Gino Smith was a top 5 QB last year.
There aren’t many because most teams don’t have time to let a first round pick sit and learn behind a starter. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. This was a no lose situation that people are trying to turn into something more than it is. Green Bay was about the only team most recently to be able to do it.

who? Bernie Cosar? Completely different situation. He was their starting QB for years and just came to Dallas to play back up to finish his career.
But what’s the point. We’re looking for a back up quarterback to take over for Cooper Rush. If he becomes a starter, someday all the more luck to him.

So many people on here are so stupid!

Would we have a 57 page thread on whoever our 4th round pick would have been next year? Hell no!

We got Trey Lance for a 4th rounder. Its at the VERY WORST a loss of a 4th round pick. BIG FREAKING DEAL!

At best we have a great #2 and maybe even a number #1 or someone we can trade in a couple of years for a higher pick if Lance performs well but Dak remains #1.

This board is full of so many silly takes.

SF is the team who FAILED here. Not Dallas.

so do you think you know ore than Shanahan? Were you at practice? In the film room? How bad do you have to be for a team to give up on you that fast after giving away all those draft picks???
From the reports he asked to be out and they gave him his wish. Not saying he will be good but he was raw coming into NFL and threw less than 200 passes including preseason in NFL.

I love the trade because the talent is there. Let’s hope he can be saved

So, how does this help win a Championship this season?
How does not making this trade and picking in the 4th round of next year's draft help us win a championship this season?

I'll wait for the answer...

They’re being stupid on purpose and it’s our job to play their dumb game. It keeps them from doing other dumb **it.

We don't have a great #2. We have a better #3. That's it. SF bailed because they didn't see any upside in continuing to develop him. He couldn't beat out Purdy or Sam Darnold. And they are mediocre QBs. The 49ers are laughing because the Cowboys overpaid for him.

Also..looking for a QB1 that won’t cost us 200 million in cap.

Even if they let Dak walk, he still counts 36 million in cap for 2025.

End the madness.

Pure speculation. Does not change anything I posted. Thanks for doing your part to bring down the collective IQ of the Cowboys fanbase.

All you are doing is speculating too. If Dak fails I want us to try to get a real successor. I'm tired of all these Qb projects. None of them have panned out unless you like to stay mediocre forever.

No. This thread is 58 pages long and a lot of fans are dumb. Neither of those points I made are speculation.

What has he ever shown you that he can even be a backup QB in NFL? Starting? Seriously?

There is absolutely no way the Cowboys win Super Bowl 28 without Emmitt. They may see RB as easily replaceable today but the 1993 team started out 0-2 and only won their division due to a heroic effort by an injured Emmitt Smith in their last regular season game. Besides rushing for almost 1500 yards, despite missing 2 games, he was also the Cowboys 2nd leading receiver that season.

Jerry did say the same thing about DeMarco Murray and then promptly proved himself wrong as Joseph Randle flatlined as Murray's replacement. Most likely, Romo wouldn't have been such a target that season and might have remained healthy had Murray remained with the team. In either case, the team plummeted from a 12-4 season in 2014 to a 4-12 record in 2015.

Na, you don't have to tell me brother. I've never been in the camp of any rb will do. I'm actually hoping we sign another capable back in case TP goes down.

I do however, see how these guys are starting to have shorter and shorter shelf lives. I can't imagine anyone ever breaks Emmitts record.

Now we have a QB controversy and a talking point for the mediots. Jerry has decided to not pay Dak on his next contract and has an excuse he needed.

good news for Dak as he can now escape this dismal franchise

Only a 4th round draft pick. It's like buying a lotto ticket... you can't win if you don't play.
