All Is Well, We Brought Jerome Long Back...***Bass likely going to IR***

You knew it was coming. Whatever this team thinks they're doing by reporting injuries in this manner, it's hard to imagine its actually doing anything.

My point is that we have put 7 players on the IR. Released or not.

Yes, didn't take long for the injuries to pile up again. The only good news with that is it hasn't been marquee players. The biggest losses have been Ratliff for at least six games and probably Tyrone Crawford.

Now it's being reported that the injury to Bass' shoulder is worse than originally thought.

I look forward to the immediate outage that we haven't cut Bass for ending up on IR back to back seasons.

When can we expect those threads or comments?

This tells me that it may not have been that much of a difference between Bass and Long.

Yeah, and honestly, it's unfair to the medical staff. I've been a trainer for a long time, and I've had the fortune of working a couple seasons in pro baseball. Teams tend to short change the time frame for return almost as policy, for different reasons. Maybe it's so that teams down the line think they'll have to prepare for the player. Sometimes it's to motivate the player. Sometimes it's just plain ego. Sometimes the player really is ready to go, but whatever reason, be it apprehension, or their agent telling them to protect themselves (business decision), they prolong the situation. I've had players with injuries that I knew would be a good 6-8 weeks, and the team just puts him on the 15-day DL, or says 2-4 weeks. It does put the training staff in a tough position. Maybe our guys are deficient - just because someone works at the pro level doesn't mean they're any better than someone who covers high school - but Jim Maurer, Britt Brown and company have been doing what they do for a long time. I can't imagine they'd keep their positions if they truly were doing a poor job.

In essence what the Cowboys are saying here by IRing Bass is that the difference between he and Long is not enough to wait on and be short for the Giants game. If they think so then it works for me.

Instead of a 5th string DT, why not a guy who could push for a rotation spot (Richard Seymour) or a playmaking returner? Like Yamon Figurs or Roscoe Parrish (is he still in the league?). Or a proven #3 WR like Laurent Robinson.

Can't be serious?

Or are you?

I don't think it matters if it is a 2 or 4 or 6 week injury in this case.

They can't use PUP, because it was not a preseason injury.
They won't use short term IR, because you use that for really good starting players and you only get one of those.
They are using IR, because they don't want to cut another 53 man roster player to add Long, again for an injured backup player.

We are acting like Bass is some beast we can not do without, he is a nice backup who might have some upside (hence putting him on IR) that has been on IR twice in the last 2 years.

This is correct. They need to keep the short term IR option open for a more valuable player. They have to IR him or just have him take up a roster spot and not play for as long as the injury is. And he's a player for depth that had upside but not a key contributor so i dont think they want him taking a roster spot from someone that could be playing.

Seymour or true starter/rotation player over Long, an end of the bench player? Serious as a heart attack.

Seymour is a name you've heard.

How do you know what he's got.

And lol at Robinson.

people are starting to reach for that panic button!!!!

Stay strong people!!!

We lost Ben Bass, so now we want to go spend millions of dollars on Seymour?

Well, when we can't resign Dez, Carter etc, because we brought in and paid Seymour to replace Ben freaking Bass, I can hear the threads now about how stupid we where to blow our wad on Seymour.

No. We've lost Jay Ratliff and now we should spend millions of dollars on Richard Seymour. Do you expect Jay Ratliff to play a down this year? I'm an optimist but I don't know if I can be about Jay.

Crap couldn't we put him on PUP (6weeks ) instead of IR ?

This is a dumb move ! >_<
We had good depth with Crawford , bass , lissemore now it's all gone before the season . Geez
Its amazing to me how many times on this board PUP has to be explained
