Maybe he will.

This is not about dismissing hope. But if the team was smart, they would be reactive to this. And not by signing some undrafted free agent to just fill a slot.

Let's look down the road and just for this season.

If Looney ate that one excessive Twinkie and got a severe case of indigestion tomorrow, who steps in?

Jacob Ohnesorge from South Dakota State.

That is how prepared this organization is. They are on point and prepared for all contingencies, let me tell you.

Well that goes back to is exactly what is wrong with this organization ... the FO and coaching. Philly didn't miss a beat after suffering serious injuries last season ...

Another thing when I had GBS my doctors told me many people have the disease for weeks before the symptoms get serious enough to seek medical consult. So that's another thing, there is no mention of if they suspected the disease was present before he sought medical advice ... I was told some people recover fully within 3 months...He could already be in the 3rd month of the disease. I think it's good news for Travis (most importantly) that he says "he already feeling better".

There is different severities to it. I believe he was practicing while symptoms presented themselves ... most importantly I'm optimistic Travis will live a normal live (most importantly), and will return this season (less important).

Pretty strong assumption but I hope you are right. Count me as one who says let him take the year off without pressure to get it under control.. We'll survive...

JR Sweezy was a starting center for Seattle, went to TB in free agency where he started 14 games last year before breaking his leg. He supposedly has visited Seattle, I would definitely bring him in for a physical and see where he is at. Luke Joeckel might be worth a looksee at guard. He was the number 2 pick in the entire draft in 2013. Tim Barnes is a guy that started all 32 games in 2015-16 for the Rams and spent some time with San Fran last year. Alex Boone would be worth a look at guard if he is in any kind of shape. He got cut by the Vikes a year ago supposedly because he was out of shape.

Damn, dude, excellent work!

Below is from Mayo clinic. Seems they caught it early so I would hope it's on the shorter side. Outside chance he plays this season, but most importantly he needs to take care of himself. Joe Looney likely starts, I would also see if Williams may be an option at center. Cowboys likely to hunt the waiver wire or trade for a backup with some experience.

Although some people can take months and even years to recover, most people with Guillain-Barre syndrome experience this general timeline:

  • After the first signs and symptoms, the condition tends to progressively worsen for about two weeks
  • Symptoms reach a plateau within four weeks
  • Recovery begins, usually lasting six to 12 months, though for some people it could take as long as three years

I am quite sure that the information you have posted is the norm. On the other hand Fred Beard isn't normal and he is getting the best treatment money can buy. Jerry would probably fly him anywhere in the world to get treatments on his private jet.

Sorry Cowpoke for the late response, but this is EXACTLY what I was looking for in my original message. I love the discussion but what you disclosed here is what I wanted to know. It is 100% pertinent to our situation. They are going to have to start looking into this.

I wasn't worried. Again we have no idea how long this will take. Could be 2 weeks and it could be the rest of his career. All we know is the diagnosis....that they caught it very early which is not often the case.... Freddie is responding well to the treatment.

To claim that just because you googled something that you know how this will turn out is like saying because you stayed at a Holiday Inn last night you can perform open heart surgery. As Cowboys fans we saw Jason Witten have his spleen removed and not miss a game. Which still sounds unbelievable.

Bottom line is what's best for Freddie and his family. Hopefully the treatment continues to work for him and his familys sake.

You are correct. Although he smart money is probably betting he would be doubtful for week one, even with everything going as well as can be expected.

Ok the other hand the doom and gloomers don't have any idea how fast he can spring back. It's really that varied based on severity and how his body responds.

Again trying to be right.
Again trying to deny what you said, plain as day.

Look there is nothing wrong with admitting, well, you were wrong.

Yes, I am going to continue to reiterate the fact I was right as long as you deny the fact that you completely screwed up. Say uncle and we can all move on.

Well there are about two and a half weeks until game one. If that's he case he could possibly play by game 2 or 3.

Are you OK with him coming back that soon because of Dallas Cowboys medicine or say..Duke University medicine that says he should take year to get this REAL issue under complete control? Just curious....?

Exactly no one really knows. YouTube only shows the worse and there is little to nothing on those that catch it this early because most don't because they don't have access to the specialist that would even know to consider it a possibility. Travis could literally be stuck in the hospital next week or getting ready to play football if he so chooses. Glad the treatment is working for him and we will see. Definitely in my prayers

I think there is no way of knowing. Lol. You are just being dramatic.

This could be anything from a slight inconvenience to life threatening and everything in between. No one knows at this point.

We can't rule out that he will be out all year or longer. We also can't rule out him being back in 4 weeks give or take either.

The team is likely not going to rule him out.

Ticket sales would plummet. The best thing is the "week to week" prognosis.

The amount of people who have based their decision whether or not to purchase football tickets on the health of the team's center is so minuscule that it might as well be zero.

He has to be the biggest negative drama queen on this board. If I looked at the Cowboys like he did I would find another team to root for.

You are kidding right? He is going to be out until that is under control. No timetable is right. I'd be completely shocked if he plays this year with this type diagnosis.
I agree. I doubt he plays this year. GB can be a long time recovering from ....

LOL You mean "melodramatic" right? BUT absolutely NOT.. A diagnosis of GBS is really on the level of Cancer. Sadly many don't understand it. Overall, I agree though there are many factors that weigh on his status. #1 being "how he feels"... I personally, given what I know about this syndrome would be worried about my family first. I would evaluate everything. Playing for the Cowboys most likely would be like in 5th or 6th line of importance....if it isn't then you are loser, plain and simple.... I would make sure I felt like continuing to be a professional athlete which in itself is not easy. From there if I felt good, sure I'd train and do what I could to be a pro athlete....#1 is I would want to make sure I wouldn't do anything to prevent myself from being "alive"....football might do that so I'd say...pound sand... He has a lot to think about and we are just dopes on the outside.
