Someone can be "intelligent" AND "not too bright" at the same time, if you ask me. They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive attributes.

Please read ABs quotes in the original article.
I can't find anything in the quotes that indicate a lack of 'brightness'. Cliches perhaps, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. Bryant may not make the best decisions in the world, so if you're saying that he lacks common sense, then I may be inclined to agree with you.

well said. I always remember those plays he made, but then I remember how many drops he had, and how many excuses he had. He's #3 in Clevland too. He's about to see how a real young WR should act, Braylon is going to make AB realize what an idiot he is.

I don't think anyone forgets those plays.

But those were two plays that stood out because we were so bad. Good teams and good players make those plays with more frequency, that is what makes them good.

I think our teams are so bad for so long that anything remotely exceptional gets latched onto by us, who are starved for it.

Look at Woodrow Dantzler. He has made one kickoff return into folk hero status. Bryant is not that much different when you look at the sum of his accomplishments.

YOu could maybe go back at look and see about 5 times as many drops as he did these "amazing" catches everyone claims makes him so great. If he was so good then why did the Browns draft another WR in FIRST round. even worse in the top 5(#3)

Yeah, we're probably not too far apart on this.

Remember when he answered a reporter's question using a "cocaine" analogy during an interview in his rookie season? There's no doubt he definitely should consider taking Common Sense 101 at the local community college.

I agree...where is the whining in this?

He's stating matter of factly that he has NOT had any consistency with systems or coaches his entire time in the NFL.

Whining? No. Hoping for some sort of consistency? Yes.

He'll have it when Romeo Crennel sticks around after this year.

THEN, we'll see how things go.

I didn't read into anything where AB was whining either. Anyway,

That is whining.

Or at the very least excuse making.

I found it amusing that he was talking like this

"I make plays when given the opportunity," he said. "It's just all about taking advantage of how many opportunities present themselves. The best way to make opportunities is be consistent in practice and just be humble, and when it comes it's kind of like a flow. They just keep bringing it to you because they depend on you. Until then, you can do only as much as you can do."

when he did just the opposite during his stay in Dallas.

He made two big plays. Other than that, he dropped passes and generally was more part of the problem than a solution.

His "humility" that he speaks of was manifested in a jersey toss in the face of a Hall of Fame coach.

He is an idiot. Sorry.

Troubled Browns receiver showing signs of maturity
By Carlos "Big C" Holmes

For the Dayton Daily News

The story of Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Bryant and the controversy that surrounds him is one that has been told like a tall tale around a campfire. From his playing days at the University of Pittsburgh where reports of sideline temper tantrums and off-the-field problems plagued him, to the pros where he was kicked out of Cowboys practice after arguing with coaches. His character issues eventually landed him in Cleveland via trade, and he's looking to make a fresh start.

Drafted by Dallas in the second round in 2002, Bryant enters his fourth year not having lived up to his potential. In three seasons, he has accumulated 141 receptions for 2,095 yards and 12 touchdowns, which are decent numbers for an average receiver, but for a one-time Biletnikoff Award winner and consensus All-American, more is expected.

The blame for lack of numbers doesn't fall solely on the shoulders of the once-dominant receiver. In his defense, he has had to deal with some adversity in his short career.

"Every year I have been in the league I've gone through changes," Bryant said. "My first year, I had (Dave) Campo, the next year we got Bill (Parcells), and the next year I had Bill for a half a season. I came here with Butch (Davis) and his staff, and now this year I have Romeo (Crennel). So every year I'm looking for continuity, a consistent offense, a consistent quarterback, that's all."

The Browns made several changes over the off-season to insure that there will be some consistency on offense. Bringing in veteran QB Trent Dilfer should help the team's cause tremendously.

Known primarily for his playmaking ability in college, Bryant remains optimistic that he can be the same playmaker at the pro level.

Everyone in the league knows what the volatile receiver is capable of while on the field; however, it's the things that take place while off the field that are cause for concern. Although Bryant has been a model citizen for the Browns thus far, there are still those who feel that it's just a matter of time before the outspoken receiver erupts like Mt. St. Helens. Those nonbelievers may be waiting a long time to see the eruption because, according to Bryant, he has put all the negatives behind him.

"As long as you're doing something, somebody is going to have something to say," he said. "If I was doing nothing I would just be another guy in the locker room with a number. I'm trying to do something here so there are going to be some things said. When you shake some things up some people don't always agree with that. But if you look at it, that's how people are made. You know, the people who aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in and go against the grain and get things done."

Bryant was one mellow fellow in the locker room during minicamp and may just be misunderstood because of the passion that he has for the game. He welcomes the challenge of being a leader as well as leading the offense to prominence. That being said, his maturity level appears to be reaching heights needed for him to be recognized for his performance on the field rather than off.

I dont see any complaining here. Inconsistency at quarterback can kill a young wide receivers' chances of being successful. Let's see...

Quincy Carter...

Chad Hutchinson..

Quincy Carter again...

Vinny Testeverde....

Jeff Garcia....

Yep, I would expect any offense, let alone the wide outs to have problems.

Good luck to ya Bryant!!!

Funny thing about that whole speech is that he said similar things before this past off season.

I remember him being on the ticket and thinking man he sounds like he finally turned it around....I think he even went so far as to say something to the effect of him knowing better then to get into it with Bill.

Then bang it happened.

I think he means to go into things with the right attitude but he just can not control himself when things do not go his way.

It is a pattern he has had in college and in the pros so far.

Which is sad because I think he has the talent to do things, just does not have the right mentality to keep himself out of trouble.

He is the kind of guy that the only person that hurts his future.....is antonio yet he will try to use excuses to try and pass it on to others.

Amen, Brain.

He made excuses in school.

Some took exception to the scandal he was involved with concerning airline tickets or what have you.

There was an excuse there--he was supposedly going to see children or some charity event, if I recall correctly.

He is one excuse after another. If anyone buys into it, then they are quite foolish.

Coach Parcells didn't.

And apparently Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel did not either since they took Braylon Edwards.

I really wonder if he has a mental disorder or something.

Another classic!

I don't know if it qualifies as whining, but that paragraph above is the clearest example I have ever seen of the use of indefinite pronouns (something, nothing, anybody, somebody) to say zilch. His use of 'some" and "things" would put any middle school student to shame. Too bad he left out "stuff".

Gotta love it. :)

bryant's comments were clearly aimed at members of his fan club, and I hear both of them were pleased.

I am adding him to my list of Americans who went against the grain to get things done. It looks like this..

Unibomber
Jim Jones
Nixon
Captain of the Titanic
Coach who cut Michael Jordan in high school
Antonio Bryant

There, he's earned his place in history.

Tell ya what, now be objective...forget about the whining stuff...etc...

Two years ago...Monday Night Football...seconds left in regulation..QC throws a sideline pattern (run perfectly) to Bryant, who took a big hit, got his feet in bounds and set up the game tying FG that put the game into OT...which we eventually won.

Who thinks Morgan makes that catch?

Who thinks we had a QB who made a comeback necessary by throwing a gimme interception for a TD to Frank Walker that put us in position to lose in the first place?

That was a great play and throw, but that was a sandlot play by a sandlot QB and WR who are basically birds of a feather.

Good riddance to both.

Hey you really cant count that, because You cant go back and say oh yea that coach was stupid because he cut one of the greatest players of all time
By cutting michael that gave him the exrta incentive to work harder and to go on and be the player he was of the 90's.
