8 Fast Food Restaurants That Have Died Off

LOL!

I get it... But McD's... Well the chain is iconic. Gotta hand it to Ray Kroc for developing the franchise system behind it.

I work with business owners all the time that have 4-year/6-year degrees and run businesses that are doing less than a mill and have all sorts of business issues– including the owner being scared to death to take any time off.

And here you have McD's, each typically run by teenagers and the elderly– And doing a couple mill per year.

As a business guy I applaud that.

As far as the food goes, when you combine price with taste, expectations and consistency– My gosh McD's is tough to beat. Can I get a better burger? You bet! But I'm going to pay more for it... Sometimes a lot more. And many time the burgers at the other chains "change".

Not at McD's. It's the same tasting burger as what I had as a kid in late 60's.

Give me a couple cheeseburgers and fries... And I'm a happy camper and I've spent what? I dunno... $4.

And the fries?

No one has beaten McD's fries IMO.

And let me say I think the Egg McMuffin is the perfect breakfast sandwich... Hand's down.

So while McD's had taken their lumps over the years–There's a lot of redeeming things about the chain and its food.
I agreed with you on just about everything you said. Sausage McMuffin is better, lol. The Big Mac is really the only burger I like there now, and their fries are still the best in the industry. One thing that McDonald's has excelled at too is their marketing strategy. They make no secret about marketing to kids, and is easy for a parent to comply because they can be confident the kids will eat the food (maybe just to get the toy). And since they are there, might as well get an extra value meal as well.

Never eat anything with a "special sauce"

Anyways, their fries are good but 2nd to In-N-Out IMO.

McDonald's biscuits FTW! Why the frick cant you buy those style, or KFC's style, in stores?!! Ive tried all the pillsbury and whatever else brands, none of em are even close....

Wasn't Grandy's slogan "Fast food that doesnt' taste fast!" or something?

I was going to add Shakey's Pizza to the list, but they also apparently still existing, primarily in California.

Damn, I loved Shakey's. Mojos and pizza!

Oh Burger Chef, my favorite as a kid. Loved the funmeals, with the little puzzles and stuff, especially the flimsy vinyl records around Halloween. Great stuff. Still have some promotional glasses from them for endangered species and the 70's King Kong. They also did these awesome Star Wars posters I still have. But of course my dumb butt hung them, tore them and drew on the back.

I wasn't aware Top Hat became Sonic, here we pretty much have a Sonic on every other corner. And yes they suck

No they don't! Chili cheese coney with cheese tater tots and a coconut slushy are awesome! I don't get those here in the NYC area.

I've only been to Sonic maybe 4-5 times since I moved to NY in 2005. I haven't actually been to a Sonic since probably 2011 and it was in the D/FW area.

Oh, yes they are quite often hit or miss, especially here in OKC people make them out to be the best thing since sliced bread. Whataburger is much much better

Loved Sonic as a kid, then there were none in my area for +15 years. They are back now, but I haven't been to one.

Agree with Sam, chili cheese coney and tots were awesome.

Still have my Cowboys NFL mug from there.

Isn't "sambo" considered to be racially offensive?

Kind of like opening up a place and calling it Mulatto's or Honkey's

If so, I doubt the name would remain if the chain had managed to survive

Yeah even in the early 70's, the name raised an eyebrow or two.

Sonic is my favorite fast food burger. Their ice for drinks is the best too

Can't imagine why Sambo's closed......

Speaking of disappearing....

McDonald is about to take Kroc's idea of efficiency to the next level and replace $15/hr wannabe's with machines. When they do, the other chains will follow suit. There's gonna be a whole bunch of people wondering what the heck happened when they don't have jobs anymore. Not to mention all of the subsequent generation of kids who won't have the opportunity to learn basic job skills when that entire group of entry level positions disappear.

That's true.

And the smart ones... the ones that paid attention, could take "pieces" of what they learned and apply it in their life-long careers.

I hate their burgers, but I couldnt agree more with the ice, I wish you could find it more often.....seems like some gas stations and Sonic are the only places you can find that style......Ive always been someone who crunches on their ice in drinks, and as im gettin a tad older I could definitely use a helluva lot more sonic style ice lol.....its amazing my poor teeth are still intact haha
