Wins and losses dont say Dak is terrible. 4th Quarter comebacks dont reflect Dak is terrible. QB Stats compared to the rookie class of QBs he came in with definitely dont say he is terrible. Just Cowboys fans that are being pulled by the puppet masters of the media so they can make a buck off the most passionate fan base on the planet....say he is terrible. Dance puppet......dance.

Like ALL QB's they cant win without great players around them. Some guys need more than others, but ALL need great players around them.

What I have seen with Cousins is that he doesnt have the IT factor. Leadership and clutch.
I think everyone understands all QBs need help. Hard to the kind of help Cousins is going to need when he is making all that money.

Shhh, with a perimeter, we can install those shock collar systems to strongly dissuade straying by JJ. Don't change it!

Tried that with my dog and she isn't a scotch drinker. I bet JJ beats the shock collar to get to the Walker :muttley:. One day he may even take his Walker in a walker, imagine bustin through the perimeter then

By extending him this off-season, we are essentially giving him a pay raise in 2019 to reflect his current level of production (18-20 million) and franchise tagging him for 2020 and 2021 (25 million for both years).

The franchise tag in 2020 and 2021 will probably be 28-30 million for QBs.

He can but cut in 2022 if needed and only cost 7-9 million in dead money.

It's for certain he will be our starting QB in 2019 and nearly certain in 2020. It's just the reality of the situation and roster.

We may as well get this done sooner rather than later.

This is Foles current contract.....take a look and tell what you think about a trade possibility

3/13/2017: Signed a two-year, $11 million contract. The deal contains $7 million guaranteed. 2018: $4 million (+ $3 million roster bonus), 2019: Free Agent

This is what Over the CAP shows on Foles.

2018 - $13,600,000 / 2019 - $20,600,000

Eagles face big decision on Carson Wentz's contract

The Philadelphia Eagles have a critical decision in front of them when it comes to quarterback Carson Wentz, who is eligible for a new contract starting Dec. 31.

Nick Foles mania aside, coach Doug Pederson has made it clear that "when [Wentz is] healthy, he's our quarterback." The organization has long held the conviction that Wentz is a franchise QB with enormous potential, and they have a history of locking in their core players early.

Wentz is dealing with a stress fracture in his back at the moment, though, and is coming off a serious multiligament knee injury. Does the team slow-play the negotiations given his recent health issues and risk getting slammed financially when the market resets, or do they try and lock him up soon while the cost is (comparatively) reasonable and cross their fingers that these type of injuries don't continue to strike?

I'm guessing Dak's agent will use numbers similar to Wentz and/or Goff, especially if using their stats and postseason play.

Side note.......notice the chart will the top 6 QBs contracts/salaries. For fans saying let him play out his last year of 2019, $28.6M is the average salary for the top on the list. Meaning 2019 franchise tag for QBs could jump from $23M to 28M.

Just know this isn't Dak, the reality is the NFL market for starting QBs is on fire. Notice what the article says about Russell Wilson next deal.

Bottom line.....IF Dak is your 2020-2021 starter with a contract averaging $23-25M, it's likely a bargain.

ModEdit: Made the post a lot more readable than it was.

Unless Philly or Dallas are getting a discount on contact extension this off-season, I see no reason to extend either yet. Ceiling on both contracts is likely $40 million for Wentz and around $28 million for Dak (per Peter King). If neither player doesn't come in lower by atleast $5 million less per season, its pointless to extend them now with major question marks on both QBs.

Because it is 2 more years you can pro-rate the signing bonus and extend the cap hit

Plus no one likes to play as a lame duck and it breeds good will

If he merely continues at his present levels he is worth a big extension..... 95 career Passer Rating

It should s 100thrve as lesson
But it won’t becaude teams are desperate for QB
You could be right. Vikes were doing fine with case Keenan but bought into the cousins hype. the fact the skins let him go shows not everyone gets fooled all the time. Jerry might be awestruck by dak, but I doubt Stephen is.

Buy low and sell him for what he thinks he's worth. Problem solved.

They definitely need to see more out of Dak before giving him the big contract. I would like them to extend his rookie contract to the fourth year option. After that, the contract thing is up for discussion again or dismissal.

Just out of curiosity, if we tried to trade Dak ... what would we get for him?

No one would give us more than a 4th or 5th round pick at this moment. I'm certain most teams see Dak as a backup and wouldn't give up anything for his services.

Dak has another year to prove to us what he's worth. But at this moment, he has 1 year left as a Cowboy.
Dak would command at least a 1st and 2nd. Don’t be dumb

Uh, no he wouldn't. Especially with him only having 1 more year until you need to pay him big money.

I agree with the poster that said if you DID give Dak a new deal, frontload it so the first two years you are paying 23-25 mill per year, and then no more guaranteed money after that so you can just walk away from the deal. Dak's agent will never go for that, though, not after Kirk Cousins ruined it for everyone by getting a fully guaranteed deal.

Uh, no he hasn't. The only qb on that list he's "outplayed" is Stafford, who is saddled with a bad OC, injured, and had his team trade away his weapons.

Also, there's more to a players' trade value than his stats. Contract status is just as important.

Dak Prescott has 1 more year of being a cheap bargain, then he has to get PAID. Starting QBs are almost always overpaid, that's just the nature of the position. Year 2 someone is going to have to give him 100+ million for 5 years, with most of that guaranteed. There's no way a team is going to trade a 1st and 2nd. Don't be dumb. This isn't Madden franchise mode.

He had no weapons the first 6 weeks

Run his numbers for the last 8 weeks
