I normally don't wade into Dak threads. Typically full of BS and bad information.

But this OP is right. Dak needs to be our difference maker. He's supposed to be the star.

At this point in his career, it shouldn't even be a question that he will pull off some magic. He's done it at times in the past. But he's just not that guy. He seems to be out of ideas.
Yup. If we could get the Stupids to stay out of the thread, we could have a real QB convo.

1. Qbs shouldn't have to "elevate" the team. That's the idea of a team, everybody comes together to get championships. Depending on the qb to make up for poor teammates or coaches is a fool's errand. How many "sure fire" top qbs were miserable failures? Leaf, Young, Lineart, etc. etc.
2. Those qbs are very rare, Russell Wilson has been praised as such, but I would note his SB appearances both came when he had the No. 1 overall defense. How's he doing at Denver? Why hasn't he "elevated the team" there? Did he forget how to play football? No, he had mucho help at Seattle to win those playoff games/SB. How many SBs did Rodgers win? ONE. Why didn't he win 2-3-4, all he has to do is "elevate the team".
3. So if Dak's the problem, he's in good company. Since Aikman left the Cowboys have had how many starting qbs? One was Drew Bledsoe, you all remember, don't you, he took his team to a Super Bowl? But did he win at Dallas? Nope.

The Dallas Cowboys inability to win a SB or conference championship game or even two playoff games in the same season rests squarely on the shoulders of one man -Jerry Jones....

We know the Cards game was an aberration.. we still have a great defence.. yes they had a bad game but they will be back.. they are too good not to be.

I have no problem in admitting Im a Homer.. and if you are playing for the Boys, then whilste you are I am 100% rooting for you.

Lets hope that Dak can dink and dunk all the way to the SB.. its been done before.

I get that people think many QB's can dink and dunk so why pay Dak top 10 $$.. thats fair.. but the QB we have this season is Dak.. so for the time being he's my QB and Im hoping he takes us all the way. I believe our D is good enough to give us the 1 in 32 chance that any team has to win the SB this year.

Yes Im a Cowboys homer.. always been one.. always will be one.
Brady was a dink and dunker. So was Montana. Mahomes was getting squushed in the playoffs before he learned to be a dink and dunker at times.

Being a dink and dunker is a positive. Makes it really hard for the other team to play D as the ball comes out very quickly. ARI just squushed us by dinking and dunking and running the ball. Very hard to defend against.

1. This is just not true.
2. Wilson has never been a team elevator.
3. True. But that doesn't mean we should just give up and be happy w/ 1 and dones.

Right now I am more worried about our CB situation than the QB situation.
Depends on Bland's development. Hopefully he's similar to Brady, somehow passed by multiple teams in the draft yet is a top player. Remember Treyvon did give up a lot of yards and catches, sooner or later that may be a problem, if Bland doesn't get the ints but receivers don't get first downs, that's nearly as good.

The thing is, in the first two games, the opposing offesesnes' quarterbacks were sacked and pressured nearly every play. That didn't happen in this game. Parsons is particular had an awful game, he was constantly out of position, got fooled by the play calling multiple times, as well. And the Cards' running backs blew up the middle of the Dallas defense all day, where was our no. 1 "run stuffing" draft pick? Hankins did pretty good, but Smith was supposed to fix the middle run defense.

Cousins is better. Mike got rid of KM so he could simplify the offense. He's seen enough of dak and knows that the best thing is to KISS for dak.
Exaclty as he should. Did Belichek put in an offense heavy on quarterback runs? Of course not, Brady's a terrible runner, that's not his skill set. Jimmy had Emmit Smith to run the ball, why didn't he throw the ball more? Because running Emmitt was the best way to win.

Dak ain't no Rodgers or Manning or Montana or such, if he was he'd have not lasted until the fourth round of the draft....

Agree, but it's more that he cannot go through his progressions quickly enough and doesn't see the field all that well.
I think Dak can "see" the field pretty well. The man called plays! I think his limitations are physical...he doesn't have the rubber arm of a passer. It's like a muscle bound pitcher in baseball...RARELY are they good. The best pitchers look like dads shopping in Michael's arts and crafts or Hobby Lobby. The same is true of QB - Brady, Rodgers, Montana, Staubach...I could go on. Even Aikman...he was so precise it was maddening, but he didn't have an arm where he could whip the ball, but he was so deadly accurate and consistent...it didn't matter.

Dak doesn't have the rubber arm and he's not consistent in his throws. Even that throw to Cooks...was late due to windup and rehearsed mechanics.

Ok, does anyone think Tony had trouble reading defenses? Of course not. But he was Tony Ohno or Tony Turnover because of pressure and expectations.

The West Coast offense is essentially dink and dunk....

Drinking and dunking is better than getting picked off in the endzone in triple coverage.

