He grew up a boyz fan and as he said he would love to retire as a member of the cowboys. He has an opportunity to make it happen and by the looks of it he is trying.

I am sure that as all fine and nice, but it ignoring certain realities, like the fact he is not going to come play for free and Dallas has less than $2M in cap space.

Be honest, when is the last time you saw a player successfully orchestrate his own way to the team he wanted to go to via trade? Next to never.

He is trying to push whatever buttons he can to get out. The Vikings will determine where he goes. Peterson's personal sentiments are irrelevant.

whats your gut feeling on how this plays out in regards to the cowboys speed?

I think AD is going to try and do everything he can to get out of Minnesota - via cut. Forcing a divorce -- similar to how Rat and Orton did it. Vikes I guess could be stubborn and just wait for him to report when he absolutely has to but they might not want a disgruntled vet around the young guys when they don't have to and can get that 13 million off the books.

If cut I think there is a very strong chance he signs with the Cowboys. Money will definitely be the determining factor. But I also think the Cowboys would be willing to pay him more than they would have Murray. Because AD is the superior player. Guaranteed money is probably the biggest issue.

people underestimate jerrys desire to have the spotlight on us sometimes, can you imagine the publicity this would bring? of course there would be some with the negative backlash, but this would be next level. jerry loves to make a splash, and im not 100% convinced he wants to rely on a first round pick to block for romo when he is one big hit away from being out indefinitely. no we will not pay his current salary, not sure why people argue that. but i am pretty confident we would be willing to pay more for adrian peterson at 30 then demarco at 27

It's ok, the same people who said no way on Hardy are at it again... EVERYTHING begins with rumors. ....not saying 100% AP will be in Dallas, but never say never in this biz.

It's alright like I said this is a place to talk about our opinions he has his I have mine. To disagree is apart of life, if he comes here it will be great if he doesn't i'm not going to lose sleep over it...the possibility is just great to entertain until we know what is going to happen.

Agreed. Dallas would have to start making restructuring moves now in order to bring in Peterson. They are silent. Plus they aren't restructuring Romo. They have his contract situated to move away from him in 2 or 3 years without any crippling hits in dead money at that time.

And think further. They would mortgage their future, and then trade for Peterson just for the privilege of going in the hole? Makes zero sense to me to imagine they do that.

why would they have to do anything right now? it takes a whole what 10 minutes to restructure someone? so 100% they wont restructure romo? im glad you are in the front office with jerry and stephen. they can restructure anyone at anytime in matter of minutes if they need it. but yes it would be nice not have dead money lingering

Imagine yes. How sweet that would be. But expect or anticipate something unreasonable no.

I guess where I disagree the most is AP holds the cards and if he wants to be here he will get here. So that to me is not something unreasonable. DMAC wanted to be a cowboy and he is here.

He was also a free agent and would play on the cheap. Big difference from this situation.

I agree with all of this, and the only team other than Dallas that I give a chance of getting Peterson is Arizona. And only then if Peterson is willing to go 'close but no cigar' in his stated desire to get back to Texas.

In two to three years, Romo will likely retire and this team will be playing or looking for a young, cheap quarterback anyway. If signing Peterson now means adding in another $5 - $6 million in dead cap space then, I'm fine with that. Any quarterback you have then will be playing for cheap at that point anyway.

Do whatever it takes to try to win now!

I agree. And I would think AP would want this outcome too.

Go home to where he grew up, and get a few SBs , helping Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys return to greatness after a 20 year drought.....Become a Hero in home state.....Texas! Couldn't write a better script.

AP left, AP right, AP right down your throat....barreling over Chancellor and Sherman and GB and Philly and NY and whoever else...

20 years. Romos window. Stephen Jones, Jerry Jones, Romo, Garrett . Dez, the Oline, witten, and the rest..... how can they say No?

Its like it almost HAS to happen. --- I know I know, a lot can happen in 4-6 months. But as i see this all play out, with info we have right now, how could this NOT happen.

Because of a 5 6 million dollar difference in Salary?

