I didn't get a chance to hang in the chat room today because I went to the bar to watch the game but here's what I think:
  • Romo looked sharp and it excites me all to hell when he's on like that. I was laughing out loud on the duck under two tackles and throw to Crayton for the TD play. His fist pump at the end of that had me psyched.
  • Miles makes me smile.
  • I'm still not overly concerned about Romo trying to hook up with Roy but I'm getting there.
  • I'd like to get back to Witten in the endzone some.
  • Any idea why TC saw so little action other than us scoring fast?
  • I thought Rossum was going to do punts too? Stop with Newman on punts, that scared the hell out of me.
  • Defense was pretty good, sacks are coming, Jenkins is convincing me and T New's hit on that dude along the side line made me stand up. I need a replay of that.
  • Brooking is fun to watch, passion with shoulder pads.
  • When Hos mentioned we go as Romo goes I think what we're looking for is that one guy that steps up when Romo is off. I think we have that with the 3 headed monster in the backfield...I think its just more that we've shot ourselves in the foot with mistakes and penalties in the games we've lost. If Romo is off and we're not stupid out there the running game can take care ofus.
  • Penalties again still an issue and I don't think this will ever go away until Wade goes away. If it was ever going to happen the discipline would have been there long ago. The penalty on Bowen on 3rd down keeping ATL's drive alive just kills me, kills me.
  • I'm not going crazy...it was a solid win, they looked prepared and confidence appears to be growing forward.
  • C'mon Arizona!
I can't disagree with you about we need someone to step up when Romo is off and to me that someone is the entire Defense. There's really no excuse for this Defense not to be better than they have been. Today was the first day they have truly been a difference in the game this season. We need to see more pressure, more sacks, and more takeaways from the Defense for the whole season.

I wish the Defense could feed off each other. I don't know how anyone can play with Ratliff and not be fired up. He fires me up and I am not someone who jumps out of his chair at every good play.

btw, besides the 2 poor throws by Tony that Roy couldn't get to

what did Roy do today? besides a couple of drops, and being limited to 1 reception for 16 yards

What did he do?? He got called on a bogus PI, he had two near misses, and one that he was literally one inch from breaking.

His two drops... one of them I don't fault him for because it was fit into a tight spot and he was about to get rocked. It would have been the first hit he took since hurting his ribs. The other one, just a bad play by Roy.

More than any other position WR is about rhythm. If you don't get into the game early, you get to where you feel like you're running around out there for no reason, and you can get lost. It's pretty clear that Roy and Romo still need to work on synching up.

But I'm not gonna sit here and say Roy sucks because he had a couple drops and one catch for 16 yards. It seriously feels like it's just a matter of time, because there seem to be so many near misses. Yeah, I can understand it's been 16 games now and we should be seeing results. But I feel like it's coming.

Great post Hostile. I very much enjoy reading your concise, educated reports.

If I may add one thing to our running game; although it wasn't one of our strengths this week, it was encouraging to see Felix almost break one, and neither of the 3 hobbling off the field. I see them performing far more up to speed next week against Seattle.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but I feel we can breathe a sigh of relief and feel very good about our chances next week, before we face a hostile crowd in Philly. We're definately going to need our RBs healthy against their secondary, who I believe have 11 ints on the year already.

Sleep well tonight Cowboy fans!

Btw, good post hostile. At the end of the day the cowboys got a much needed win. I think Roy can be a cotributor on this team, I just think overall, when you look at money and the overall package, Roy just wasn't worth what we gave up to get him. I was very dissapointed last year when we picked him up last year because I thought it hurt austin's development. However, I have always said with Tony romo on this team you don't need #1 receiver nut some guys that can make some plays and get open. How Manu of the past super bowl winners featured hall of fame recievers?

Also another question, the balls Roy dropped, don't you think crayton catches those? I'm scared that guys like Roy and barber are taking away from others because of money.

I'm gonna say It, miles Austin is the 2nd most important player on the offense behind Tony romo. I will also say as far as importance, he is right up there with Demarcus ware.

That's another way to look at it and I'd have to agree. I think it's coming...the sacks and INT's are coming...it's going in the right direction.

I don't think it's wise to over react to a bad day by any player. Just a few weeks ago our secondary was the worst coverage unit in the NFL. Do you think the Falcons would agree if you asked them tomorrow?

Look, Roy has to produce. No one saying that is wrong. I just think when a guy becomes a whipping boy for the fans that it gets ridiculous. I tend to defend those players. As evidence see Tony Romo just 2 weeks ago. I defended him every thread.

