Well I think Stephen believes the running game is driven by the OL more than Murray.

The question is if he is right.

He got a 1000 yards before contact.
Which means he had 800 after contact, which is pretty darned good. I don't think Randle or McFadden come close to that.

I do believe that if a RB we liked fell to us that we would have drafted him. But I like the BPA strategy that we have employed the last few years.
My issue is that if they were going to go all in on BPA strategy irregardless of the obvious need for a RB, they needed a better plan B than what could very well be a washed up McFadden,

I just don't think Jones deviates here from not wanting to spend significant resources on a 30 year old RB. Whether he is right or not we won't know until we see some preseason games, but I think this is where we are at and barring some huge development that makes Peterson both available and affordable, it's not happening.
I'm skeptical that Peterson happens, but I do know they have left the team vulnerable at RB, and that if they decided to go 'all in' while we still have Romo playing at a high level the opportunity to grab AP makes sense.

Why is McFadden very well washed up but Peterson makes us a contender despite being 30. No one has any idea what age has done to Peterson because he hasn't played. It's not just time on the field, but simple age that slows guys down.

Well, to be fair, McFadden is not so much washed up as he is a never was. His entire career has been a disappointment. If I had to put money on who would have the better season behind this line, the smart money would be on AP and there is no doubt about that.

Probably because Peterson has never had 3 straight seasons of sub 3.5 YPC in his career like McFadden has just had. Other than that, esloan above me sums it up nicely too.

Because it doesn't just come down to the amount of yards a RB gets.

Let me give you an example. Dez Bryant is so good he requires double teams all the time. When he gets double teamed it opens up the door for us to take advantage or one on ones or that extra defender doesn't have a chance to stop the running back etc. Dez can have a game where he only gets 50 yards but still has a great game because of how he helped the team by drawing extra defenders to him.

The best RB/WR/QB isn't always the one who racks up the most yards/ TD's in a season.

You are just being shortsighted without knowing it.

Totally in agreement here. People forget that because we were so successful running with Murray that teams put an extra man in the box opening up the game for our receivers and giving one on one coverages to Bryant.

I don't see MacFadden causing the D to make adjustments and I'm hoping that I'm wrong. Certainly they won't do it for Randle.

The Dallas FO is wrong in downplaying the importance of a workhorse like Murray. They are betting their entire season on a runningback by committee which wasn't the reason why defenses stacked the box. If this experiment fails we can all kiss the season goodbye.

AP has had injuries too. He also could have another incident of abuse. The data also strongly points to decline at 30 for RB.

What do we know works in this situation? People are acting like AP is 26 with no injury history and no off the field issues. None of this is true.

AP had injuries but came back even stronger as a runningback than ever before. McFadden's excuse was that his oline didn't block for me.

Dude its no comparison. AP is a much better runningback and Dallas should be making offers to Minnesota for a possible trade. This should be a no brainer. Instead we have Jerry making unfound promises that our runningbacks will be just fine. I don't buy it.

Minny doesn't want to trade. How many times does their management have to say it. They have the cap space and he is under contract for 3 years. If he wants to wait until he is 32 or 33 and become a free agent then, so be it.

Thats fine with me if he doesn't. Then were going into this season with scrubs hoping and praying they can do a respectable job running the ball. I have my doubts.

Thus the Cowboys have dug themselves into a hole by not even trying to address this problem in the draft. They could have gotten someone else to try and fill the void but they didn't. If their experiment fails to work and I can bet you that the AD story won't stop. It won't be coming from me. It will be coming from the media who will be asking why we didn't try and fill the void left by Murray leaving?

People here were so happy to see Murray leave, but now he's gone, everyone's panicing. Let's wait until training camp and preseason before we say all is doomed for the running backs we have behind our OL. If they suck then and can't run behind our OL, ok. Then panic.

I was not one of those that wanted him gone. I was all for us signing and have mentioned many times before that he was the major reason why we were in the playoffs. He may not have been elite but he caused teams to adjust their defenses to stop him. I doubt they do that with the scrubs we have now. What was even more pathetic is that the Cowboys didn't even address the issue and their in denial is that they really didn't need a runningback. I'll wait till a few preseason games to judge but Im highly doubtful. If there is a noticeable drop-offs in our yardage on runs than its time to panic.

