A realistic look at our playoff hopes

It's not, but it's tough to win out the back half of the season. I mean, the Rams got submarined by that same Panthers team that beat us earlier this year.
We typically get beat up this time of the year playing 4 games in 17 days. We got lucky this year. Not so much for Detroit. We are lucky to play Thursday and not Sunday.

They can prove it by corralling Gibbs and Montgomery...who look to be a HUGE part of the offense Thursday night. If Dallas can "limit" that duo and win the turnover battle I think they win. I fully expect Dan Campbell to go buck wild with his fourth down gambles. When he does, the defense needs to make him pay. Fake punts...sneaky on-side kicks...funky formations...trick plays...he will empty the tank...mostly because he knows that Lamb and Pickens are probably going to get theirs. I'm hoping that (for once) Prescott can get the offense on the scoreboard early and avoid a first quarter INT or fumble. That's part of his game that he needs to clean up. Play downhill for a change.
If we score early and get a lead, we can take away their run game.

Agreed. It feels weird to actually get some injured players back. Success down the back stretch often comes down to which teams are the most healthy. Hopefully, it keeps up.

in the 16 game format 1978 to 2021 there was only one 11 game winner that did not make the playoffs
even with an extra game, winning 11 and not making it is very unlikely
Whether it’s us or someone else it is very likely to happen this year IF (stressing if) we get to 11 wins

That’s all we can do anyway is win our games and hope for help. If we win out, the egirls need to win 4 of 5. If we lose 1, they only have to win 3 of 5, and so on.

We have a shot. But the margin for error is razor thin.
I think if we win out, the Eagles have to lose two games.

Let's see, winning out makes us 11-5-1
Eagles winning 4 of 5 would make them 12-5

Sorry, Bobsy, they'd have to lose 2 and we win out.

After the Titan game SF has three teams in the playoff hunt.

What people aren't counting is what that last weekend entails for an opponent and if they have a position locked and they stash players.

KC did that to Cincy last year.

I have a horrible feeling that we are going to miss the playoffs at 11-5-1 because 1/2 of a second wouldn't tick off the clock at the end of the GB game.

its only happened once before and you think its likely this year?

This might be come a weekly topic.

This Cowboys 3.0 version team is giving the board a buzz not felt the past 2 months.

Focus, concentrate, game plan and take care of business on only this 1 game on the road.

Come on Cowboys!

And you say this so confidently based on what? I mean the Jets started the year 0-7
I'm not quite sure why that's the question. Aaron Glenn was hired beginning of this year. Would he come in thinking rebuild without seeing what he's got.Trade dead line came he made a decision. I don't know that's accurate but it seems feasible. If you have a different opinion I'll listen

true IF we win out which is a lot harder than those saying it want to admit
Man, I don’t think that anyone thinks winning 8 in a row will be easy, just necessary. So many things need to go our way: Limited injuries, timely (or untimely, depending on perspective) officiating calls, CATCHING THE FOOTBALL, etc. #4 is doing a good job keeping the team motivated, and he’s a pretty gritty guy. Less chance of defensive guys getting full of themselves just based on how the new defense has been constructed, plus the return of Overshown and the rise of Revel aren’t areas where you’d expect guys’ egos to be a problem.

The Cowboys middle name has been "Bad Luck" since Jerry ran Jimmy off. Prepare yourself for this to be a real possibility.
I think the probability of us getting to 11 wins is lower than the probability of getting into the playoffs with 11 wins. There are a lot of matchups among playoff contenders over the remaining weeks. I'll be surprised if someone who makes it doesn't have fewer than 12 wins (and no, not a division winner, since the Bucs might).