There are people making all kinds of issues about my comments on Roy blocking. I'll throw this out there as a challenge to these guys or anyone else. I got a thousand dollars that says I can show posts where I praised TO and Keyshawn for their blocking downfield. In other words, I have consistently praised that ability in our WRs who do it well. I have 4 detractors in this thread. $250 bucks apiece if they will take the bet.

You know they won't. That would show nads and be honest. That isn't par for the course.

The difference is Keyshawn and TO have never been the whipping boys that fans go after relentlessly. The thing I have not learned after all these years is that when the parrots want to squawk let them squawk. They don't say anything worth listening to anyway. I can't help myself. I defend the players at almost every turn. That's my fault.

You know what Hutch, the players on this team have been saying that. Even if you don't want to listen to the GM or the coaches, why would the fans not listen to the players? I don't get that. They are not giving up and there is a reason for that.

Please don't say that is true of all teams. Look at the Commanders. Is Clinton Portis speaking the same language as the Cowboys players are? I don't think anyone can look me in the eye and say that and pass a lie detector test.

I get it that people need to vent. I would just like to see venting without hyperbole attached.

Roy is on pace for 749 receiving yards and 3 TDs

blocking from a WR is a bonus, esp. in an offense that passes to set up the run

Are you going to take the bet, or try and spin doctor this discussion into something else after you insisted on making that topic an issue in this thread? Never mind, I already know the answer.

No, I don't have posts bookmarked where I praised TO or Keyshawn for blocking. But I know for a fact I did it and will find it if there's any guts to take the bet. Why? Because, I know I am consistent.

You won't be surprised when I say I'm not shocked. It didn't surprise me to see the 3 of you and your petty responses. I could have made book on it.

The thing is that they're crowing not about a Cowboys' victory, but about a Cowboys' player having a terrible game. Think about that for a minute. That's ok, though, because, as you said
" My how the pendulum swings. "

Eventually, maybe as soon as next week, or the week after that, Roy Williams will have an excellent game and the Cowboys will win again.

Perhaps then, just like the so called experts in here that were calling the Cowboys' front office idiots for not signing wide receivers like Matt Jones, or for not bringing in anybody who could start over the " unproven garbage " that we have ( you know: Hurd, Crayton and this guy named Miles ), this Roy Williams experts will quickly change the subject as well.

I don't know how to express how thankful I am for Joe DeCamillis. Remember when Jerry and Wade were over rating him? Remember when a few posters said "bring back Bruce Read?" Those posters should be mooned by a chorus of fat people. I used to dread special teams. Now, I just need to dread the Prevent Defense. Okay, I already ranted about that and will move on. I trust our Special Teams. I can't believe I am saying that.

I know half of the fun of your hostility posts is making fun of those that guessed wrong, but when in the world did anyone beg for Bruce Read to come back? :laugh2:

I think most people were ready to take torches and pitchforks to Read.

I'm not going to take that bet, because I'm not going to continue your fantasy of deflecting how disappointing he's been as a receiver, and placing it on a bonus, as some kind of legitimate defense

does the fact that Roy is a great blocker in a passing offense, make him worth the picks and contract? hell no

I don't give a **** how great of a blocker he is, that's not going to earn back his contract

No one is denying (not even Hostile) that Roy needs to produce better.

Problem is, there's a variety of factors that are going on as to why Roy hasn't produced elite numbers, like many want.

1. the run game. This game, it wasn't there. But for the most part, so far.... we've been running the ball at will. Many here wanted that... so in doing so, you've got to expect stats (in the passing game) to drop when you run the ball as effectively as we have.

2. Romo was off for some games. That will affect Roy's stats.

3. Roy's missed some opportunities. Those are on him.

4. Austin has exploded the past 2 weeks. Would you go away from Austin to throw to Roy? Not with the way Austin has played the past 2 weeks.

Yes, when Roy gets his opportunities; he needs to capitalize. But there have been times where Romo hasn't made a good throw (this game, for example), that hasn't allowed Roy too.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Clearly, Romo is more comfortable with throwing to Witten and Austin. And I don't think I'd blame Romo for feeling that way. As stated before, Austin is exploding right now.... throw it to him. And let's be honest, Witten is a better player than Williams, so why wouldn't Romo look to Witten before Williams?

Personally, I blame the run game. If only it sucked more, then we could get Roy the stats....