A RB isn't going to make or break a SB run. 1800 yards wasn't enough to get there. And how many Super Bowls has AD played in again? Good lord the hyperbole in here is ridiculous.

Hate to break the news to you bro, but we will be lucky to even sniff a wildcard with McFadden, Randle, and Williams as our RB core.

The fact that some of you guys actually think these scrubs can replace Murray is disturbing.

At this point, what other explanation makes sense? To not even draft , not one single RB?

And, it doesn't have to even be AP. Maybe someone else is on the trade block? I would love to see AP, and think we powerhouse are way into the Super Bowl with him on the team.

But at this point,,,, I am desperate for anybody....

It just doesn't add up. Why? Why would you go into a season with basically, DMC and randle on the roster? Why would you do that?

I don't get it either bro, it makes absolutely no dam sense.

The entire identity of the team was a powerful, punishing, running game that other teams feared. So what do we do? We let our bellcow RB go to a division rival and we replace him with a bunch of scrubs and call it a day.

Un freaking Believable.

I think people are thinking that, with the upgrades to the defense, we are closer than last year sans RB.

You are 100% correct my friend............we had the power running game and that propelled us from annual 8-8 records to a 12-4 contender. We just didn't have the horses on defense to beat an elite QB like Aaron Rogers. Thus, we have spent resources fixing the defense to the point that we might be able to beat an elite QB now.

The problem is that we lost our bellcow and folks find the idea that McFadden, Randle, and Williams are going to step in and replace Murray's production laughable. Folks were told not to worry, this is one of the deepest RB classes in many years and we will grab a young RB that can grow and mature with this offensive line.

So what did we do? We proceeded to draft 500 linebackers, more offensive lineman, and even traded a pick next year for a TE that even Texas alumni says sucks.

NO RB!!!!

So we lost our bellcow and we are now told that we didn't really need any of the backs out of the draft anyways, McFadden and crew will get the job done. Sorry, but I cant even take an argument like this seriously, to even suggest scrubs like McFadden and Randle can replace Murray's production is hilarious.

Forget AP.........how about getting us a RB that doesn't suck?

You are telling me the only two options are trading for AP or going with scrubs like McFadden and Randle? There are no other options except these two?

Starting to think this might be JJs master plan all along. Everyone knows dam well that when there is a need we always try and fill it and for us to not take a RB has me thinking JJ will make a push to get AP now.

We still have 5 million in dead money from Miles Austin because we get into the mindset that we can't live without some guy. We are paying big money to Carr and everyone wants to dump him. What I don't get is that people yell about how guys cost too much and we should get rid of them and then say we should trade picks and pay 8-10 million a year for AP who is 30.

Even if he has another year left how long can he have?

I wasn't happy to see Murray go as much as grateful we didn't pay him what he got. New England is competitive every year by adjusting to the circumstances. A RB we like didn't drop to us in the draft. We will just have to find a way to make it work.

We won't have an 1800 yard runner (though RB only have 1 year like that in a career anyway). This doesn't mean we won't be effective in the running game.

I'd like to think that having Hardy, Lawrence, and Gregory can help us end games and certainly makes us stronger overall than had we used that money and 2nd rounder on AP.

It's not "if they suck" they all do suck. They are all backups.

We know for a fact that a solid running game makes us successful. What we don't know is will a potential great defense and scrub RB's make us better?
I prefer to go with what we KNOW works.

This season will now be a mystery. Will Romo be able to be as successful as he was last year? I seriously doubt it.

We won a lot of games but we only won 1 playoff game. Is that really successful? Yes it's better than 8-8 but I thought the bar was set higher than that. Sure we could have kept Murray and had another great offensive year but our defense wasn't championship worthy and everyone knew it.

Every season is a mystery. Will Romo repeat what he did last year? Some say it was the best of his career. Hard to see him living up to that standard but you never know. He isn't having off season surgery like the last 2 years. That's a great start.
