So simple question why would Stephen or JJ say they are going to trade for a guy currently on another teams roster? Think about it...the NFL is not like MLB with multiple trade rumors floating here and there...most----again---most trades in the NFL just happen....there may be speculation about a player wanting to be traded and rumors of potential suiters but most trades like Harvin to the Jets last year just happen. Now this one is different I will grant ya that...but you know what this one reminds of...RW2...for months there was speculation and ties of a trade involving the WR and Dallas..speculation that supported and speculation that did not support it. What happened in the last hour before the deadline...it happened. I am sorry there has been way to much smoke on this one to think differently. SJ said exactly what he needs to say right now...yep not interested...not going to happen...not trading picks...two days after Minn leaked they want a 1st, a CB, Esloan, Mjames, JimMorrison, and four deflated footballs. These two teams are playing pocker right now that is what is obvious. He isn't staying in Minn and it may not happen until after the draft. So until the clock says 15:00 on September 13 there is still a chance this happens. I've been on this train for over a year now and I'm not getting off until there is clear cut resolution! So let it be said so let it be written!

I'm not 'off' this thing either. Not until the draft is over. This just looks like a public back and forth, essentially negotiating in public without really saying anything.

I'm not saying it will happen, only that it still can happen.

No way I would give up a 1st for ANY running back past 30 years of age. Just cannot happen. Although I think AP would put us in the drivers seat for #6, it would put us behind in terms of building a consistent winner.

I have always said a 4th or maybe a 3rd conditional. Too rich for my blood.

This is from MMQB...All Aboard!!
The Vikings have Peterson under contract; his fate is ultimately up to them. However, I have experienced living with unhappy players. The key person to smooth the tension is usually the agent, but in this case it has gone beyond professional differences between Dogra and the Vikings’ management. It has become personal, and Dogra is doing everything he can to remove Peterson from the team.
These situations hang over a team like a dark cloud. At some point, I think the Vikings will look for an exit strategy. It is likely they already have. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating here: I don’t think Peterson will ever play another down for the Vikings.
Where, then, will he end up?
There are plenty of rumored suitors, including the Cardinals and Raiders, but the actions of the Cowboys lately seem almost too obvious to connect the dots. The team 1) created $12.8 million of cap room with the latest Tony Romo contract restructure, and Peterson would cost $12.75 million; 2) watched DeMarco Murray sign with their biggest rival while barely lifting a finger; and 3) discussed the potential of Peterson as a Cowboy on their website (there was a competing viewpoint, but approval had to come from above to allow this video). Adding the report of Peterson talking to Jerry Jones on the phone last year about his interest in playing for the team, the link seems apparent.
If the Cowboys do acquire Peterson, they will have two of the three players involved in high profile domestic violence cases in 2014. As I wrote in this space on the acquisition of Greg Hardy, the Cowboys (just like some other teams) will tolerate questionable past behavior if the talent warrants.

Especially when the first thing he brings up is the Romo restructure. Its been said multiple times that that restructure covers McClain, the rookie pool and Hardy's future salary.

How about the Carr June 1st cut when we draft 2 CB's...

I don't find MMQB to be that kind of site. I think he offers his real opinion. -- Now, he is wrong a lot of the time.

What do you expect the circle of non believers to say? You know what's funny Joe is they keep coming back but they don't bring any food to the table. Nothing but air anyway. Nothing but air.....

An excerpt from the above-referenced article:

Peterson’s negativity toward a team that paid him millions last year for not playing—and a team that wants to pay him the $12.75 million he is due this year—is puzzling to many. But his lingering hard feelings built up over the long months that he was away from the team, and they haven’t subsided.

See, it's not 'puzzling' to me, because I don't think the Vikings want to pay him under his current contract.

Before this whole incident happened, there was plenty of speculation that the Vikings would have to revisit the current terms of Peterson's deal anyway, given that the numbers are completely out of whack, especially in light of the current salaries for premier running backs.

As a matter of fact, given the contract's structure and the guaranteed money having already been paid, this was obviously the plan. To bring both sides back to the negotiating table at this point, with the team feeling they had great leverage because of the guaranteed money being paid.

What they didn't count on is the player wanting no part of either renegotiating the deal, or even returning to the team.

And now they're left in a stalemate and essentially scrambling around trying to get something for a player that the situation dictates they would otherwise have to cut, receiving nothing in return.

Or they can change course, and force a disgruntled player to take money that they don't actually want to pay him, simply to retain him for another season rather than getting nothing for him. And then go into 2016 with an even older player due to make even more money.

I just see all of these factors coming to a head, with the end result that Peterson doesn't play for the Vikings again.

Nothing but air and, ya know, Stephen Jones even saying its not happening. And, ya know, them bringing in every RB in the draft for a look. There is quite a bit more evidence that it is not going to happen than there is evidence that it is. But you keep on wishing upon a star.

And you keep posting and posting and posting about a subject you supposedly want to 'go away'....

The ultimate in hypocrisy.

Never said I wanted the subject to go away. I actually have fun reading and debating the topic. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here.

He will if he doesn't have to take a paycut in Oakland, then a big one for Dallas I'm guessing.

Some of you guys can't see the forest for the trees
AP is an all time great player and first ballot HOF
He has made more than enough money
He wants and needs to win s championship before he retires and he knows that he had 3-5 years left
There is no way he goes anywhere for the money
His only choices are Dallas or Arizona
He is from Texas and we play in a far easier division with a vastly superior QB and great OL
AP will be in Dallas to start the season.

AP will force Minns hand, we should not give then anything above a 5th if that

I don't see him playing for the Vikings either. If we don't get him, I hope he goes to a team like the Raiders or Bucs. I sure as hell don't want him to sign with Arizona.

Maybe the Cowboys aren't giving up any of their draft picks THIS year, but will give up one next year and get AP this year? I dunno. If we don't get AP I hope to get Gordon.