I don't think my opinion is stupid at all....I am basing everything off of arcticles and APs direct actions. There is no extensive cap hit for the Vikes when they release AP (one them articles)...AP himself saying Dallas was on his list of where he will go...its happening...

Steven Jones said it already, they have 90 million of the cap is going towards the offense, more money needs to be spent on the defense..

The vikings have said, he's not being cut...

Who cares what AP wants or says, he's under contract, he has no say....the viking owe him 40 million, his base and pro-rated bonuses does go towards the cap,.. to say there's no cap hit for the vikings.. that's not true...

I don't care about hardy..He'll probably be gone after one season anyways. AP was born to be a Cowboy..just like Dez.

If Dallas wanted to acquire him it would take them like 10 minutes to create the cap room needed to do it.

Why? I don't know. No one does, which is why you can't get an answer.

Because the logic doesn't add up. Therefore the position fails.

The line of thinking isn't that he wants the absolute maximum money owed to him from his current contract. It is that he still wants a good chunk of change.

Again, that makes no sense. If he wants money, he can stay in Minnesota and make more there than anywhere else. And his actions clearly indicate that is not what he values most.

And his prior actions and comments have indicated that his preference is to play in Texas and for the Cowboys, can anyone honestly dispute that?

He is going to end up taking a pay cut to play in 2015 no matter where he plays, but don't believe the money doesn't matter to him or his agent.

He's not going to play for free, nor should he.

In order for him to play in Dallas he would have to take a pay cut of over 50%. That isn't going to happen. He will take a reduction, but not near enough for Dallas to afford on top of whatever it will take to acquire him through a trade.

Again, if his desire to return and play in Texas is strong enough, and outweighs just money, I could certainly see it happening.

I already envision a 3 year $25 million deal to sign with the Cowboys, with Dallas putting a great deal of 'funny money' in year three when they don't expect him to play. They can either re-work the deal then, or cut him, with about $6 million in dead money to deal with then.

The Cowboys present every other option outside of money that Peterson covets:

  1. Great chance at Super Bowl before his career ends
  2. Top offensive line
  3. Pro Bowl quarterback
  4. Pro Bowl receiver
  5. Highest Profile Team in the League
  6. Location, location, location!
Add it all up, and the Cowboys' chances of obtaining Peterson jump dramatically. I firmly believe that this is the 'other shoe' to drop in what will be a phenomenal, Super Bowl level offseason.

Refuse to play for the Cardinals. Let it be known right now. Force your way to Dallas.

If we were to sign AP, we'd be one short of the "Triplets"; 1 female beater, 1 child beater. Sign Vick and then we'd have our Triplets.

Yep. I agree for the most part. I would say, however, that we still need to do some more in free agency because our number of needs is greater than our number of high draft picks. We still need a starting caliber LB. I'm hoping we address that with McClain. We still need a starting caliber CB. I'm hoping we address that with our 1st rounder because there are four very good CBs and at least one should be available when we draft. We need a RB. But I don't think we need AP. I like the guys we have and I think we can get by with a 2nd or 3rd round RB. We need someone to take over for Melton. A 3-tech who can move around the line in the nickel and backup Crawford in the base. And we need a true 1-tech because I don't want to see Hayden getting 600 snaps again. We need to address both of those DT spots in the first four rounds.

Agreed. With a few minor quibbles.

After the Jenkins and Claiborne fiasco's, I'm not interested in CB in the first round. If there is a 1-tech that's good value, take him. Otherwise, go with a top of the line RB. Take a corner later. Maybe 2.

Crawford looks to be the guy who takes over for Melton. It's the 1 tech we need, with McClain/Hayden/Brent providing backup.

We also need a returner to replace Harris. Whether he's a WR or CB is irrelevant. I don't think theres one on the team now.

Need another LB, especially if McClain doesn't come back. Need another OT to eventually replace Free. If not this year, then soon.

Oh, and a ball hawk FS would be nice.

Lots of ways to go at the draft.
