I didn't say ALL East Coast. P-Diddy is definitely a joke.

It surprises me that you don't have more credit for De La. They don't get any more "mature" than De La and they have a smooth poetic flow with excellent lyrics and phenomenal beats.
They are one of the few East Coast bands mtv and radio played into oblivion, lol.

and they needed some haircuts:)

I have always preferred East Coast bands to West Coast myself but all sides have guys with skill. I generally detest the softness of West Coast athletes so its funny that the rappers are all gangsters, lol.

The D.O.C. is from Dallas and wrote alot of the gangsta stuff NWA and Easy E put out. He had one great album then had a car crash that crushed his voice box. His lyrics were awesome even if overinudated with gangsta-ism. Dr. Dre used to come to the skating ring by my house in Pleasant Grove and DJ when he was between those World Class Wreckin Crew and NWA gigs.

Ya I was actually thinking myself about high school girls when that stuff came up. I was a sophomore or junior in high school. Man those were good times. Such a small, small world.

I went to Spruce if anyone here is local to Dallas btw.

Interesting take on things from many people.

I will ist my ten in no particular order after the first one. Some are for lyrical content, some are flow.

1. Tupac Shakur - Easily the best ever at this point. He had it all.

2. Nas
2. The Notorious B.I.G.
2. KRS-One
2. Outkast
2. Jay-Z
2. Ice Cube
2. Dr. Dre
2. Snoop
2. Rakim

As far as mainstream America getting into Rap music....That IMO was all about RUN DMC. Walk this way, talk this way... joinig forces with Aerosmith is what made Rick Rubin (Co-Owner of Def Jam, and Beastie Boys discoverer) a genius. He is still making music with Artists like Jay-Z (I believe it was 99 problems).

What made rap bigger than ever ? Limp Biskit, Kid Rock and a few others.

Most of the newer guys dont make me want to go out and buy their music, but Eminem is an exception.

Sorry.
That's way off.
If anything, those clowns ruined rap and helped contribute to it's recent downfall. Hip hop peaked and was at it's most popular years before those wannabe rock/rappers came on the scene.

No, I think you and Payton34 are misunderstanding what I am saying (Maybe I said it wrong). I agree that the quality of rap they hurt dramatically.

Not better than ever, bigger than ever.

These guys brought even more of "white america" into the rap game. You better believe it wasnt Nas, KRS, or PE.

Hip Hop peaked as far as talent of their stars. But you are sadly mistaken if you believe rap was more popular or more profitable than it has been in the past 2-3 years.

In no paticular order -

Run DMC - Yes there where those before, but straight pioneers.

NWA - We drank a lot of 40's together. Made Gangsta Rap

Too Short - I loved him. There was nothing like bumping and grinding with a sexy woman to Too Short.

Spice 1 - Very original beats, and a straight killa. Very under rated.

Erik B and Rakim - If your head could not bop with them, it just never would.

Dr Dre - I give him his own spot even though NWA is listed. Chronic just may be the best Rap album of all time.

Snoop Dog - How could he not be on the list. Original and his influence has been huge.

Ghetto Boys - "Say hello to my little friend"

EPMD - Forgotten, but not by me.

Public Enemy - I did not like them, but I have to give them their due.

Couldn't even name 1 without some coaxing. Even then I doubt I'd know more than 1 song by any artist or band.

My favs are mostly old school and I can tolerate a little of this so called hip hop. I like like RAP.

1. PE - Chuck D is tha man
2. Eric B and Rakim - I still listen to them
3. Snoop - smooth
4. KRS 1 - you must LEARN
5. Dre
6. Kool Moe Dee - Jack the Ripper down with my zipper :D
7. Run DMC - The Kings of Rock there is none high Sucka MC's can call me sire
8. Tupac - very gifted I just didn't care for the content
9. Beastie Boys - gotta love them
10. Em - very unique to say the least

As for my hate list

1. LL - The only song I like is Momma said knock you out
2. Puffy - He could at least try to hide the fact he uses the whole song as a background instead of just sampling
3. All the rest of the new school

BP - you surprise me more and more each day. I would have never guessed a metal head like you liked rap.
