Well if we trade both, do we take a cap hit or savings? I know both are still on their rookie deals, but not sure what the contracts look like money wise.

Adam?

there is no state in Troy:p:

c'mon, sharpen up

Maybe everyone's mind is just over-excited about the possiblilities of what we might get in return for Carpenter. (even though I fear greatly for our special teams with Davis and Carpenter possibly on the way out) I mean, a pack of tick tacs would be huge!

Honestly though we only have 1 game to judge Bobby Carpenter on and he was very impressive in that game.

I wish the coaches would just let him play. Even Parcells said **** and let him play and it worked out.

He may be a guy who just absolutely sucks in practice but finds ways to have his name called out on the Speaker at the stadium.

Im more disapointed with the coaches regarding Bobby Carpenter than I am with the player.

How often does a 6'4, 250+ pound linebacker out of Ohio State, who is versatile and fast fail in the NFL?

And they give us a 2nd round pick..

How about Spears, Carpenter, Roy Williams, and our second round pick for Roy Williams and their 15th overall pick! :laugh2:

EDIT:

Three first rounders
  1. 15th overall
  2. 22nd overall
  3. 29th overall

Now, who would you draft with those picks? ;)

Actually, the coaches had an entire TC and pre-season to judge him and they judged that he sucked.

What a waste of 2 1st rd picks if this is true......

Makes the Quincy Carter pick look good.

Wonder how much bashing Jones will get for drafting these two spuds?

Their departure can't make the special teams coverage unit any worse. Both were there in the playoff game against the Giants when the unit gave up a big return leading to what ended up being the game winning TD.

Before his injury, I thought Patrick Watkins was doing the best job on special teams followed by rookie Justin Rogers. I never liked Watkins as a starter. Always saw him as a special teamer, hopefully he embraces the role that "Killer" had and he continues to make a difference on special teams. He had a number of big tackles and the special teams return for a TD against Minnesota. Dallas is retaining their best special teamers in my opinion.

But he couldn't get on the field because he wasn't any good in practice. He wasn't even any good in the real games he got in before he got yanked.

I even remember Parcells saying, "His problem isn't athletic ability, I'll tell you that." Well, if it's not that, there are only a few other things it could be. That he's dumb and blows assignments? Nope, he's pretty smart. That he's lazy? No, he supposedly works and lifts hard. That's why I think it's toughness.

Who knows, maybe we keep him and he supplants Akin. That would be the best situation. But I don't see it. Wade got Courtney Brown on the field more than Carp, for crying out loud.

We traded off Scott Shanle for beans but he has been a starter in N.O. I would not put it past Carpenter to end up having a solid career elsewhere but it will need to be in a position where he isn't asked to take on blockers as he isn't very strong. He is quick and has good size/speed ratio thus the first round pick.

If we could get a 3rd for him I'd take it, but nothing less than that.

Drew Bolyhart's scouting report said the guy is maybe too smart for his own good, that he didn't turn it on in any big games in college

I think the dude just needs to get motivated, idk how we're going to do it though

maybe 3 years in a strength and conditioning program will give him the needed strength?

Just thinking, Spears to Detriot actually has some credence considering they want to get rid of Shaun Rogers. Spears would fit right in at DT in a 4-3 defense.

EDIT:

Actually, Roy Williams, Spears, and Carpenter fill several needs of the Lions on defense. Tossing in the second rounder would probably be a good deal for the the Lions. They have holes all over the defense.

if this is true..what does that say about the drafts the last couple of years. I mean seriously. That means we have trashed the following 1st day picks during Parcells tenure....Al Johnson (2nd) Spears (1st) Peterman (3rd) Julius Jones (2nd) Rogers (2nd) Carpenter (1st)..and it is a stretch to think Fasano will ever see a 2nd contract from Dallas. This is just unbelievable. And I am posting this fully aware that the Parcells apologist are coming with guns loaded..but this really stinks.
