His current contract he is scheduled to make $45 million over the next 3 seasons. If he accepted $12 million a year like Lynch he would take home $36 million over the next 3 seasons. If he accepts $10 million a year then he would take home $30 million over the next 3 seasons. Accepting $9 million to $15 million less than he is currently scheduled to make is indeed an awful lot. So much so that is seems unreasonable. Dallas at most would probably offer $8 million a year and maybe not even that much, which would mean he would possibly take home $24 million over the next 3 seasons. That is just a lot of money to leave on the table for the best running back in the league.

I'm of the mindset that he's not getting that money from Minnesota regardless. My belief is that during the numerous conversations with Vikings management, they've already mentioned a paycut. He's already said 'No', while they're refusing to cut him. Hence, the impasse.

Lynch's deal may average $10.3 million, but it's a one year deal. He makes $12 million this year with $9 and $10 million non-guaranteed going forward. It's shaped to be a 'thanks for everything' one year deal with a $5 million raise to keep him from retiring.

I would give the same deal to Peterson in a heartbeat. In fact, it's very much in line with what I outlined for him. He gets more up front, and we 'eat' dead money on the tail end, just like the Seahawks will with Lynch. And if they go to another Super Bowl, it's worth every penny to them, as it should be to us.

the past accused of faking injuries to get off certain teams...........see Jay Ratliff.

Ah yes, good ole Jeremiah....... Played that well didn't he. If AP were to end up here this year, I'd take his bum hammy & all....... Especially with the Vikes paying him

I fixed what I could, but there is no fixing . That statement was a disaster from start to finish. You need only look at the years following the Cowboys last Super Bowl appearance and research the reason behind the Cowboys mediocrity throughout those years to understand why.

No I don't need to look at past cowboys history to change my opinion about AP. I don't have a clue who you think is better than AP your in the minority. There is All Day then there is the rest of the NFL RBs; yes even at 29..

Are you comparing the Vikings Oline with the Cowboys. Are you comparing Romo, Dez, Williams, and the rest to the Vikings offense? Can you stack the box on the Cowboys? Peterson got 1200 yards basically on his own with that team.

That was not the first year lines have been stacked against him. What 2 years in his career has he played with an above average supporting cast?

So average get's 1,800 yds. Great gets what? 2,500+ yds?

Great is the rb that averages 1300-1800 for 4 plus years average is the RB that has 1 breakout year either within those numbers or exceeding that level but never returns there again...Murray hit that level last year lets see where he goes this year...so is Murray great, no, is he average, no, he has had a Breakout year though...

I would not be surprised to see AP do well in the upcoming season, regardless of the team he plays on. Having acknowledged that, when you weigh the cap hit he will incur, the fact that the Cowboys OL doesn't need an elite RB to be productive, the possibility that he is not the same durable back you remember from years ago as a result of father-time or other, the draft picks it will cost to acquire him, and, finally, the fact that he is not likely to want anything less than a 3 year deal worth 24 mil, you should see that it is not a calculated risk worth gambling on, when the Cowboys are looking at the best crop of rookie RB's since 2008 in the upcoming draft.

We only have to pay hom for one year. We dont have to commit to longer than that. We rent Hardy and Peterson for a year. Doesnt hamper us down the road.

Dave, in all fairness, he missed two starts and only carried nine times in part of a third game. That's closer to 85-88 ypg. Truth is, Peterson's career ypc and ypg favorably compare with the greatest RBs of all time with the exception of Jim Brown.

I agree but if the cost is similar in nature to the Greg Hardy deal it only makes sense to pull the trigger. By similar I mean the way the deal is structured not cost.

How is this thread still going strong? Is there some new rumor of him signing here or something?

The guy at the mattress store who's brother is the liquor store clerk has inside info.

My neighbors friend, sees a dentist, that has a cousin, who goes to school with a guy who knows, the brother of the mattress store guy. He is an alcoholic.

He says AP will be a Cowboy by mid April.

Also, if I am the Cowboys Front Office. I tell the "sources" to leak exactly what I want everybody thinking right now. Not the actual truth. Send a message to other FOs. We aren't desperate, we aren't giving up draft choices. Were just gonna wait it all out......ummmmkay...

Jerry WILL get his man. Peterson will be a Cowboy. The only question is when.

The longer this plays out the better its works out for the Cowboys. Minnisota can hold on to him until July if they want too and then cut him. By this time every team will have there RB position solidified. The longer they wait the cheaper he will cost.

Im sure Jerry and Peterson have been in constant communications and Jerry knows the Cowboys are the ONLY team Peterson will play for. Peterson probably told Jerry he will refuse to renigotiate a new contract with any team he does not want to be traded too. No team will trade for him with his current contract. Therefore Peterson has all the power.

Everyone's saying Dallas cant afford him? Has Peterson even made any statements about how much money it will cost to sign him to a new contract. I say he plays for the Cowboys for 6 mil a year. Anyone else 13 Mil. Therefore nobody accept Dallas can afford him.

Lets not forget that Minn. needs to address their RB needs for 2016 too. Do they go with what they have on the roster? Do they Draft a RB? Its pretty clear Peterson will never play there again. They can hold on to him as long as they want but sooner or later will need to cut him.

Jerry knows to be patient and that its only a matter of time till Peterson wears the STAR! Mark my words!

Mc Fadden was signed as an insurance policy and will be released when Peterson is signed.

I seriously doubt this.

If 'contract issues' subsequently arise and the league were ever able to substantiate such contact took place between Peterson (a player currently under contract with the Vikings) and Jerry Jones, ANY Cowboys' team representative, or EVEN a third-party intermediary acting on behalf of the Dallas Cowboys - Dallas would be facing 'severe disciplinary action'.

The league doesn't even have to establish cause-and-effect - they can mete out whatever punishment Goodell deems fit.

So, are you saying the Cowboys' front office is stupid?

Could you stack the box on the 2009 Vikings team that was an OT loss away from playing in the Super Bowl with a still good Favre at QB? He only got 1,400 yards rushing with that team. Which while very good is not what everyone here seems to be expecting. Everyone is expecting 2012 Peterson, but it is rare for a RB to be that good when he reaches 30, especially considering he did have that 380 touch year in 2012. I just think it is wiser to fill up every hole we have on defense (which there are still a few) and make this defense a top 5 defense (which I think is possible as long as there are not easy targets to attack) than to spend all of our money on one aging player, who may or may not be great at this point in his career.
