held onto Darius Jackson. But honestly pretty much anyone can replace Dunbar

Never have I been more excited to see a player sign somewhere else. Our coaches needed this to help them resist the temptation of actually believing Dunbar was a contributor.

It is sad we are actually happy over something like this.

I haven't felt like this since Phil Costa signed his contract with the Colts.

1 year for $3 million is well above the threshold. Why does Moore count against us at 1 year $900,000 but this deal doesn't? Why does Paea count against us at 1 year for $2 million?

Good question.

All of them "count" in terms of the offset far as I know.

But if what you are saying is accurate, every middling free agent contract would trigger a comp pick if a team loses more than they sign.

We lose
Leary-4...............9m
Church-5............6.5m
McClain-5..........5.2m
Wilcox-6.............4m*
JCrawford-6.......3.5m*

RDavis-7..............1m*
Sanchez-6
Carr-6
Escobar-7
Durant-7
Gachkar-7
Dunbar-7
*= cancelled by FAs we signed below

We sign- count
NCarroll-6..............3.5m*
Paea-7...................2m*
DMoore-7..............800k*

That is where we stood before he signed. I would say now he cancels out Paea, Carroll cancels out Crawford, and that opens up the 6th rounder for Wilcox giving us the maximum of 4 picks. Hopefully some others sign bigger deals so we can get some more 4th or 5ths.
