I think Dak's best comparison is Steve McNair

Alex Smith actually is not a good comparison. Smith's pass attempts are primarily VERY short or very deep, with very little in between. Dak is just the opposite -- his attempts are primarily in the middle range (5 to 20 yards), with fewer passes very short or very deep.

Last year, Smith led the league in the percentage of his passes thrown behind the line of scrimmage (26.2 percent), while Dak ranked 32nd (13.8 percent). Smith was second in percentage thrown 5 yards or less (56.6 percent), while Dak ranked 30th (41.8 percent). Smith ranked 11th in percentage thrown more than 20 yards downfield (11.6 percent), while Dak ranked 31st (9.0 percent).

McNair always put up numbers like 15-27 for a 170 yards and like 30-40 yards rushing. He had a prime Eddie George and Jamal Lewis with high quality olines with players such as Bruce Matthews, Joanthen Odgen etc. Similarly, to us with Zeke and our oline. The most tds McNair ever had in a season was 24. I think this is the best comparison you can make for Dak. He's not Mcnabb. He's not Russel Wilson. Etc. Opinions

Said that last year. Agree playmaker. Very similar to McNair. Good O-line and RB comparisons by team too. The only reason we compare him to RGIII and Kapp is he can run the RPO. Of course there is the other physical trait to remain unnamed here. Surprised we don't compare him to Doug Williams

Ok but he’s also been in the league forever.

Daks best football looked a lot better then Smiths imo.
do not agree alex was great last year and he was great in San Fran Dak will hope to have career like Smiths..at the rate hes missing open TE/WRs he wont be around long..Alex smith was drivng a Grey Hound bus and Daks on the short bus right now..Dak is struggling to just hit the guys in the flats, hot check downs etc..he better get it together

Smith is more accurate but he is a very good runner.

Smith has had 10 years of practice. Compare their first 3 years, Smith's numbers were not even close to Prescott's. Later yes but he barked his first 4 years as a 9'er

Smith was terrible his first 3 years in SF and didn't play his fourth year at all. He came close to Prescott's numbers his 5'th year. His second year was decent with 16 TD's BUT 16 int's to go along with them.

Daks gonna need a great supporting cast if he wants to win that championship. These guys he’s getting compared to haven’t been able to do it.

Still think McNabb is the closest. McNabb was a bit better athlete IMO and I believe faster. Probably a bit stronger arm. Dak is a more natural leader while McNabb was a bit of knucklehead.

With this team we should be killing it, Zeke should be running mad all over the field. With no passing attack will Zeke ever break out? This line and Zeke are being wasted, with a potent passing attack and a dominant running game we would be lethal. Today we just have to hope and keep our fingers crossed...Sad!

Dak's first three year look better than Smiths. Smith was called a 'bus-driver" early, that may be the only accurate description of the two

McNair was a much better passer, IMO.
McNair's TD-to-INT ratio and passer rating and completion percentages say otherwise, in general.

To put it in perspective, Dak's worst season was a season with a 22-13 TD-to-INT ratio and a passer rating in the high mid-80's. That's his floor so far. Pretty positive McNair didn't have a passing season as good as Dak's worst season until his 7th year in the league.

Dak's 62.9 completion percentage in his worst season last year? McNair only topped that twice in his career, and it wasn't until the very end when he was a savvy veteran in his mid-30's and wasn't a runner anymore. Everybody crying that Dak is inaccurate would have lynched McNair. Let's be honest.

And it wasn't until McNair was a wily 9th year, 30-year old veteran that his passing game improved to the point where he posted, for the only time in his career, a great TD-to-INT ratio and a passer rating that hit 100. Things Prescott already did as a rookie (and did them even better than McNair, by a good margin).

McNabb was a better passer, had some early mechanics issues but Reid and his staff worked it out.
