Schefter did drop in a nugget saying that Murray may give Dallas one last chance to counter.

This is all a ploy by him and his people. To try and get the most money they can from Dallas. What better way than to bait them with an offer from your hated division rival you play twice a year every year?

I hope we don't bite. Let him go and move on. Tired of hearing about him. Let him go have season altering fumbles somewhere else.

DeMarco and Dez: How to alienate your superstars, Dallas style.

The Cowboys aren't in the appeasing players business. That only leads to bad contracts and being smothered in dead money. They're trying to run a football team that can have long term sustained success. I salute being reluctant to hand out big FA deals to anyone.

Great. More Peterson threads when he is still the property of the Vikings and will cost as much, if not more, than what Murray wanted. I cannot wait.

Still the property? Yes. For now.

But when the coach and GM travel to his home, meet for 4 hours and no good news comes out of it? Not a good sign.

And when the player then travels to New York - commercial, on his own dime - to meet with the owners, and no good news comes out of it? Not a good sign.

However it shakes out in the end, in my opinion he will not be in Minnesota in 2015.

And his desire to play for the Cowboys is already on record.

I am surprised and impressed by the Cowboys standing firm and not buckling on their stance in dealing with Murray.

Wonder what the next move will be???

Lose a couple more players to free agency, I'm sure. I'll say it right now, Stephen Jones is an absolute idiot for offering Murray only $5 million per. This will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in team history and some of you will have to face yourselves in the mirror and admit you haven't got a clue about what it takes to build a championship team.

I guess free agency has to be completely over before people understand that there is not some tsunami of cheap talent coming in to save the offseason.

I think that's just the fun of the offseason. Spinning the wheel and getting some new players.

They blew it with mb3. I like this move.

Only guys out there hurting us are like amendola fasano, and ware. Maybe eric walden too?

I think there are many good options in the draft to find a replacement. David Johnson is particularly intriguing. But, they have a lot of other holes to tend to.

I would prefer the draft as well. The only problem is that this defense should and probably will demand the lion's share of the choices.

There is still time to shore up weak areas in free agency, but if this goes down, Dallas needs to get to work immediately on that so the draft is not basically about filling gaping holes.

Agreed. This is the only sane way to do business.

I was fine with bringing Murray back for 3 years, 18 million. Beyond that, no thanks.

Dez will be unhappy , if he is at all, until his new deal is signed.

Mixed emotions on Murray. Would like him to stay , but if he leaves it's to me $$$$ and we will see if he replicates his last several years performances with a new team.

Kansas City probably thought the same thing about Priest Holmes. Denver fans probably thought Shanahan was crazy for trading a 23 year old star in Clinton Portis. Running games are a system not about the players. Unless you have Peterson or Barry Sanders that can make plays from nothing.

Good point. There are special RBs and there are good RBS that thrive in a good system.

In the words of Michael Irvin yesterday:

“There is a mentality that goes on with a certain group of guys and DeMarco fits the mentality of what Dallas is doing.”

“A lot of people…are talking out of their booty if they think they could stick just anybody back there.”

It won't. He's a RB facing the wrong side of his football age with a consistent injury history. I love Murray but this is the smart decision.

I just wonder how many people who are applauding the dollars saved with Murray will switch gears when they turn around and pay just as high of a price for Peterson.

So do I.

What's the alternative, pay huge money to your QB, RB, and WR and then not be able to field the rest of a team?

No thanks.

I ask anyone advocating to tell me what other teams are doing it, much less successful ones.

The fact is that nobody, not one single team is paying their quarterback, running back, and wide receiver top money at the same time.

Why? Because it's unaffordable and financially reckless and does not lead to success.

That depends on what you consider 'high price' to be?

What's your limit there?
