I think 4m is too high, B. He wasn't good last season, and 4m is good money. Like others have said, if he takes a deal around 2m w incentives, then I'd do it. Doubt he does, tho.
4m is nothing these days.......it is 2.5% of the cap

I would also sign J Charles if KC cuts him and run the Wishbone

And that was with him getting benched early in the season and missing 1.5 games at the end of it. This is the problem with taking a RB high. You have to baby them or your investment is short-lived.

People here seem confused...I wonder if there had been someone talking about this issue before the draft last year...

I talked about the value of taking a RB high in the draft and the ramifications of shelf life of the position, if that is what you are asking.

I don't really believe you can preserve players at the position. No great RB I've ever seen or been around is OK with this. They all want the ball and they all want it every play. If you don't give them carries, they eventually leave to go to another Offense. You gotta play em while you can an hope that they last. You can limit their carries a bit but you can't really stop them from wanting the ball.

Signing AD doesn't prevent the Eagles from taking a running back. Sproles is retiring and Mathews may not be there next year. They're going to need a few backs.

But I agree with you. I don't want to see Cook or Fournette or Mixon on the Eagles or Giants, though I doubt the Giants will take a back in the first round with Paul Perkins coming on strong at the end of the season. Nor, of course, do I see Cook or Fournette dropping that far in the draft.

Fournette or Mixon would be much worse on the Eagles than AD, totally agree, Tyke

don't you think that's kinda disrespectful to felix jones?
The laugh this got out of me caused a colleague to come by my office to see what the joke was. Of course she didn't get it. Not many real Cowboys' fans in Bermuda lol.

RB2 is one position that depth plays a lot....it is not like backup OG or WR5 or LB5

Plus we save 1.6m by cutting AMorris......no brainer if AD agrees

Hey if he's willing to sign a team friendly deal I don't see why not. Zeke isn't going to get 100% of the carries AD or not. I see no reason why providing insurance there for injury would be a bad thing.

The same people who say Zeke is critical to our success last year should want a backup who could try to replicate such success either when Zeke needs to be spelled or because of injury...no?

People can't have their cake and eat it too.

Zeke needs a backup runner about as much as Emmitt did. He's a 3 down back. Hopefully we will use him as such this year. McFadden is fine as an occasional backup or the draft is strong this year for rb and cheaper. We have bigger needs for the cap

It would make no sense Peterson coming here to backup Zeke unless there's concerns about Zeke's domestic violence investigation if it's still ongoing. The last I heard in mid January there still wasn't any closure. The Cowboys still could be concerned of a suspension and want to be prepared.
good point. I keep trying to forget about that

Remember how supposedly AP told Jerry he wants to play here....now is the time to see if he really meant that. I know it's contract value and playing time over just wanting to play here.
But he is an aging RB, getting near that RB wall. So will a team pay him big money, long term. Or will he be willing to take less, and a back up role, that can still contribute. And help us get to a SB, as opposed to playing for bigger money on a team that is further away.

however, I hate that a team like NYG or Philly or Washington going after him on a 2 year deal.
Id jump in him at McFadden or Morris salary. Not much of a downside to that. Smaller amount of carries could extend his effectivness and make for a much smaller dropoff when we give Elliott a breather. Also one of the downsides of going young at that backup position, is you usually lose a 3 down back inserting your backup, which IMO has become an underrated quality. One of the reason why we shouldnt be so quick to cast McFadden aside. You dont want a pass blocking liability on the field
