Don't forget that nothing happens without Mr. Jones' input.
Like with Carter, Jones had some emotional investments tied to Bryant as well and I am sure it was not an easy decision.
But when a player forces an issue, sometimes you have to do what you can.
I am sure the Bengals regret unloading Corey Dillon, and I am sure there are times when Minnesota might miss Moss. But sometimes the lockerroom presence is underrated and not factored in by us fans on the outside. And let's be careful here, the talent is not in the Dillon/Moss league either. Otherwise, we would have exhibited more patience. If Coach Parcells was not willing to overlook the immaturity, we should not fret about it.
When I read statements like in the article where he is talking about "speaking out" and so forth, that suggests to me he is in fact NOT maturing and is still doing things his way and still has good deal of growing up to do:
"Every year I have been in the league I've gone through changes," Bryant said. "My first year, I had (Dave) Campo, the next year we got Bill (Parcells), and the next year I had Bill for a half a season. I came here with Butch (Davis) and his staff, and now this year I have Romeo (Crennel). So every year I'm looking for continuity, a consistent offense, a consistent quarterback, that's all."
Nothing is his fault. It is the system. The number of coaches. The lack of continuity. Poor QBing.
Same old Antonio.
Deflecting blame and not being a man. There are very few situations in this league that lend itself to the best continuity, stable coaching and good QBing. There comes a time and a place to be accountable and he has never demonstrated that kind of self-awareness.
