I understand that. But your demands are just as unreasonable...you're asking one of, if not the best, running back in the league to sign a contract of an above average player...I don't know where 12M guaranteed would place Peterson on the RB charts...but it isn't high

Isn't Peterson essentially asking the Vikings to guarantee his $12 million this year? It would be the same thing.

Now, I think the back end will be higher and we'll have to restructure after this year if he turns out to be what we expect, but the bonus would give him what he expects to be paid this year.

I am starting to think if there is going to be a trade for AP that it will happen on draft day. They might even have an agreement set in place and I wouldn't doubt it is pending on a RB being available at 27........if one of the cowboys top choices isn't there I could see us trade something like our first round pick for AP and a 3rd or a 4th.

Christian Ponder was his QB in 2012 and he had a career year. Same OL with Kalil Loadholt and Sullivan too.

AP 2012 over 2000 yards. AP 2013 1200 yards. I never said he wasn't good. I said he was declining,

Did you see what he did against Dallas that year?

And they're receivers were all hurt if I remember correctly.

That's not how good teams operate. All-In philosophy has never worked in the NFL. The Patriots just used their 1st and 2nd rounders on a redshirt DT and a future backup QB and still won the Super Bowl while the Broncos made all sorts of dumb moves that didn't win them a playoff game and set them back for the future. And if you're worried about a QB not making it through the year you really don't mortgage your future. This team will have a strong running game with the current backs and whoever they add in the draft. There is no need to throw away a first plus veteran money at the position. The team scored plenty of points when they played Indy with Murray hurt. They didn't move the ball when Romo was out verse Arizona and Sweden was in. RB is not the straw that stirs the drink in this offense.

The Patriots have an elite QB and coach.
The Cardinals had a hell of a defensive line, it wasn't just Weeden.

For those saying the Vikings won't release him just because he wants to leave: What players can you think of who were kept when they made it clear they wanted out?

I know we've had Ellis, Ratliff and Orton work their way out here. I can't think of any who have done like Peterson and his agents and been kept.

LOL at mattjames continuing to try to push this story that Peterson always ran behind a "top 10 offensive" line.

Twice he ran behind a Top 10 OL (and both those years they were ranked 10th), according to Football Outsiders, once behind the 11th and the other years their OL was ranked below 15th.

In other words, Peterson never really ran behind a dominant OL. A few good ones, some really mediocre ones.

So he did have a good offensive line to run behind? Despite the fact that people have claimed, over, and over, and over again that Minny's offensive line has been terrible? Don't think they said this? Read through the early part of this thread or the others that have been locked. At least you can admit he's had good run blocking.

There is absolutely nothing that indicates he'd rush for 2,000 yards again behind our line. Just as much as you may think a top 10-11 run blocking line isn't effective for an RB, I can say the same that people make our offensive line out to be historic; which they are not. They are a great line, but there is no reason to expect Peterson to have a record breaking year behind our line, at all.

Looks like you are recognizing it was never going to be as easy as some made it out to be to bring Peterson to Dallas. It was always going to be a challenging task.

I never thought it would be easy per se, but I do believe that it can still be done.

But I'm not and never have been a fan of doing anything crazy to make it happen.

prepare for Linehan , Garrett, and Romo himself to call more passing plays....their butts are on the line, they need a play and they are going to call on............. Lance Dunbar to get you those yards and save your career?

No. They aren't. Romo is going to drop back and pass.....

Desean Jackson.............Philly..............got pissed over his contract and was literally jogging his routes during games. Even got to the point he stopped even looking for the ball, just jogged a go route and talked the whole time to the CB that was running with him. He even admitted to it, this is an article about it.

DeSean Jackson Admits Not Giving 100% Last Season
By Jason Brewer@BleedingGreen

DeSean verified my opinion of him with this stunt that he pulled. He is/was a selfish thug. I blame Big Andy for allowing him to remain on the field. He should have been benched and this was one case that I would have supported the HC throwing a player under under a bus.

I am not sure AP wont go to AZ if the terms are more then Dallas is willing to match. And if AZ offers a higher pick then Dallas does, that will further put pressure on AP to take that deal. Minny will obviously want that deal.

I have no idea how badly AZ wants AP. But it adds up for me. They need "something" on offense or they may as well pack it in. They signed Lupaiti from SF.... I think their offer will be strong. Certainly much more then a 4th round pick. a big wag? maybe a 2nd and a player. Pay AP top dollar.

AZ picks 24th. So, if they can pick up Gordon or Gurley, they may just decide NOT to offer a 2nd and a player......which would be nice for Dallas sitting at 27th.

Draft day cant get here quick enough.

I think Minnesota might want to get something done so they know what to do with their own pick.

I don't see Peterson seeking more money than he is getting paid now, but I could be wrong. If Dallas gives him a $12 million bonus and $1 million base this year, he's getting the same as he would have made in Minnesota this year, but all of it would be guaranteed, which is what I think is important to him.

The next couple of years would be the challenge because of how much he is supposed to make in base salary. I don't know if he would be willing to lower those numbers, so there would be a need to rework the deal next year to try to stretch out the hits for that money.

I see this deal as a one-year rental for $13 million with an option for more. If we rent him for one year and it doesn't work out, we pay the penalty by taking an $8 million cap hit (which we can spread out over two years). If it does work out and Peterson looks like the player he has been, then we rework the deal. Like with any deal with any good player, there will eventually be a dead money hit, but that doesn't bug me like it does some here. Every hit can be absorbed as long as Dallas continues to stagger contracts/restructures and hit on draft picks.

Yeah, this is a good point...could give other teams a little bit of leverage on draft day / the eve of the draft

They didn't have to get a draft pick, and in signing a player who had been cut didn't even have that impact their compensatory picks for 2015 (and will get a 3rd rounder in 2016). The Revis scenario is more like what we are doing with Hardy.

It's still an 'all in' type of move, acquiring a top player at his position at great cost, for a shot at a championship.

It paid off as the Patriots had hoped. And then they let the player leave for greener pastures.

I think the one year Hardy signing is an 'all in' move as well. If not, there's not much point signing him for just one year (or even less) and giving up your right to franchise tag him.

The Hardy deals only supports my beliefs that they've decided to go all in, strengthening my belief of their pursuit of Peterson.

I'm asking him to make some sort of concessions to get to where he wants to be. I don't think that's 'unreasonable' at all. And if he's unwilling to do that, he can fight it out with the Vikings because nobody is paying that.

Correct..but there is also market price...which is a happy medium...like 4-32 and 18M guaranteed....something like that

Not suggesting I'd pay that...but I don't suspect he'd sign some cheap deal..

Under his current deal he will be guaranteed his full base salary of $12.75 million once he plays in week 1 no matter which team that is for.

I wouldn't want to get in for four years if I can help it.

I'm ok with the $8 million average though.
