I don’t get the fans who think we should release Beasley. Beasley is one of the quickest, if not, the quickest receivers in the league. If our coaches adapt this year and allow him to run more than a 7 yard in, or a 7 yard out, he will be a force again this year. Some fans want Switzer to take over Beasley’s roll. I want to keep both and start using them together. NE has been pretty successful using Edelman and Amendola at the same time!
First because of switzer. Two because when he is in the game you know what he is going to run. He has no outside the number abilities. Unless youget him on the same 5-9 yard option pattern he is not useful. At least thompson and hurns are bigger targets out of the slot and give.you vertical route options. Everyone complains about all the possession receivers beasley is short quick but not fast possession receiver who is only good out to 10 yards

So I guess our WR core is now Dez, Hurns, Twill, Beasly, Switzer, Thompson, and Noah Brown?

That is seven deep.............plus if we draft a rookie WR, that would put us 8 deep.

I don't think 8 WRs make the 53, so I bet some more changes are still to come.

I dont think anyone wants to, but if you are looking at the money committed to WR and thinking something has to give...Switzer is a cheaper Bease and Bease is going into the last year of his contract...Hurns is not a direct replacement, but he could be the odd man out is all anyone is saying. I LOVE Beasley, but I get it if it goes down that way. I think any receiver not named Dez is being shopped in the draft or before.

I'm no expert, but sometimes you get that feeling, and I feel like this was a good signing for Dallas. I absolutely could be 1000% wrong, but, something tells me this may work out.

That's some really detailed analysis there. All I am saying is don't speak in absolutes when we are all reading the tea leaves. Stating your opinion is one thing, and it's fine. Stating something as fact when it is an unknown is a bit narrow minded thinking.

As opposed to your gratuitous story time based on nothing? I'll take brevity every time.

Agreed.....................I think this takes WR in the first off the table now.

I know a lot of you guys are going to hate it, but it is looking more and more like we are going oline in the first.

Should be several really good oline guys available at 19.............I think that is the way this thing is going to play out.
Wouldn't be against o-line in the 1st or 2nd. I don't believe we are set in any pathway at the moment. We could go plenty of ways with 19.

Name me someone who is more over paid, drops more passes, gets less seperation, and worries more about his catches than wins, than Dez.
1. You’re paid what you can negotiate this is America my man.
2. How many did he drop last year? And can we forgive them as an aberration considering he easily has more game winning plays?
3. Witten.
4. I disagree. It’s not about stats it’s about being aggressive. Romo would discuss football bc he’s passionate like dez and they’d be in the same page. When dez is on the sidelines getting everyone fired up and they’re all rkg clappers it just makes him look out of place. Bc our stadium has an Office Depot vibe.

Dez is a relic. A guy who actually loves the sport, and wants to ball

It appears that Dez, Hurns, and Thompson are all capable of playing either outside or in the slot. Williams or Brown can play outside and Switzer is dedicated to the slot. I can see Dez, Hurns, and Thompson playing together and lining them up at different positions throughout the game or to get favorable matchups.

I would think Beasley is the most likely candidate to be traded. You now have several candidates that can play the slot and he probably has the most tradeable contract.

disagree. You WANT as many smurfs as possible to rotate in an out and to play multiple packages in the slot...rub routes etc..just look at the Pats. They been making a living doing that. Odd man out is twill AND his salary , but we need a trade partner. Dez may even be traded....SOMETHING is in the works.

Not a big fan of this deal, but I'll feel better about it if Hurns is an addition and not a replacement.
Look at him as an upgrade over Butler, and more competition to Dez and TWill. Competition has to be a good thing.....

2-years and $12 million is an awful lot to pay to upgrade over Brice Butler. Thompson's $2.5 million is even quite a bit more than what they paid for Butler.

Extra cap space isn't needed to re-sign Martin and Lawrence. They're already on the books at higher caps than a 1st year extension. Re-signing them would SAVE cap space, not cost more.

Sure it isnt. Thats why they had to restructure Frederick already. Because they had soo much cap space.

Where you getting 2.5? It costs about that for just the first rounder.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cap/

When you calculate the top 51 salaries, none of the rookie salaries will actually count against the CAP during the summer because ALL of the base salaries will be the rookie minimum. On a 90 man roster, all of the rookie salaries won't count. So, the only CAP room you need to sign the rookies is the CAP room needed to cover the prorated 2018 portion of the rookie signing bonuses.

Based on the rookie salary scale, the Cowboys will need a little under $3,012,000 to cover the cost of the rookie signing bonuses - including all the signing bonuses for undrafted rookies, which is about $92,000 of the $3,012,000 they need. By cutting Orlando Scandrick, and making him a designated June 1st cut, his entire scheduled $3,000,000 2018 salary will come off the books on June 1st. That means the Cowboys only need a little under $12,000 in CAP space to sign all the rookies. The $480K apiece (total $4,800,000 for 10 draft picks) won't count against the CAP during the summer. Neither will the $480K salaries for the 15-20 undrafted players the Cowboys sign in the Spring. Only the top 51 salaries count. But ALL the bonus money allocated to 2018 counts - including bonus money for past players, and players who get cut during the pre-season.

Now, when it comes time to cut down to 53 players, the entire salaries of all the rookies WILL count. But by that time, the Cowboys will have cut the higher salaried players, and their numbers will be removed from the CAP, and many of those rookies will also be cut. At that point, the Cowboys also need about $1.2M to cover the Practice Squad salaries for 10 players, which are about $120K each. That is in addition to the salaries of the 53 players who make the team, plus any players put on injured reserve. The Cowboys like to keep about $2-3M in CAP space to make more moves during the season as players get injured.

So, that is why the Cowboys only need about $3M to cover the rookie contracts during the summer.
