Its funny because the damn topic is so long and, despite Stephen saying it was not going to happen, its going to continue. I have been here for a few years and this is the longest football topic I have seen on the forums and it is only going to get bigger. I find that funny.

It's arguably the most compelling story of the 2015 offseason. Why wouldn't it be a huge topic of conversation, both 'pro' and 'con'? It is something that could have the biggest impact on the Cowboys team for this coming season, good or bad.

And, given the forum's request that all conversations be contained in one thread (and rightly so), there are bound to be pages and pages of conversation and debate.

The Greg Hardy threads were huge (and numerous) too, as that was another move that could have a huge impact on the coming season and fans had great interest in it.

Personally, I find the possibility of the team acquiring the best running back in the league to replace the league's leading rusher more interesting that anything else going on right now. Certainly more interesting than the most recent person fighting over Dez Bryant's money.

When and where exactly did Stephen say it wasn't going to happen? Can you provide a link to that direct quote. I must have missed that one.

He said that they did not intend to trade draft picks for a veteran RB. I am sure that could change if the Minnesota dropped enough but that is where it stands right now.

Good points. I doubt he plays in Minny either. But I think Minny has leverage in the fact that AP cant sit out this year. He just cant.

I don't expect that. But again, I am of the opinion that the Vikings don't want to pay that $13 million that he's due for week one either.

I was hoping that situation would lend itself to an easy transaction between the Cowboys, Minny and AP. Figuring other teams may offer more, but AP would refuse those offers wanting to play for the team of his choice. Or maybe a team like the Cardinals. From the teams mentioned and rumored , Dallas and AZ are the two teams I narrowed down that I think AP will accept a trade with...

Minny would accept that offer, realizing they don't want all the trouble. AP would accept that offer and everybody walks away from this fiasco. Relatively in good shape. It seemed almost too easy.

But everybody seems to be playing hardball. Stephen Jones just said they will offer nothing in the form of draft picks for any veteran ball player. not even a lousy 5th rounder?

Something has got to give and I think it will. I'm just not sure if AP ends up with the Cowboys.

Yeah, these things are never as easy or as quick as you hope for.

But I still feel a deal gets done. An if it doesn't? I'll live.

So you think it's funny that the talk - including yours - is not going to stop? What exactly is funny about that? Where is the humor?

Why exactly should the talk stop until Peterson's situation is resolved?

Again, anyone tired of it has a whole big wide world of other things to choose from.

If anyone is complaining about it, it's the result of their own ignorance in clicking on a thread clearly titled.

Stash,
Before we find out what is going to occur with AP's future, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your time and passion on this thread and I with many others (I'm sure) would love to see AP carry the pill behind the OL we have built. Your points are well read, well taken and I hope become a reality. I'm starting to waiver that there are just too many obstacles with getting a deal done although I know JJ lays awake at night dreaming about the scenario of having AP with a star on his helmet.
Just wanted to give it up to you for the good fight and who knows, crazier things have happened.

I know AP wants out. Everyone knows AP wants out. That is not up for debate. We are talking about AP in regards to the Cowboys. Every single piece of "evidence" about AP to the Cowboys is opinion and conjecture. We know, for sure, 3 things. We know AP wants out of Minnesota because he has said so. We know, for sure, that he would love to play for the Cowboys because he said so. We know, for sure, that Stephen does not want to give up draft picks for a veteran RB, again because he said so.

Everything else is opinion and conjecture.

We also know that we didn't pay Murray saying that we didn't want to devote big dollars to a 27 year old back. AP is 30. We also signed McFadden to a friendly deal. We a signing bonus to Williams to stick around. We even brought back Dunbar.

This is a team prepared to live with who we have at RB right now even if a back we want doesn't fall to us in the draft, let alone giving up a pick and big money for AP.

This is a Madden fantasy and always has been.

Oh, I agree. But that is conjecture based on what we have done. Solid conjecture and I agree with it but conjecture none the less. The only thing we know for sure regarding AP to Dallas is that Stephen said no basically.

That's far different than your statement that Stephen said it wasn't going to happen.

Oh, come on. Its about as close as he can get without mentioning AP because of tampering rules.

Hey if the price was a 5th round pick and Peterson said he was going to play in Dallas or not play at all Steve would be all over that !!!!!

Thanks, I appreciate the compliments very much and I always enjoy a good debate, especially when an opposing viewpoint makes the time and effort to clearly articulate and support their position.

And don't give up hope yet, I still think Peterson-to-Dallas is happening!

I agree with that, as long as the contract was renegotiated. I have said all along that the Cowboys would jump if the compensation to the Vikings was low enough and the contract was renegotiated. I just don't think the price will be low enough.

Well said, stay thirsty my friend.

That's an incredibly stupid position and one that I hope this team isn't dumb enough to take.

This team went 12-4 because of its' running game. It took pressure off the QB, it helped balance a pass-happy offense, it kept an under-manned defense off of the field, and it allowed the Cowboys to control the tempo of games.

I sincerely hope that nobody in any position of authority is arrogant enough or dumb enough to think that the running game should now be minimized and that 'just anybody' can get the job done.

This offensive line is excellent, but they don't simply manufacture running backs.

I think he will take a lot less to come to Dallas, he wants a ring in the worst way, and I want the Cowobys to get a ring in the worst way this coming year.

I don't think he will take as big a paycut as some think to come here. This is his last contract, he wants dollars. Regardless, it is not up to him as far as the trade goes. It is up to Minnesota and I don't seem them parting with him for a pick that Stephen and company would be willing to give up.

I think they can work out a nice deal pretty easily.

3 years for $25 million with $12.5 guaranteed gives Peterson about $13.5 million in his pocket this year (more than he's due in Minnesota), and effectively guarantees he gets paid whatever salary he's due in 2016 (which he does not currently have in Minnesota). And it allows the Cowboys to spread the cap hit of the guarantee over 3 years (meaning $4 - $4.5 million hitting each year).

You can pay him now, based on just two years if you're willing to absorb about $5 million in dead money in 2017.

Personally, I don't think that amount is prohibitive when you're talking about obtaining a proven Hall of Fame talent and the best running back in the league until proven otherwise.

I want to ask you something specific if I might.

Do you believe that the Vikings have every intention of paying Adrian Peterson the amount he is due in 2015 on his current contract?

No, look back at all the Super Bowls the Cowboys won. We had Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett ,Emmitt Smith , Always a good running back.