The irony is thick. its trolls like you with the sundrome. Lol

from rush to dak the offense went from #25 in the nfl to #1.

Duh, dak doesnt lift up the team. :lmao::laugh::lmao:
You're the guy comparing a guy who makes $40 million to a backup. Rush made some big throws in the Bengals game and one could argue that was their most impressive W of 2022. Go look at each game in 2022 and tell me how many Dallas won because of the QB elevating his game. I'll make it easy for you: Minnesota and Tampa (playoffs). That's it.

CDS is a serious condition where you see average to below average Cowboy players as elite. It's more of a common condition than one thinks!

One of the biggest concerns about Dak is his inability to elevate a team even when it's compromised. He's never really gotten over that hump and show that he's that dude. He's basically our version of Kirk Cousin's with a little more overall talent.
I will cut him some slack given the Oline injuries against Arizona but he needs to demonstrate it was an aberration and not a continuing trend or he will lose this fanbase pretty fast.
Dak's a cool dude but eventually the walk has to match the Talk.
Like Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson, Jimmy Garapolo, Ryan Tanneyhill, Andy Dalton, Jared Goff, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, etc? There are not many starting QBs in the NFL who elevate a team above what it actually is. Most teams hope for a competent QB who can execute when the team is built around them and protects them with an OL and decent defense. That's what most of the QBs listed have done throughout their careers. Even Troy Aikman, who was still healthy and could throw the ball as well as ever, looked like garbage as the team's OL, WRs, and defense fell apart around him. Dak is what he is. He's an above average player who can sometimes look great when protected and receivers get open. He's going to put up a stinker or two every season; Sunday was not a stinker. IF you are expecting more, you'll never be satisfied. IF you think we can get rid of him and somehow magically find the QB who will elevate the entire roster and win a SB without a really good OL and defense, join the rest of the NFL.

How long has the defense struggled to stop the run? How long have we lamented the age and fragility and lack of depth on the OL?
Believe me, regardless of anyone's opinion of Dak Prescott, fixing those two issues can be done much easier than finding an elite QB who elevates the entire team and can win without a strong supporting cast. My question isn't when will we go find the messiah, but why are we still struggling to stop the run and solidify the OL?

What game were you watching? Dak missed throws you simply can't miss if you're a top QB. He is supposed to be the veteran...the grizzled veteran who is calm in moments like these. The man was sweating niagara falls in the 4th quarter - as usual. His eye is bigger than his belly. You can't eat up 25% of the cap and then bemoan his 3 pro-bowl linemen who weren't there to prop him up. He's got a #1. He's got other weapons that other QBs would die for. He just doesn't know how to use them. Period.
Dak was amazing until the final
Pass. Game was over anyway.

You clearly have no idea what you are watching.

He does not have more overall talent than Kirk Cousins. Kirk actually has more, as his mechanics are way better minimum.

Game was over anyways, but in 2020 he was on pace to throw for over 6000 yards and he would have been 5-0 if he had more time in those games... Man, I thought you fanboys couldn't come up with anymore excuses. Now that last INT didn't even matter, because the game was over, even though there were over 3 minutes left if they scored...

I would certainly agree that Sunday's game was a cluster of mistakes by a lot of folks and it was far from the worst game Dak has played. However, you are supposed to have a decided advantage when you have an eight year starter at the most important position and the opponent has a journeyman looking for his first win.

Dobbs got his team out of situations like you listed above to keep drives alive. Every QB faces these issues. Dak doesn't overcome them enough. That's the frustration.
Dak is an 8 year starter, the 135th overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Dobbs is a journeyman.....the 135th overall pick in the 2017 draft.

I'm not trying to make a point in response to your statement. I just thought that fact had more than just a little irony to it.

Pick was terrible, but the game was over.

At the time of the pick there was 3 minutes left. Cardinals got the ball and ran out the clock.

There was NO ONE open on that play so if he throws it away, we have one more down to score. Something we had trouble doing all day. Even if we score we have to stop the Cards with 3 minutes to go then march down the field and score a TD. And since the Cards ran out the clock it would have been moot anyway.

You can make up whatever fantasies you want. Dak played great considering all the issues the offense had and 3 pro bowler out on the line.

Anyone that blames Dak is a total and complete football dunce. Guys like Dak were the ONLY think keeping the Cowboys in the game. Dak, Pollard, Gallup.

He was incredible on 3rd down extending drives with clutch throws and with his legs.

Go watch the game again if you can remember properly. Ive watched it 3 times. Feel free to bring up whatever you want Dak did poorly. Specific plays.

Time will tell, I want Dak to succeed and this may be his best chance to do it. If we don't improve in the playoffs and Dak is part of the reason, then the QB position really needs to be reevaluated.
