I agree.

Because the ownership has never allowed competition with Romo by never drafting or signing a competent QB..

we have been forced to commit a decade to Romo and never got the benefits of winning anything.

That shortly over with.

im Romo fan thru and thru but I'd like to see Romo become a QB coach and help Dak out if Romo goes down again or can't compete anymore. I hope the best for him though. Be nice to see him get an SB but thats highly unlikely unfortunately. Dak is our future and I like it.

What I learned was that, after 4 games, Dak is more mature, focused, poised, and committed to winning than Tony Romo was after 5 years in the league.

Dak does not make impulsive throws with the game on the lines, he takes great care of the ball. He understands the big picture so he will never make a comment to the effect that losing a playoff game isn't that big of a deal in a person's life.

Dak won't take a trip down to a beach resort during a playoff bye. He won't have a celebrity girlfriend show up at a game to create publicity and add incentive to an opponent.

Dak is never going to be told that he has to take a leadership role with the team. He is a leader today and no one is going to have to teach him
And I don't think Dak will have 5-interception days like Romo has had or average 11 INTs per season or have 117 career INTs over 13 seasons.
Dak does not seem to be a gunslinger, a good thing.
More and more Dak reminds me of Aikman. Another good thing.

Dak has effectively solved the most important positional depth issue...and that at quarterback.

Almost all evaluators will have to agree at this point.

As to Dak getting the reigns for the entire season, no, that hasn't occurred as yet. Tony Romo has earned that and a change of bus pass will be issued to fans, who merely want to change buses when that point arrives this season. Sorry, the money and team confidence still remains in Tony. But that won't be the end of all storylines, although.

The team has found it's quarterback of the future. How long Tony remains at the head of the reigns, will be dependent upon his performances, solely. How long he stays, will be determined upon cash flow and how much he justifies a team draining cap position, in the now. A cheap quarterback at the helm, will allow for growth at many money driven positions as well.

There is a reckoning in the now, but the length of duration will then be all upon the shoulders of Tony.

IMO..

Romo"s career isn't over.

But it is shifting.

His days as the undisputed starter are gone.

But he could finish out his deal as the backup.

And given the unpredictable nature of the game..

Still end up playing in meaningful games should DAK go down like he did

Steve Berelein backed up Aikman and got the team into the playoffs and Aikman came back.

Aikman lost his first start in the playoffs but after that..we know the rest.

So it's not all or nothing here.

As Jerrah said today..we have a fortunate QB situation developing.

I have no malaise towards Tony..he's given everything he could to keep us relevant.

But like in he Old West..

There comes a time when a faster younger gun shows up and you have to move aside.

I'll just gladly watch as 'no quarterback depth' chokes quite a few around the joint...

Its Tonys job when he is healthy. He has this year and next will be the transition year. Make no mistake, follow the money.
We have lucked into his eventual replacement, but all that has changed is that Romos "5 year window" is now 2.

1. Daks Poise and Patience...we definitely have our QB of the Future. Competition should start next year for the starting spot. He can still learn from watching Romo if and when Romo is totally healthy. There still no need to rush him back as long as we keep winning.

2. Dez's "immaturity" is not a ME OVER TEAM immaturity. Yes he can handle some situations better, but he clearly still loves football, and he loves this team. His passion for the game has not left him since getting paid.

3. As Mo Claiborne continues to gain confidence, he is only going to get better. He is the only CB on our team who looks for the ball while it is in the air, and his fundamentals are better than decent. We hurt his development a lot putting him a lot with our early defensive scheme in his early years. Mo is a man corner. Mo was the reason we stopped our first drive today when the game could have gotten out of hand, and he balled out int he 4th to secure the victory when Butler tried to mess that up. (More on this later).

4. Zekes patience is gradually coming. He still needs to develop a little more patience, and then the league should beware.

5. For all those who question Dez's WR ability and think that Beasley is our best receiver....evidently opposing Defenses still think Dez is our number 1 guy. Beasley saw more attention than he has seen in the NFL. He all but disappeared until the last play to seal the game, and then the Niners D was as shocked as I was that the Cowboys called an unexpected play to seal the game. Side note..Our outside WR saw more action than they seen in a while. It truly proves that Dak is not whistling dixie when he says he goes through his progressions and throws to the open man.

