In a perfect world you don't pay Dak a 3rd contract (Jerry and his jersey sales need the 3rd contract on Dak) and you Draft someone at the bottom of the 1st round - 2nd round that can compete with him while he rides out his contract for a few years and move on. I personally like Nix at the bottom of the 1st he's better than Lewis who was drafted in 2nd round and behind Stroud so that would put him at bottom of Round 1. Draft Bo Nix and still have draft capital to surround Dak and Bo with weapons and OL and let the best man win.
You're talking about spending ~$5-6m additional cap dollars on a second quarterback and not using a first-round pick to build the supporting cast. This is a totally conflicting ideology. We just saw the Packers do this and it was a massive mistake.

one could argue if it was a massive mistake, it provoked Rodgers to keep Love at bay and pissed him off enough to almost get them to the superbowl. Now yes IF that did transpire we would be sitting on a 5-6m a year backup but we are paying CRush 3m a year + incentives.

You could not argue that, especially since "almost getting to the Super Bowl" isn't any kind of accomplishment. If we're giving that out, then we can say that Dak almost made the NFCCG when Rodgers hit that ridiculous pass to Cook.

It's a 5-6m backup PLUS the opportunity cost of a first-round pick that doesn't see the field on a team that's supposed to be win now.

ok how many times have we Traded a 1st or tanked the pick. 1 year of missing out on a 1st round pick does not kill you.

Doesn't matter. It's the ideology that is flawed.

You can't say "we're trying to win now" and then take a developmental player in the first round. Totally conflicting.

Because if you release Dak you are doubling the cap spend on QB than if you extend him and likely getting a worse player.

It's a dumb bet to think that a rookie is going to give you a better chance to win than Dak, which means you also have to acquire a veteran QB. You're not going to win that way, so you have to just tear it down and commit to a rebuild. The approach you want is basically what the Colts and Commanders have done for the last 5-6 years. It's a terrible operation and never works.
Cut him June 1st. Spread the hit. Cap space is going up $30M next year. DON'T extend Dak. If he can't win a super bowl then why do it?

You don't know a rookie won't give you a better chance to win a super bowl or not. I'd rather ride with him the next 5 years than over pay Dak who we know won't win a super bowl.

Why would you need a vet? I'm opposed to that 100%. Get a Jackson or Herbert or Hurts or Burrow or Lawrence. Look where Mahomes was drafted. Start them day one. No vet needed.

I have no idea what your talking about with the Colts and Commanders. They have far inferior roster to the Cowboys. You keep bringing that up and it never makes any sense.

Can't win a Super Bowl with Dak but you just named 4 guys who are paid - or about to be paid - MORE than Dak and haven't won lmao.

Just absolutely no legitimacy to your point.

Wrong. You are entirely wrong. Drafting a QB in the first round is a 50-50 shot that they're even ready to start in the first round, let alone capable of playing championship football.

People act like there are just rookie contract QBs out winning Super Bowls every year. Other than Mahomes, who, good luck finding anyone like him, it doesn't happen.

I'll take a 50/50 shot over paying a QB that won't win a super bowl like Dak top 3 or top 5 money.

At least there is a chance as opposed to no chance and a ton of wasted cap space.

I know what you said.

And you referenced 4 guys who have not won a SB. There is nothing to say that they can but Dak can't, so it's a really dumb point.

Drafting a QB in the first round next year would be so stupid.

If you do that, you might as well trade everybody, because it means you're rebuilding.
What’s wrong with “rebuilding”? 28 years of not doing it is why we are stuck in mediocrity.

Remember last summer, when Spencer Rattler was the Heisman favorite and future #1 pick? Or when Sam Howell was a top 5 pick in the making?

Caleb Williams is too damn good to fall to those guys' levels. There's just no projection needed, he could start in the NFL tomorrow. But I don't think we will be seeing Drake Maye drafted this high next year.

Have you watched this guy play?
Man, he is nothing like any QB Texas has had in the past.
I guess maybe if they recruited Luck from their own state like they should have.

Drake May has some Troy Aikman/Carson Palmer to him. All are sneaky good athletes, especially for their size.

6'4" 225 (Aikman was 6'4" 219, Palmer was 6'5" 225), Maye was a basketball standout in high school and his brother Luke, was a solid player for the Tarheels basketball team. His dad played QB at UNC in the late 80s. One brother, Cole, is a tall left-handed pitcher who won a national title for Florida, and another brother Beau, is a current forward for UNC basketball.

This isn't Mitchell Trubisky or Sam Howell (don't scout the helmet). Maye has HUGE upside.

yeah i have seen guys with all the tools but nothing between the ears. every scouting report and watching tape on him he tends to hold the ball too long and only reads half the field like most College QB's. I think he can shorten up his holding of the ball but reading a full field with a complexe defense is going to take a few years to get too.
