Al Harris should be on the Cowboys radar as DC!

When Al Harris was our secondary coach we were one of the league leaders in creating defensive turnovers. He is now with the Bears and no surprise they are leading the league in that department. He worked under Quinn for several years and can install a similar scheme that they were more successful with.
Secondary coaches rarely make good defensive coordinators. Some do, but not most.

I want to know WHAT genius let Bones go? Our special team's suck!!! As for Harris. I don't know if he has the knowledge to coach the whole aspect of being a DC right now.
You very well could be right, but Jerry should make Al Harris an offer he can't refuse as secondary coach / assistant defensive coordinator. At the same time promote Aaron Whitecotton to defensive coordinator and simply let Whitecotton run the front 7 and let Harris run the secondary. And I agree the special teams particularly the kickoff coverage team has not been good and the penalties on kick returns are killing this team as well. You want a contender you must have the coaching.

Harris coached those Diggs and Bland to historic seasons.
He leaves and the secondary sucks.
Not a surprise.

Don't know that he's ready to be the DC, but seems like a guy to bet on, if he's even willing to come back.
Good post, Harris has proven he can get good production from secondaries he has coached in this league.

Don't know if his name has come up yet, but Brian Flores, the DC of the Cowboys' opponent on Sunday night has done a very good job in his 3 seasons in Minnesota (includiing this year with about the worst offense in the NFL).

He is also no longer under contract after the season ends and there is talk in the Twin Cities he'd like to explore other options.

I doubt Jerry would hire a guy in active litigation against the NFL, but he might do wonders with the D in Big D.

I completely agree. Our DBs have taken serious steps backwards since he left. I would love for him to be our DC.

Yeah, I’d love to have him but I don’t see Jerry being keen on that move

Flores is a stud. I'd say he's one of the few coaches in the league who is a true needle-mover, who can get a unit playing higher than the sum of its talent.

I wouldn't be opposed to this move at all.

But, I don't see the owner and his son making the move for Harris. They seem to like DCs with former HC experience.

Weren't there rumors or whispers that the FO thought Harris was too player friendly? Can't remember. Even if that is true they should interview him. Schotty is considered a player friendly coach as well.
Yeah, reportedly he allowed Diggs to get away with missing meetings, rehab

Get a real DC in here I think Harris has a bright future but man get someone who has shown they can do it no no guys learning on the job.
We have gone the proven route, why not look for a rising star like we did with Adams on offense