6. All of our receivers (including TE) need to up their situational football thinking ability: Taunting Penalties, Not getting out of bounds, Fighting for needless yards and fumbling or getting injured, False starts....Somethings got to give.

Just my few pennies....

Beaz had 3 receptions for 66 yards but the average was 22 yards per, not bad for getting all that attention with the last reception being the game!

If Romo was healthy we'd be 4-0. Dax has been great, but Romo is better. I can understand the argument about - well we arent winning this year so let Dax grow - but in the NFL no team that is 3-1 is going to say "we aren't winning this year, so..."

Nor should they.

You play to win today. Romo gives us the best chance to do that today, unless his body says otherwise. So Romo gets to come back and start. If he wins, he continues to start. End of story. Jerry doesn't get to decide. Jerry's a babbling idiot.

What I learned was Romo has lost his job.

After the game..

Jerrah was asked again if Romo was going to be the starter when he was healthy..

For the first time Jerrah said "we'll have to see"""

That's a very different answer Han 2 days ago.

Romo has been demoted.
that indeed is a different answer

Lawrence will be an extremely important piece for Dak. Because the team will be facing offenses that aren't going to fold as easily.

Dak made plays Sunday and was a major reason why the team won. But the defense ended up frustrating the 9er's offense, like other teams had done this season. So while Dak was steady and at time brilliant in his leadership and play, there has to be an acknowledgement this was not New England with Brady the team faced.

Cincinnati will be a good test. It would be nice if Dez made an appearance.

Wow, still SMH with all the anti-Romo post. People sure quickly forget how Romo has carried us while our coach is in training. I like Dak a lot and do believe we have our QB of the future but I am not so quick to just discard Romo.

Thought the secondary as a whole played well yesterday, Church was a tackling machine yesterday.

What makes yesterday special, was not only the comeback, but the fact with all the people we were missing we should have lost, but Dak just takes who's ever out there and pulls them together. Once again, at Romo's age his past years cannot effect who gets the starting gig, you can only base the starting job on Romo's performance last year vs Dak this year, there is no competition, it's obvious. You let Dak continue to grow and next season he's ready for playoff action.

Even Jerry had to admit this ...finally.

Almost everytime Anthony Brown has been targeted he'll snap his head back to try and locate the ball.

Thank you. I was going to say the same thing. We may have a player in A.B.
I like what I see. He has very good technique. I hear guys complaining about his holding, but good corners know how to hold and not get caught. That's part of good technique.

As he gets more and more experience, he's going to be a good one. We may have gotten a steal with him.

The thing that is clear to me is the secondary is playing with a lot more swagger. Even Wilcox had great coverage and broke up a play yesterday. It's probably a combination of the promotion of Eberflus and addition of Jackson.

He gets the game ball. Talk about poise..... outstanding for a rook.

I love Beas but he effectively got shut down.

I did love his awareness to let up to retain possession to end the game, rather than scoring and giving the 9ers the ball back no matter the small odds of them coming back.

Great post, I've never understood by people think an elite athlete playing a violent game would have the personality of the cast of "Friends".

I don't need him to have the personality of a cast member of Friends.

I just need him to show up on time for meetings and such, like you know, almost 98% of the league does.

He reminds me so much of Michael Irvin in that type of immaturity level. Really the only difference between him and Michael Irvin was Michael Irvin left no room for being second best. His work ethic and will to win are 3x anything Dez has shown and Dez seems to have the same will. He just doesn't have the same dedication that Irvin did. There aren't many who ever had. (Emmitt, Aikman, Rice, Lott, Sweetness, Witten, etc)

Given all Dez's want and will to win. It's just not there all the time. He is apt to vanish at any time. He just doesn't always impose his will on the other team. He becomes lax.

He has the talent too be, but he just definitely is not a top 5 WR in this league right now. He just lacks the drive to be ranked that high.
