We do? We have a proven failure and some scrubs. You call that depth?
Proven failure as a STARTING RB. McFadden has been a respectable backup, the same with Randle.

lol at you 2 talking up DMC and Dunbar.
lol at you 2 talking up DMC and Randle. Only thing Randle is good at is stealing underwear. Both will probably be out of the league in a year.
So looking back at HoF RB over the years you have Sweetness, Emmitt, and Curtis Martin who were able to carry the load post age 29 and then you have everyone else.
Since success rate of rookies 1st and 2nd rounders has been brought up I figured context was important. While Half of rookies fail, the vast majority of HoF RB in their thirties fail. Eric Dickerson, Jerome Bettis, Gayle Sayers, Marshall Faulk, Floyd Little, Roger Craig, Thurman Thomas, Earl Campbell and Marcus Allen all tanked by 30.
But Peterson is a mythological creature with Wolverine healing powers, remember?
Maybe you missed this post.
That's not the full picture.
It is McFadden/Randle/Williams PLUS a 1st round pick PLUS 8M+ per season in cap space to add other players over the next few years.
How many of the past 5 Super Bowl winners won because they went All-In on a player?

No, he is s great RB that is nearing the end of a great career. He could give the team two or three years. A RB like Gurley could give his entire career to Dallas. If he is drafted in the first round, Dallas will get a minimum of five years out of him.
Agreed. But the RB didn't change, the OL did. We made sure we kept our starters on the OL so that our running game will stay intact. Even if AP can show he is still the best running back in the game for a year or two, we don't need that to have an effective running game with this OL.
Murray got 1000 of his 1800 yards before first contact. People should let that sink in.

Emmitt, Sweetness, and Martin never had serious knee injuries prior to 30.
In the past, going all in hasn't worked so well. If it does pay off with a Super Bowl, that would be great, but I don't want one Super Bowl every twenty years. For the first time since Jimmy left, this team is showing signs of being a well run organization with long term plans of sucess. I would much rather see the Cowboys be a legit Super Bowl contender every year like the Pats. I know the standard response is going to be that the team's sucess is over once Romo retires. There is no reason for that statement to be true if the team plans for Romo's departure and have a capable QB to take his place. I am not ready to go all in for one or two years and then throw in the towel when there will still be a lot of talent on the team such as Dez and a young oline that is considered to be the best in the league . That is too much talent to give up on and not be prepared to use those players for long term success. As an older fan, I liked the feeling of having a legit chance to win it all every year. I would rather plan for the long term instead of putting all my eggs in one basket for a two year period. I am sure that some fans will disagree, but that would change with a string of playoff appearances and a couple Super Bowl wins.
I'm going to say it again he is coming to Dallas. Whether or not he comes will not change the way I get up in the morning. I think the ones that are going to be disappointed are the ones who won't be able to argue how old and washed up he is. He will be coming with fire he will be coming with a chip on his shoulder he will be coming to remind everyone why he is the best RB on the planet. Now take your doom and gloom speech elsewhere.
