Just my opinion of watching the NFL from the 1970’s to the present:

Both Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman would put up Patrick Mahomes numbers if either quarterback was Kansas City’s starter last season and were 27 years old.

The specific offensive and era would change but what each player would be able to accomplish via knowledge and talent would not change.

Statistics are always relevant but ability and performance are the true determinations. Of course, the opportunity of seeing any player during live games is an observer’s advantage when speculating on what ifs.
Roger's best statistical year came during his last season with the changing of the rules (not just because of the two extra games)
IF he had started five years later in his career and played those years after 1978 he would have put up serious numbers.

He has a pretty good chance this year and should play for a long time.
He’s got a chance . I’m not a SB or bust fan anyway. I stopped being that sometime ago. So I enjoy the ride as football ( my fav sport to watch) only comes around 17 weeks a year .
Some fans are obsessed with sb which is also ok

A few things stand out.

1. Dak has a long way to go to reach the games started and games won metrics.
2. Stats have increased year over year for passing but Dak being 60 yards per game ahead of Troy is still wild.
3. The biggest plus Dak stat that jumped out is how high he is in Game Winning drives versus games played. --This stat is indicative of close games and solid opponents where you won the game on a final drive.

I'd rather 100 of these threads versus eye-ball nonsense tbh.
:hammer:

All of this stuff is cool, but it does not mean a thing this coming season. Someone put in some numbers, and then other numbers are left out because it means nothing in the long run. Statistics...

But I get the intention of this post. As a Cowboy fan I've seen what we have at QB.

If one could choose any QB off that list for building a team today, who would you pick?

I say Aikman in a heartbeat.

Staubach would be my second.

Staubach more so than Aikman. Aikman was a statue back there. Was about as immobile a QB as you can get. Mahomes runs around, takes off, and is about as savvy moving around the pocket as you can get. He extends plays.

Aikman does none of that. Aikman hung in the pocket like a champ and took the big hit, but no way does he put anything close to Mahomes numbers. I dont care what era. With little run game and the only great pass catcher as Kelsy? Aikman would struggle.

Up until last 2 years Dak has had a good line and this myth that all of Romos career was played with a bad line is just that a myth.

He had pro bowlers just like aikman and Roger

That said there were a few years he had to play magician . I’d say he had more suspect defenses than lines
Dak had a great oline for about two years and that is it. Once frederick went down and Tyron started missing games every year the Oline has been mediocre. And then of course he has had the horrid Zeke the last 4 years being featured.

Aikmans lines were much much better. Only line that compares to Aikmans was Daks rookie year in 2016.

Don't care about passing percentages.

Romo will never surpass Staubach, Aikman, and White.

Romo is a footnote who never accomplished what other Cowboys QBs have done.

Dak is on the same path as Romo....a never was.
That's YOUR business ! Seriously Bro That's your take on it. There are those of us who Believe That any QB that wore the star holds a special place in our collective hearts.

Their are some who think Tony is the greatest QB ever, because he played at their moment of Fandom, for some ,Staubach is and will be the greatest Cowboys QB , EVER. Captain comeback

Captain America, QB of the original America's Team, for some It's Troy ,Triplets, Three time Super Bowl Champ. SO Dak can be on the same path as Romo. Maybe he'll win one or Two. It won't change the mind of fans like you.

but to some COWBOYS FANS he is and will be THEIR TEAMS QB. And like it or not, that carries more weight than a Super Bowl Champ for other teams. I mean keep it real, you know who Dak Prescott is, do you know who QB in the 2000

Super Bowl , I don't. Why because I DON'T CARE LOL

BTW HOMER Doesn't begin to describe me !!!!!!!!
