Why? I don't know. No one does, which is why you can't get an answer.
Because the logic doesn't add up. Therefore the position fails.
The line of thinking isn't that he wants the absolute maximum money owed to him from his current contract. It is that he still wants a good chunk of change.
Again, that makes no sense. If he wants money, he can stay in Minnesota and make more there than anywhere else. And his actions clearly indicate that is not what he values most.
And his prior actions and comments have indicated that his preference is to play in Texas and for the Cowboys, can anyone honestly dispute that?
He is going to end up taking a pay cut to play in 2015 no matter where he plays, but don't believe the money doesn't matter to him or his agent.
He's not going to play for free, nor should he.
In order for him to play in Dallas he would have to take a pay cut of over 50%. That isn't going to happen. He will take a reduction, but not near enough for Dallas to afford on top of whatever it will take to acquire him through a trade.
Again, if his desire to return and play in Texas is strong enough, and outweighs just money, I could certainly see it happening.
I already envision a 3 year $25 million deal to sign with the Cowboys, with Dallas putting a great deal of 'funny money' in year three when they don't expect him to play. They can either re-work the deal then, or cut him, with about $6 million in dead money to deal with then.
The Cowboys present every other option outside of money that Peterson covets:
- Great chance at Super Bowl before his career ends
- Top offensive line
- Pro Bowl quarterback
- Pro Bowl receiver
- Highest Profile Team in the League
- Location, location, location!
Add it all up, and the Cowboys' chances of obtaining Peterson jump dramatically. I firmly believe that this is the 'other shoe' to drop in what will be a phenomenal, Super Bowl level offseason.
